#landrover #lr3 - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Congratulations Tommy and Morgan on the marriage!
I have a 2005 LR3 SE with 165k and have never had any issues. I also have a 2010 LR4 with 194k that has also been solid. Both are on the original air suspension. I bought them both used, but I’ve put over 100k on each of them. My daughter drives the LR3 and regularly commutes between Littleton and Boulder (45 miles each way), and my wife and I load up the LR4 and drive up to the mountains almost every weekend. We just took it on a 3k road trip to visit family in Galveston and it never broke a sweat cruising at 85+ for hours on end. I do take care of both of these vehicles and stay on top of regular maintenance, but so far they have been as reliable as anything else I’ve ever driven.
What's the V8 like in the LR4? Going to be selling my FJ Cruiser and was thinking an LR4 2010-2012.
@@DorDeKrey I definitely like the 5.0 in the LR4 better than the 4.4 in the LR3. It never feels like it’s working very hard, even at altitude. The extra 75 hp makes a huge difference. I heard horror stories about bad timing chain tensioners so I put some $ away to have the timing chains done, but I’ve had the vehicle for 8 years and have driven over 110k and I’m still waiting to spend it. Even with 190k on the odometer, if the chain goes tomorrow I’d fix it. Everything else still works great. Even the seats look new. When the EAS eventually fails I’ll probably convert to coils just because all of the hoses and plastic bits are almost 15 years old and I don’t want to be chasing little issues. Same with the LR3.
Congratulations Tommy on the marriage. I pray for a long, happy and fruitful marriage for you. Love all the content keep up the great work.
Thanks so much
Tommy doing his rant while casually, and comfortably, driving his LR3 in Moab with the horizon in the background changing angles is such an elegant flex. 😂
I've been a Land Rover owner for almost 30 yrs, and I bought my current '06 RRS brand new back in late '05 and it's still going strong after 185k miles. But having said that, I also bought my first Toyota truck this past fall and I hope to have many many years and smiles to explore the outdoors with it. And congrats on the marriage!
Congrats 🎉 on the marriage.
Video should be titled, "Let me show you how to write off a honey moon as a business expense." I'm not hating. I love it. This is why its important to start your own business.
Smart couple 😊
F J B😮
Hahaha. Yes.
Absolutely brilliant
My wife is spending this week at her company’s home office in NYC. (She’s one of three partners.) The trip was scheduled to coincide with the Trek Long Island convention.
Bought my LR3 almost 3 years ago for a winter beater. I love it so much that it's now my daily. It's great for camping/overlanding, too. The back seats fold flat so i can sleep in the back, and I like that you can leave the sunroof open at night for fresh air without insects coming by closing the screen. 180k and still smooth as silk!
Thanks again for the recommendation!
My story is exactly the same…. V8 LR3….bulletproof. So smooth…
Love the Land Rover coverage! I purchased a 2013 LR4 after watching your old LR3 videos.
I've had it for 3 1/2 years and have never thrown a check engine light. I have only done all the fluids, tires and due to paranoia, the water pump/coolant crossover pipes. 120k miles and going strong!
Can you go over the differences between the LR3 and LR4? I am interested in an LR4 but, idk what to look for.
The secret to Land Rover ownership is to keep a couple of minor things broken. When you try to make it perfect it will have a total hissy fit and find new ways of pissing you off. Least that's what nearly 30 years of ownership has taught me 😂
Wife? Well congratulations
Whoa whoa whoa... Wife?! Congrats brother
The nice thing about the 4.0L Ford Cologne V6 is they are fairly understressed and reliable. The SOHC version introduced in 1997 in the Explorer did have issues with the timing chain cassettes, but an improved version was introduced in 2002. As long as you do regular oil changes, and replace the chain tensioners (which just bolt in a plug from outside the engine) as soon as you hear any startup rattle, they can go for hundreds of thousands of miles.
GR8 post,
Thx for the info 😊
So Morgan, are you tired of hearing all this yet? 😊
Congratulations Tommy and Morgan
I absolutely love my 2006 LR3. Extremely capable off-road, very comfortable interior, excellent driving position, reliable, and with the seats laying down flat for camping, it is extremely versatile. It's set up exactly how I like it and don't see myself selling it any time soon. Can't say enough good things about my ownership experience.
Tommy, drive what you wanna drive and be happy. Congratulations, Morgan, Tommy is a good guy . . . just get used to the constant car talk ;)
I have owned my '05 LR3 SE V8 with 140k miles for more than 4 years and everything works including the air suspension (fronts replaced @ 104kmi). Where I run roughly three 1k-1.5k mi Overland trips through Baja Mexico each year. This is my sixth LR ('91 Rover Classic, '62 Series IIa 88, two '98 Discovery and '16 Discovery Sport) and this LR3 is "The Best 4x4 By Far".
As long as you have Rory's phone number you are golden in Moab.
I've had two LR3 and now LR4 for the last 19 years. No better all around truck out there. From the off road abilities to the fold completely flat seats, it does EVERYTHING well.
We have an 06, and what we basically figured out was even with repairs it was still cheaper than any Toyota product would be. But it’s been pretty reliable for the amount of abuse we put it through off road
Great review and so true! I bought my 2006 LR3 SE V8 new in 2007, and now I’m at over 240,000 miles. It’s on original air struts too. Normal maintenance will make it last. Congratulations on your marriage!
Wife? Congratulations! There should have been an announcement!
I was getting worried about him. Congratulations.
@@theirthereandtheyre2947why worried?
Was mentioned before in one of the videos. Why should he announce it? Not our business.
Respect their privacy, maybe she doesn't want to be in front of a camera
@@theirthereandtheyre2947haha. Congrats Tommy!
I had a 06 LR3, was our family car. We absolutely loved it. It handled everything with class.
Love my LR4. Done 50k miles and countless off-road trips and wouldn’t want to be driving anything else. Plus, it’s hard to beat the reactions you get off-roading a Land Rover - “what are you doing out here??” “Wow that thing can do this??” 😂
Have to agree Tommy, I have an 09 Range Rover Sport built on the same platform as the LR3 with 4.4 V8 engine. It is an excellent vehicle! Capable off road, luxury cruiser on the freeway, comfortable, cooler in the center console, decent gas mileage and extremely reliable.
I have the Discovery 3 V8 with 267,000 km and it is awesome. It easily tows my 3 tonne off road RV around Australia. Great to see your passion for such an overlooked beast.
2006 LR3 206k, runs perfect, performs amazingly
Ayyy congrats on the marriage! Also LR3 rock, keep rolling!
Absolutely need more videos promoting the LR3.. My friend has the same year LR3, I thought his was a unicorn as it has never broke down in almost a 100k on the mileage clock. I wonder if new Rovers, folks are not staying on top of the maintence, hence the perception of unreliability.
Its just BS passed down from early Rovers. Everyone who says how unreliable they are have never owned one or even sat in one before. They're just repeating what someone said 20 yrs ago. My 05 has 285k and still going strong.
I have a 2005 LR3 and it is such a phenomenal car. It isn't perfect, and at 150k miles needed some work, but does everything so well. It was very thoughtfully designed. It is smooth, comfortable and has enough power with the 4.4. I can't imagine a better vehicle for the money or even double the money. They are also more reliable than the LR4 due to the bad timing chains in the LR4 engines.
As far as cost for the Defender, it is more expensive, but not too far off from jeeps. The Rubicon is $50k+ A lightly used defender with CPO warranty would be about the same, or the defender 110 without too many options is in the 70ish range, a good a mount more, but you get more. I think I'd get a defender over the discovery 5, although the disco 5 is a good option too.
I have a red 08' LR3 that sitting at about 150k miles. Has stood up well to the heavy New England snow and off road trails. My favorite part is how capable and drama free it is off road while still being able to cruse on the interstate without the ride of a solid axle and still be a reliable vehicle tha'ts not overly expensive to fix by myself.
My 2004 D2 TD5, it was a reliable vehicle, had it for 15 years, the airbags lasted on mine also.
👌 You should vinyl-wrap the top in white. It’ll cover the clear coat issues and keep it cooler, maybe.
We bought a LR3 for $3,000 and drove it from California to the bottom of Argentina, has over 220,000 miles on it now!
Moab in the ‘90’s and early 2000’s was chock full of Discoveries, not as many, but a visible amount of Defenders representing Land Rover. Wrangler TJ’s and YJ’s but really the only other SUC style 4wd’s were cherokees and Land Cruisers. It’s weird to me to see so few Land Rovers in the backcountry but it kind of shows the direction the brand went and how many got burned with more modern versions.
I just hit 400,000kms on my LR3, it still goes into the bush! Comes back out everytime
Congratulations Tommy and Morgan!! 🎉🎉🎉
I have an LR3 and a GX460. Its not even close how much better the LR3 is, but the LR3 has been with the mechanic a month now because they can't figure out why the ac doesn't work in the rear.
I'd love one, especially for 4K! And congratulations on your marriage!
Dude she married you even after she found out you bought a Land Rover😂? Congrats Tommy, she's a keeper!!!
Congratulations Tommy! Wishing you and your wife many happy and healthy years together!
From the glimpse through the wind shield, you hit way above your class young man! Congratulations!!!
Congrats on the wedding! Also looks like Mike in the Death star from Dirtbilly Deluxe on that recovery at 10:20
Congrats to the newlyweds! I too love the LR3, not just a great workhorse but comfy and looks good no matter where ya go!
Love the LR3 and 4. Was looking for a 4 at a good price, and will keep looking. Congratulations on your nuptials, many happy years to you both!
Congratulations 🎉 Tommy and Morgan! Wishing you both a long and happy life together!
Congrats Tommy and Morgan! Glad the LR3 carried you through safe, sound, and reliably.
I have a 2013 LR4 V8 with 105K miles on it almost had it for 3 years , it is a great vehicle , no major issues seen , the air suspension is no joke it is great . Ride is well worth it . Just got to keep up with maintenance and a eye on the timing chains and you are fine . Timing chains can be seen through oil filler cap. Did have a small oil leak on valve cover but no biggie. Sometimes I see 20MPG on highway. Great family vehicle as well.
I’ve a Discovery Sport. I mean sure, it’s had a new dpf since I had it, and it’s spat it’s coolant everywhere - but both of those were expensive symptoms of a lazy previous owner. Now I’ve maintained it properly, it is incredible. It gets me out of mud on the farms, it does the school run, I can play in the sand on the beach… and it’s stunning. I could have bought a Toyota sure, but I love my Land Rover and I don’t know I’d say that about a ‘yota. Next plans for it include an overland trip to Norway!
My buddy last week took his Disco 2 for a 335 mile drive into the woods and back on one tank of gas. Color me impressed x2.
Still pulling out hundreds of stuck Jeeps, Toyotas and all kinds of other cars a year with my 25 year old Land Rover.
Congratulations Tommy and Morgan. Enjoy your time together.
The air suspension is key to a comfortable off roading experience.
I'd do my best to clean old mud and grit out of the air bag "fold" to keep them lasting as long as possible.
Congratulations Tommy & Morgan!
Enjoyed the video.
congratulations Tommy ♥️
In the sea of Toyotas it's nice to see a change. I off-road my 23 Nissan Titan pro4x and like being the black sheep 😎
Very good review. It shows that you don't have to spend a ton of money to have a very capable vehicle for on road and off road. 8 grand is a heck of a price to have a 70,000 mile+/- vehicle that performs so well. Congratulations on your life together.
Congratulations! Happy for you guys!
So refreshing to hear positive comments on land drovers
Congratulations Tommy!!! Excellent video, i would say you got a good rig for sure 😁
Congrats, Tommy I wish you both a good happy life!
Love the head out the window to make your point at 1:06 Tommy! To car lovers in general though - we should all hold the manufacturers to a high standard when it comes to building, improving and fixing their vehicles, but criticizing other car loves for their preferences is asinine. I've driven some of the 'best' and 'worst' brands but I love driving regardless. The more you get to know a vehicle and its quirks, the more it grows on you.
Great video Tommy, Nice to meet Morgan "just a little" I was interested to see if it would be worthwhile to bring the LR4 to Moab, you more than answered the question. BTW 5,000 plus miles since I purchased it, we had an initial shop visit and then one follow up after a Sedona run, probably 30 minor item, considering it had been parked for years I do not think that is bad. The shop cleared all of the discrepancies and we are about to head out to Sedona again. Thanks for all you do.
Congratulations on the marriage. Thats awesome. Enjoyed the video!
LR4 owner here, and I concur. Bought mine for $2K from Copart, repaired all of it with $3K in parts and tools. Added 18" rims and larger K02s and that was 27K mostly-trouble-free miles ago.
I had a 98 with solid axles and I put a 100,000 miles on it with no major issues!!! I bought it with a 120k !! I still miss that rig !!!! 😢
Thank you Tommy i love the land rovers.
I have had Jeeps from YJ to JL. Currently have a JLU Rubicon. I’ve also had LR Discos from D1 to D5. Currently I have a D5 diesel. They are both awesome vehicles. With the right to repair movement I can flash the JL and LR electronics. The LR service website is more challenging to navigate. The Stellantis website is top notch. If you service the vehicles more frequently than the manufacturers recommend, the vehicles will last a long time. Arguably most of the cohort that buys LR products are not going to use the rig in Moab
Nice and suitable license plate for Land Rover, Tommy, - "TOW PLS" 😂😂😂
Congratulations 🍾 Tommy and Morgan!!!
Dont be, my 2008 TDV6 ( Australia ) has been the best car i have owned. Had it for almost 7 years and 244k klms and it runs like a swiss watch, had a few issues along the way but nothing i couldn't fix at home.
I replaced my front struts 2 months ago due to one splitting and the ride is back to awesome again, i would think that your shocks would be worn out by now even if the air bags are still good. Having a base model has advantages as its easy to upgrade the stereo and add steering wheel switches, i put a 10" android head unit in which gives me android auto, bluetooth, wifi, reversing camera and GPS.
Time for you to start throwing some cash at it and make it even better.
A new base Defender 90 with steel wheels can be had for less than 60K, around the same price as the new 4Runner TRD Pro.
U math good😅
Ok?
@@flight2k5 you’d have to watch the full video to understand
@@jmax850 I did I didn’t see anything about it. Where is it at?

Congratulations 👏 🎉
We had a glimpse of Mrs Mika lol
The people who complain have probably never owned one and those that have and complained where probably on a budget I've owned LR vehicles for 25 years and never had a problem
Great update. What’s the latest on the white rr l405?
Congratulations, and as for that as a honeymoon, a couple of decades back when I was climbing Kilimanjaro, there was an American couple who had just got married and seemed to think that sharing mountain huts on Africa's highest mountain was a great way to start married life. That was serious off-road, just on foot though.
Congrats you two love-birds! And what a great honeymoon idea... I bet it was Tommy's idea!
Gotta say, I have a soft spot for the Disco 3, although I drive a 2009 LC200, just to be sure that I get home. 😎
Here in Aus, diesel is king, so we are more familiar with the 3litre V6 turbo diesel in the Disco while my Cruiser has the 4.5 litre V8 twin turbo diesel. Runs like a Swiss watch even at 320,000 km (200,000 miles).
They are great cars if properly taken care of. People expect LR luxury and comfort and tech with Corolla costs and that’s just stupid. Had a 2011 RRS and never skipped a beat, and the only engine I cannot go back to is the SCV6, they should’ve left the V8 in there which is far more reliable.
I will never financially recover from my time owning an LR4.. On the rare occasion it wasn't at the service center, I did love driving it.
Look at the sun baked roof!
The Colorado sun is hilariously hard on clear coats.
@@DampNoodles Ya so is Arizona. I have seen those "sunbelt" cars making it to the Midwest and the paint is baked.
Congratulations on finding someone who will put up with you. I found someone who would put up with me 33 years ago and she still does.
Congratulations Tommy!
Congrats Tommy! Cheers Kirk
Big Congrats to you Tommy and of course Morgan on your marriage. :) It is fantastic and Tommy is a happier man because of you Morgan. Hope to see both of you together in more videos. :)
Congrats Tommy and Morgan!
Way more reliable than a Toyota. Especially, the new Tacoma. You guys already had that fun experience.
Hi Tommy ……. Well done on taking the Boss 4x4ing !!!!
Back in the 1950’s the first vehicles the majority of the world saw was a Land Rover series one/two!!!!!
I’m talking Africa….. India…. Asia, Malaysia Singapore Australia New Zealand the oil fields of Saudi Arabia, South America etc etc!!
Today to find a Land Rover defender you need to go to Bond Street London, Rodeo Drive, New York city and other urban jungles!!!!!
JLR have lots the plot!!!!
My daily drive is a 1990 V8 3.9 lt automatic Range Rover that I’ve owned since new!!!! 280,000kms on the clock….. but a go anywhere car in style!!!!
Regards Ian 👨🎤🇳🇿😎👍🍸🍸
Hold on a second. IIRC it was you lot that were always saying the air suspension on LR's was going to fail. Mine is now over 150,000 miles (14yrs old) still original air suspension.
Congrats on your marriage... and congrats for appreciating the beauty of a Land Rover!
Love the license plate! Thanks for the great video.
Congratulations Tommy!! I wish you and Morgan a happy and adventure live together! And what about your LR 3, I personally think this model has the most beautiful design of all LR Disco's and Defenders. Also the New Defender.....And no other brand of SUV comes close, in my opinion.
Glad i wasnt the only one shocked by this. Congrats guys!
I currently own a LR3 and a LR4 and both have been as reliable as any other vehicle I’ve owned, including a Tacoma, but with that said I wouldn’t recommend a 15 to 20 year old 4x4 (of any make) to someone who prioritizes reliability. Old stuff eventually breaks. Even old Toyotas. If you’re looking at an older LR you should plan on staying on top of regular maintenance, and you might have to fix stuff once in a while. If you want something similar to a LR3 or LR4, but don’t want to worry about anything breaking, maybe check out a new LC 250.
Good scenery.
Congrats Tommy!
Great video, I watched twice! Congrats, Morgan sounds lovely! Keep promoting Land Rover greatness Tommy! I agree the new defender is just getting too far from reality. However, you didn't mention the LR4 and I really love my 2016 LR4 here in Canada. I sorted out the coolant pipes, timing chain and super charger coupler. Now I don't think there is anything else I need to worry about on that truck! ...that is if I keep up with regular maintenances of course ;o) If tou buy a LR3 or LR4 and know what their base issues are and fix them, as you said, they can be really reliable and soooo confortable for cheap!! Cheers and keep it up!
Had an LR3. Solid truck. Never had an issue.
Lol, they can be staunch and long lasting. Disco 2 owner and never had any issues once put a new AC Delco 80usd fuel pump into tank. Wellllll both sunroofs poured water in.
🎉congratulations
Congrats Tommy! Now go give the paint on the roof some love! xD
