it's not capitalism that is causing the forced labor camps in China, it's Communism, racism (Han Chinese superiority), centuries of being evil to your fellow man being ingrained into Chinese culture.

I don't understand the logic of guitars like this. They don't stay in tune, they sound like garbage, they don't play well. If anything they'll only put a new player off and end up gathering dust in a closet. By the time you've installed some decent tuners and pickups you might as well have just bought a better guitar in the first place. Just seems like a false economy to me.

It's not my first guitar, but my 5th guitar (and the last one I bought) was a Laguna LE122 off a friend for $50 because he didn't quite like how it played, plus hardly played anyway. I bought that thing in 2015, and it's been my primary guitar since then. My Epi Les Paul that my parents bought me for my first REAL guitar back in 2009 and this stupid Laguna have been the only guitars that I keep. This past Christmas I had some extra money from so I decided to buy the Alpha and Omega pickups, new tuners, and a new nut because why not, I've enjoyed it and I wouldn't be out much if I didn't like how it turned out.

I've dealt with Chinese guitars. Yes, you can upgrade them. However, what I've found is that that upgrading the electronics can be a real B*tch. I went to replace a neck pickup and the entire inside of the guitar was a wood spiderweb. I had to cut all the internal wiring, router out the splinters, then wire and solder everything.
Spend the money and buy an Ibanez Gio. It's on the lower end of the spectrum but they are solid guitars.

My friend got a tele - style guitar off Temu and he had me set it up. The gigbag had started ripping from the time he left home to the time I got it home!! I was afraid to hold it by the handles. The frets were sharp and not polished at all. Everything looked shiny and new, but you can just tell that the materials are questionable. The neck has a gloss finish, but it was so soft that my fingernails made indentations in it. The tuning machines were rough when turning. The pickups sound okay. I say it is a waste of $100. I got a sweet Cimar strat by Ibanez for $80 at a pawn shop that was made in Korea and is FAR better.

The selector thing could be that is not well put in the cavity. It happened to my the same thing with an Ibanez RG i got from a second hand store. Whoever checked or set up the guitar for the last time (i bet no one in the shop did) put it the wrong way and I could not access to all 5 positions until I corrected the position of the switch inside.

New guitars basically never stay in tune, because the new strings are still settling, so we can basically dismiss that issue. If you have to, you can also just lock down the bridge. Back when I was a kid, I got my first Charvelle, and I signed up for lessons at a local guitar shop. My teacher taught me how to stretch out the strings and tune my guitar, and the techs at the shop worked on the action and got it up and running. Thus, being perfect from the factory also isn't an issue (just ask Gibson!). If a parent has a kid that doesn't always follow through with things, but the kid is begging for a guitar, this makes total sense. I see some comments on here calling this a "false economy" and I couldn't disagree more. As if feeling a new hobby out with minimal investment is somehow dimwitted. As if when someone decides to keep going with this hobby, and they do actually decide to upgrade parts over time to make their guitar better, the student won't have a deeper connection with a guitar they modded themselves. You'd think all these nay-sayers worked for big guitar companies. These geniuses must buy Ferraris for their children when they're learning how to drive too.

It's not a scam, it's a direct distributor of Chinese goods. Like Amazon but with the middle man cut out. As to the data privacy concerns, they don't do anything many other companies already do. Only reason it's a controversy is because the US government is worried about competition for cheap goods, I.e. cutting out Amazon, so there has been some government investigation. Much like there has been on many companies. I personally will never use Temu though

I dot. Know about you guys, but I do understand and value the quality of a well set up and well built instrument. One of my best friends bought a used Spector neck through for half of its worth, and it to this day is one of the best playing basses I’ve ever held. Same goes for another friend’s Ken Smith. And by best playing, what I mean is a comfortable and predictable action, string height, arc of the saddles, proper nut height, all in the name of good tonality, intonation. We all have some experience with how intervals SHOULD sound, even if you’ve never touched any instrument, you’ve no doubt been listening to music enough to know when it’s right, maybe not realize when it’s a hair off, and also maybe not know why it’s off, but generally you’ll be able to tell when that fifth doesn’t sing like it did in that one sing. An instrument with poor dynamic stability will never intimate properly, but those are very rare. It even the lowliest of manufacturers WANTS to sell you a piece of shit, in relative terms. Yes, the tuners might be shoddy, but it WILL tune, maybe just not consistently. Maybe the neck has an imperceptible twist and that’s why it doesn’t feel right, but this isn’t the 1980’s. The supply of decent stock is plentiful, and believe it or not, the high end throw away wood is often better than your mediocre axe in your hand right now, and the smart guys are harvesting that wood and doing exactly this. Turning one man’s trash into another man’s cool and decent musical instrument.

I remember before the internet, say (1983), i wanted an electric guitar so much. No temu, but we had newspaper for sale adds. The guitar i bought for $60 1983 was infinately worse. Mine had a 2cm body thickness, surface mount pickups, i mean microphones, machine heads without headstock hole liners and two switches, on or off, and a tone and volume pot. But i didn't know anything about solid body guitars. I had been taking classical nylon lessons since grade 3 so on i got to tune it (an hour) which you needed pliers for because the string posts had pulled into the wood because of the lack of hole liners. I was so green i didnt even cut and shove some pipe in the holes to fix that. My teacher just shook his head and said at least its got a truss rod, which seemed important to him- i had no idea. Ok so my amp was dads old hi-fi amp and with some repurposed oval car dashboard am radio speakers, it made it sound loud. The guys at the music shop were great. They found a lead with guitar jack one end and hi-fi or rca jacks other end. And so my electric guitar journey bagan. The point of this comment is that temu would have given me better eqiupment and and saved the pain of learning to play on a hard to play guitar. Temu would've been great for my level. So give a thought to those "poor" people who cant just spend their dads car value on good gear. And i learned so much from trying to fix that dog that i ended up building my own guitar in school woodwork class, and when i could afford a real guitar i knew what to look for. Even so, i still remeber smiling from ear to ear the first time i played Wild Thing

Well played. A great way to deal with this situation. I was approached by Temu as well and had agreed to a sponsored video. I backed out BEFORE they sent me anything because I had made a reasonable request for something I thought would contribute to a good video. They said no giving me some lame song and dance and I just felt their response was a little "weird." So feeling their brand didn't align with mine I just told them politely I was out. You exit was far more entertaining! :)
