    Again a big pleasure listening and watching your shows especially all the Stones album reviews.
    Now it's really hard for me to make a ranking for these 90s studio outputs because I have different special memories to the times of its releases. At the Voodoo Lounge era I was in the US in 1994 to see them in Cincinnati, River Front stadium, fantastic experience I will always remember (later in 1995 2 more shows in Germany) and of course a great album. Agreed as well there are maybe a couple of songs too many on it.
    Bridges album...some real Stones top highlights like Anybody seen my baby and of course Out of Control which I love both the studio and the live version.
    Generally the Bridges album is a bit too experimental in terms of modern sound effects like Might as well get juiced and Gun Face and Low Down ...not really my kind of...but a pretty brilliant and loud production.
    And then in 2005 at the time of the Bigger Bang release I was in the States again (FL). Yes, fully agree there are way too many (average) songs on it...they should have left out the last 3 tracks... cat dragged in/driving too fast ...interesting title but boring ... and finally the KR number Infamy which is always an early breakup when playing this album.
    And Blue and Lonesome ranks among the last positions of all Stones records in general. Got it only to complete my Stones collection. Although they are considered as an original blues band I can t get warm with this pure blues album. Maybe 2-3 good songs for my pov.
    But anyway, it's left up to everyones own choice to like what's desired 😉.
    Nevertheless I fully enjoyed again your reviews on Stones records. Of course all the special editions and singles you have introduced as well.
    Best regards from the other side of the ocean 😉🤘🏼,
    Tommy (Skin'N'Bones)

      Thanks so much Tommy - really appreciate your kind words and I love your assessments of the albums and your personal history. We're very much in agreement. I love your phrasing regarding Blue and Lonesome. I agree. I really like it, when I listen to it, but I rarely listened to it the year it came out and virtually never since. You said it...."I can't get warm with this pure blues album"....yea - very well said. Thanks so much again.

    Alan, this is my Hackney check-in. Saw the announcement. Not much to it. Video premier for the first single. I actually liked it. The highlight was when Keith told Mick that Mick had never been to church 🤣😂 when Mick was talking about do a gospel number on the new album. They did mention in the after announcement interviews that they were looking forward to playing some of the songs live. Of course, checked out the merchandise. Will definitely get the Blu-Ray combo. After that fun, went and had oral surgery. Having some pain pill fun. It's hell in my mouth as I get older🤣😬😂 What did you think??

    i get what you’re saying about Love is Strong not sounding like a hit single but i think at that time still in grunge period it kinda made sense. i always liked it. i’m not a big Stones fan but remember buying the cassingle at the time. i have 40 Licks and wish they didn’t include those new tracks. To me those spots could've been used for other classic tunes like Heartbreaker.

    I prefer album legnth albums (35-45 min.)
    Filling a cd basically makes it a double album, encourages the inclusion too much filler.
    Steel Wheels is my fave, especially sentimental to me, as it was the first album (cd) by the Stones I bought.
    Plus the Steel Wheels Tour was my first and only Stones concert, Living Colour was the opening act.

      @@jasonpp1973 I’m so with you. 40 minutes or so is the perfect album length. But CDs were so expensive they filled them up. Steel wheels was a fantastic return. And great tour to see them on. Incredible concert. I saw three nights at Shea. Still remember it. Amazing.

    Don't get angry with me.... Just hearing that the Dream Weaver, Gary Wright has passed. Every day someone seems to be crossing over the big guitar in the sky. Also the Smash Mouth singer died today. I have always enjoyed the No Security album. I enjoyed that your as well. I got to see it in Memphis.

      No way - Gary Wright just died.....damn... Love Dream Weaver and some of the old Spooky Tooth. You're right David - getting scary - gonna become like a constant death watch...hopefully not. I saw the No Security tour in Las Vegas - met my best friend there. Probably the best Stones show I ever saw - at least the most fun - but amazing set list...not quite captured on the live album because that came out first. What a tour though. Glad you saw it in Memphis. Some deep cuts played live on that tour.

    I agree that Jagger's voice begins to grate in later years. I have exactly the same feeling about 'Laugh, I Nearly Died', that it has a lot of potential, but Jagger's overbearing vocal kills it.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love your description. Overbearing vocal. I don’t hear many other Stones fans talk about this. But it’s so apparent to me and it is grating I say don’t sing so much. Just sing the song and make your vocals more in the mix with the band and less prominent.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. Take the 10 best songs and it's a classic album. I still really like it, but too long. The funny thing is no one seems to be able to agree on which songs to take off. We all have our own ears...so maybe Mick was onto something with all these extra songs that typically wouldn't have made the cut if it was vinyl, instead of the extended CD time.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching and commenting - really appreciate it. As per my videos, I'm a physical media guy. Been actively buying records / cds - since 1973. I'm lucky that I live on long island, ny where there are many record stores. All my life, I regularly do the rounds and go to the stores. In addition, I love flea markets (my town has a fun one) as well as thrift stores (a couple of those where I live as well). Finding records and cds is never a problem - the problem is finding too many for too cheap...lol. Of course there's always Amazon and other sites as well - that I also buy from on occasion. When I was younger NYC was the mecca for bootlegs - no longer - nothing really in manhattan anymore for years. I also go to record / cd shows regularly. Collector type stuff like bootlegs show up there alot and at flea markets when I'm really lucky (and estate yard sales too). Hope that helps.

    Listening to your commentary on the latter day Rolling Stones albums reminds me why the band has remained number 1 with me ever since I discovered it before my age reached double digits. In this video, you do a really great job covering albums that I think are among the band’s least exciting releases. And yet, I hear plenty of good, if not great, songs on “Steel Wheels” (my #1 choice, with “Almost Hear You Sigh” being one of the most fabulous least- known songs and “Can’t Be Seen” and “Slipping Away” being among my favorite Keith-sung numbers. “Terrifying” has a wonderfully unusual groove - IMHO), “Voodoo Lounge” (at #2 for me, with “Blinded By Rainbows” and “Out of Tears” being what I believe are two of the finest ballads The Stones have ever done. Plus, there’s no shortage of solid rockers on the LP.), and “Bridges
    to Babylon” (in my #3 spot, with my personal favorites being “Saint of Me,” “Always Suffering” and “Already Over Me.”). I can’t remember the last time I listened to “A Bigger Bang,” which, as you said, has no real standouts among its 16 tracks. It does have what I consider to be The Stones most contradictory song: “Streets of Love.” It matches up a beautiful melody with lyrics that are so bad it’s embarrassing. I know that you also pointed out how awful the lyrics are. As for “Blue & Lonesome,” I think it is nearly impossible to compare the LP with other Stones albums because everything on it is “all blues.” Certainly, it can be ranked based on the frequency with which one listens to it. As The Stones is arguably one of the most versatile rock ‘n’ roll bands, (IMHO no other band comes close), the band’s records almost always have something enjoyable for fans of hard rock, ballads, R & B, funk, reggae, country and even a bit of experimental music. So, unless one is heavily into the Blues, “Blue & Lonesome” is an album of limited appeal. For me, it’s a great way to get my blues fix when my mood calls for one - every now and then. Prior to hearing the album, I never appreciated how awesome Mick Jagger is on harmonica! Beyond the five albums you highlighted in the video, I enjoyed your takes on “Flashpoint,” “Stripped,” “Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus,” and “Forty Licks.” Thanks for putting so very much into yet another episode of your excellent show. You really, really know your stuff!

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much. I fully agree that one aspect that makes The Rolling Stones the greatest rock and roll band is their diversity. They truly do write and play in multiple styles (hard rock, beautiful balland, country, country rock, soul, funk, dance, r&b) yet it always comes through this Rolling Stones prism so it still sounds like the Stones, and it's genuine, not just a pastiche. Park of the reason I can always listen to The Stones, because you never get bored. I also love that many of your highlighted songs are ballads. I feel the same. I'm a sucker for these fantastic Stones ballads. I actually think the Stones don't get credited enough for their legacy of incredible ballads, but that's partially due to their unwillingness to ever play more than 2 in a live show.

      @@TheAlanRosenbergShowYou have laid it all out beautifully with regard to how The Rolling Stones is the band that masters virtually all music styles but always presents them through the prism that reveals uncontrived music distinguished by the group’s incredible DNA.

    The Rolling Stones catalog in the 90's and beyond is really spotty. Not a big fan of their new material during that period but they did have some great songs. You Got Me Rocking and Anybody Seen My Baby are standout tracks for me. I totally agree with Out Of Control, it's best when played live. I saw several No Security shows and the set list and shows were the best of that period. Definitely Love Is Strong is arguably the weakest single ever released ( I believe it was a holdover from Keith Richards Main Offender sessions). I do like Rough Justice but not that album in general. The Rolling Stones at that time were a must see live act and not the album driven band of the past. People just wanted the hits and you can tell by all the live albums they released during the 90's and beyond. I think Living In A Ghost Town is the best song they have released in years. Let's hope the new album can produce the same results.

    Good Stone albums and the 90s is an oxymoron. Respected Pitchfork listed their top 150 of the 90s and the Stones aint' on it. Understandably voodoo Lounge and A Bigger Bang are pretty mediocre. The Stones were on top in the 60s and 70s with a string of masterpieces. I love Between The Buttons.
