@@peterjones6322some manufacturers have taken a liking to installing hardware and then disabling it in the software, are you sure this is not what's happening here?
Ford irritates the life out of me. I've been a ford driver most of my life and they should have slid into the EV market with an electric fiesta or focus and absolutely won the market but instead they took too long and brought out their version of an id4 that costs more than an id4. I managed to get hands on this a week ago at a ford event and that whole storage console in the middle feels so flimsy, I can't accept that on a £50k car. Ford needs to seriously sort themselves out, get their factory in Germany back online and make small - mid sized EV hatchbacks for the European market.
And that stupid, stupid, stupid battery powered suv they call a mustang? Ford has become a laughing stock. I'll stick with good old Detroit steel. Gonna buy an old 'stang, late 60s, and get it running for my kid. We can work on it together. She needs to know what real driving is about so she doesn't grow into another lazy EV idiot.
Now, you might be surprised to hear that I'm not usually a Ford fan. In fact, I've never owned a Ford car before (although I have had a Ford van). But when I saw the Ford Explorer Premium in Arctic blue at the dealership, I couldn't resist! I've decided to go all out with some cool upgrades. First, I opted for the Arctic blue color upgrade for £800. I mean, who doesn't want a car that stands out from the crowd, right? And then, I couldn't resist adding the driver assistance package for £1800. Safety first, you know! Plus, it's always nice to have a little extra help on the road. Now, here's the funny part - the heat pump. Apparently, it's not a standard feature on the Explorer Premium (just like the Skoda Enyaq). So, I decided to go for it and added the heat pump upgrade for £1050. Who knew staying warm could be so expensive? In total, my upgrades cost me £3650. But you know what? I'm so excited about this car that I don't even mind. Plus, it's a great investment considering how much I used to spend on diesel every month. Goodbye, £400 monthly diesel bills! I can't wait to pick up my new Explorer Premium and hit the road as an EV convert. It's amazing how much money we can save by switching to electric vehicles, isn't it? Anyway, I just wanted to share my car journey with you. I hope you found it as amusing as I did!
4:45 That's smart! If someone wants to break into your car, your expensive possessions will be behind the giant touchscreen. So all they have to do is break that expensive screen to get to you expensive possessions... smart, yes..
I love how everyone is asking for a fuel efficient / electric focus hatchback or fiesta that just works reliably. And ford comes with yet another high priced mega suv that misses all the marks.
She was taller than this. This is tiny. Plus it's cramped on inside. They won't make a spacious ev. It might hurt sales of those unreliable expedition or f 150 ecoboost
That would be great but they wouldn't be profitable unfortunately. Just the base cost of the batteries and electronics along with the labor (first world country labor costs at least) just prices the equipment itself out of the economy sized bracket. There is always the used car market though, plenty of perfectly fine used EVs for low prices out there, just charge them with care and they will last!

This Explorer looks to be a very good EV. Beautiful colour, practical interior and adaptive screen. Looking forward to a review of the standard version by Nicola. Let's hope Ford will add a smaller version (Focus/Puma size) in the near future as well.
A fun review, thank you. I used to have a small Ford dealership so I am well disposed to the brand. This is a pretty ordinary car at completely too high a price.
If you want an ID4 that is slightly more agile and can cope with a 50l smaller boot, it sounds like this would be great. I am a big fan of these cars by the way. The Ford specific stuff inside looks good too. Confess I'm not a fan of the styling outside hut that's a personal thing. Great review Nicola, you keep it simple, the centre console will store you handbag and wine on your way to the party, 😂, this is a nice Suv as they go nowadays, i would still prefer a RWD saloon over an SUV, here in Canada even with the extreme winters i don not need AWD in the winter, i just buy good snow tires and have never really had any issues over 45 years of driving , all these new vehicles ICE or BEV have traction control to help you in adverse conditions, Long range battery and the base powertrain is all I'd want so i could still get maximum range, I am still partial to the I.D. 3 and 4, having driven them both here, they have the best value for the price, don't want FWD, just me, Ford's track record here in N.A. has been sketchy although the Mach-E has done well its just our winters are extreme here ,regularly -25 celsius plus windchill so it really reduces range on your EV, as much in the extremes as 40% from a full charge, even if your only driving 60 miles/daily ,so 300 miles of true range turns out to be 180 miles , a tough call to make 👍

I think you guys get a significantly smaller version of the ford than what North America gets. This thing looks like a slightly different Evoc? 🤷🏻♂️ If you needed a Ford of this size, it’s not too bad.. Good review! 👍🏻
What is really needed in cars like these is a low power and cost Four wheel drive version for daily use in countries with mountains, snow, ice etc. and not just crazy fast range toppers.
I sat in one the other day and the rear seats are very low as you can see at 8:10 so for me at 185/6'1 it feels like I'm sitting in the back of our little Smart Forfour!
At least here in Finland you can get the equivalent of an ID.4 GTX for about 11 000 € less than the actual ID.4 GTX. The base version is cheaper as well, but Ford seems to have wanted to throw you the performance model on the cheap. Seems decent, but also somewhat uninspiring. Not a bad buy though, except that I so badly associate that badge with early 90's Escorts
What's the selling point? I have just configured the "same" model as ID.4 and Explorer EV. For ID.4 I got about 63000EUR price tag in Hungary, but the same Ford Explore will be around 53000EUR. Now that is a difference. And the other bigger selling point: most of these new cars are purchased for leasing by SMBs. And for them the fleet leasing of a Ford will be much cheaper (on the long range) compared to ID.4.
There is a cost to everything and if you design and build cars with no return for all that is involved in production making nothing to lose money per vehicles as can you won’t be around for long.
I love Ford names. They have to bring back the Capri (=goat), and can we have the Cortina back (=kettle), and even the Focus (=fireplace). I should point out that the word Mustang referred to an out-of-control cow before it was used for a horse. Etymology matters!
Fact corrections: Heat pump is not standard but is available as a £1000 option. The 79kW battery is only available on the AWD - all other launched RWD get a 77kW battery.
I like it reminds me of American cars from the early 90s. A lovely round edges and feels quite americana but with a more teamed European styling I like it.
Great review from Nicola, sadly this doesn’t do anything for me. It looks dated already, especially when comparing to something like Peugeot, which are making some really stunning cars of late.
There's a lot to like, but… I wish it retained the dial through the bottom of the touchscreen, like in the Mach-E. As for ladies' handbags, my wife really likes the purse bin in the central console of our Ioniq 5. And you don't have to remove trays and cupholders to use it! I sure wish we had those European "foldable" trailer hitches on this side of the pond! I wouldn't be happy without 1-pedal driving. Ford needs to change that. I do wish I could've been a fly in the cabin with you on that scenic drive.
I like it, if i was in the market for an expensive crossover, it would be this or the enyak. But i really want a normal car. Fiesta or Focus ev please ford, its what most people in the uk need. Please no more suvs 🙏 i know people want them and fair enough if you have the space and money, i guess. I just personally dont want an unnecessarily big car, its amazing what you can fit in a small hatchback, and still have an easy time parking and being able to open the doors.
Needs to see it in RHD on our roads . Don’t understand why a lower power more efficient 4wd cant be made as it affects the insurance costs and its just the traction thats wanted not 0-60 in this type of car .
This one will be a success. I have ordered, and I know of many others who have too. In Norway, electric cars are quite common and almost everyone only buys electric cars. Beautiful car!
I can't get my head around Ford. They bring out a decent ev car and then price it out of the market for the majority of people. The Chinese cars are as good if not better and more keenly priced. Unless Ford and other European companies start to give the public what they want, then I can only see them going bancrupt.
It’s 20 inches shorter than the gas one in the US, and no third row? The explorer is a full to mid size suv here, it would surprise me if they don’t bring it to the US.
Ford used to be the de facto car brand in the UK. Every hire car was categorised as a Sierra, Escort or Fiesta size regardless of brand. Watching an old home video of a car journey in the late 80s, every 8 out of 10 vehicles were Fords, now you’re lucky to see 1 out of 10. Which incidentally isn’t what I’d rate the look of this, but I’d agree with another poster’s 6/10. The 2011 Range Rover Evoque still looks more modern and stylish than this.
You are very funny and likeable, and your review is bang on. It will be interesting to see Ford and GM go head to head Stateside when they release the US Explorer. I Personally prefer the Chevy Equinox for design and value.
Hmmm, I think there are better similar EV models out there for less expensive. As someone who’s owned Fords for more years than I care to mention I really do think they’ve lost their way. It’s amusing that they’ve tied in with VW when just when there quality has slipped with awful operating systems.
I’m confused why the called it the explorer since they plan on selling it everywhere in Europe while still selling the big American explorer in some places like Norway
@@garydavis1528 There have been many articles about different versions of the same electric/ICE car, e.g. BMW. The used price of an ICE version held up well after 3 years, the EV version crashed.
So welcome to 4-Star EuroNCAP rating if they go ahead with their threat for cars with touchscreen only even if VW gets all huffy about it. Interesting looking car though and enjoyed your review Nic.
Can you turn off the interior sensors when you leave the car because you can’t on the Mustang Mach-E after 2-years of ownership and visits to the Ford garage - known software problem apparently? Please test and report back as this would be a deal breaker for me.
So if it’s using VW’s MEB platform motors and battery then why the hell as it took Ford 12 months to bring this car to market. And were is the affordable Ford Ev. At that price you can buy a car with a better badge. For me they should have started with the electric puma to compete with the Volvo EX30 , KIA EV3 , CUPRA BORN etc.
The battery system wasn’t good enough or compliant with new regulations for Ford so Ford had it developed and waited a year for it to become so before launch it. Not difficult to know or understand.
@@danielstefanovic2604 Vw batteries 2023 and earlier didn’t comply with new Eu regulations so Ford waited until new batteries that do comply with latest laws and regulations before build and use them.

Quite like the look of that , might be something to look at if we downsize from our enyaq in the future .
Nicola loved to explore, New places she’d never seen before. With a map in her hand, She’d travel the land, And always come back wanting more.
Love the screen location option. I don't want to hear any complaints. Oh! You want the screen in landscape too?
Excited for the Ford Explorer Electric!
Still blows my mind that the UK uses MPH and not KPH while simultaneously using metric for other measurements.
Doesnt Ford also provide better warranties?
Doesnt ford also provide better warranties?
Thanks for the review. The pricing seems bonkers. You would have to be a real Ford fan, in my mind.
There is a cost to everything and if you design and build cars with no return for all that is involved in production making nothing to lose money per vehicles as can you won’t be around for long.
Good fresh and clean look especially not a split headlight like others 👌
I love Ford names. They have to bring back the Capri (=goat), and can we have the Cortina back (=kettle), and even the Focus (=fireplace). I should point out that the word Mustang referred to an out-of-control cow before it was used for a horse. Etymology matters!
Fact corrections: Heat pump is not standard but is available as a £1000 option.
The 79kW battery is only available on the AWD - all other launched RWD get a 77kW battery.
Change your records??? Nice we have options for vinyl now!
The size of the screen in a modern car is inversely proportional to how much I want to buy the car.
A Ford for Ford fans even though its a Volkswagen.
I just love how happy 😊 the car looks lol
I enjoyed watching the video review, better looking than the Volkswagen ID.4
Your rear space looks nice 👍🏾.
Is the smaller battery LFP on this one?
This presenter is quite engaging! Subscribed!
Will it be sold worldwide or just in Europe?
EV Galaxy is what is needed.... But no ford come out with a SUV🤦🏻
Plus One for the EV "Galaxy"
Plus One for an EV "Galaxy"
Well, if you have lane keep and collision avoidance then I suppose you can spend more time looking down at the screen to find what you want or need.
You said that the heat pump comes as standard and it does not in the uk it is optional extra at £1000 🤔
VW seats, steering (besides buttons) look cupra too. I think it looks good. Pricing seems better than VW. Great screen option.
Was going to get the Mustang Mach E but I think I'm now sold on this
I was on the list for this then cancelled because of the delay and got an Ariya. Definitely made the right call.
The look of the rear light is much like those of Renault kardian
where is this filming location? I need to know. The view is stunning.
I think she said that she’s in Slovenia. Or did you mean where in Slovenia?
I can't get my head around Ford. They bring out a decent ev car and then price it out of the market for the majority of people.
The Chinese cars are as good if not better and more keenly priced. Unless Ford and other European companies start to give the public what they want, then I can only see them going bancrupt.
Seems to be a ridiculous amount of time for them to take to not really build much themselves and produce such a bang average car
Evening Nicola
Wish they would bring it to the US.
😮 this ford is not for the US ?
You are very funny and likeable, and your review is bang on. It will be interesting to see Ford and GM go head to head Stateside when they release the US Explorer. I Personally prefer the Chevy Equinox for design and value.
Heads up display?
Would be nice with a bit more information. 😊
Cheers Nicola and the team
Hmmm, I think there are better similar EV models out there for less expensive. As someone who’s owned Fords for more years than I care to mention I really do think they’ve lost their way. It’s amusing that they’ve tied in with VW when just when there quality has slipped with awful operating systems.
Nailed it: a Ford for Ford fans.
3yr warranty, come on Ford get real.
50% more than my MB EQS.....
update ford are charging for the heatpump its not standard equipment as suggested in the video in the uk
I’m confused why the called it the explorer since they plan on selling it everywhere in Europe while still selling the big American explorer in some places like Norway
From £46k eh? They’ll be £15k in a few years time. 👍
As will a combustion car.
Ahhh!!!!!
Its using different batteries, Ford waited to use cheaper lfp batteries instead.
@@danielstefanovic2604 Vw batteries 2023 and earlier didn’t comply with new Eu regulations so Ford waited until new batteries that do comply with latest laws and regulations before build and use them.
