Another Porsche engineering masterpiece! Whilst I will always love and prefer a NA ICE, if I was going to get a hybrid it would, without doubt, be the 992.2! Incredible what Porsche have achieved here. Brilliant review Lee, and glad Porsche invited you, especially given that you know 911's best.
That's most kind, I was there thanks to people like you who watch my videos and support my work. So thank you and all my subscribers, sincerely, for enabling the opportunity.
Had a 991.2 GTS glorious exhaust note and brilliant handling, Then got a 992GTS even better performance handling but muted exhaust note. Put a deposit down for the 992.2 GTS and like you had loads of concerns, but You have dispelled my fears and looking to get my next one. PS have a very original 944 Turbo S it too is a brilliant drive even though it's 36 years young. Great honest review, as always.
I love it that Porsche don't use fake sounds ❣️👌🏼 For me as German, Porsche is the only German car brand where goes in the right direction 😅 ...where I can be proud of 💪🏼 Nice review, Lee ❕ Love from Berlin 🇩🇪 Ramsi 🙋🏻♂️
It's a shame Porsche aren't going in this direction for the new Cayman/Boxter. I predict those sales will drop off a cliff when the full electric versions come. Is a Manual still available in the standard car??
Great review as always Lee. I don't mind the sound of the GTS but I'm not sure it's a nice or better sound. It's certainly louder than the 3.0 engine, but it sounds a bit gruff/agricultural to me. I noticed the smoking tyre and savagegeese also weren't fans of the way it sounds. But, overall, what an engineering masterpiece by Porsche
Sounds amazing and nice to hear an excited reviewer for once! My only issue is the fact that you can literally not drive enthusiastically anywhere but a race track these days with speed cameras, mobile police speed checks etc etc. The fear of losing your licence in this car is just too overwhelming!
Maybe I missed it, but how does the hybrid fuel economy stack up? That is the real point of a hybrid, right? What mpg's can a guy expect on the road? Thanks for the review, Lee! -Tom
I think Porsche approach to hybrid has in this instance been performance orientated… hybrid torque used to beef up low rev thrust . There will be little or no fuel saving unless cruising .
great video Lee - you need to be on more launches, getting better and better, and good production too. Well done. I’m going to order one of these, 2WD coupe, I think its an almost perfect ‘Touring” car, Alps, Pyrenees etc, defo keep up with the GT3’s and 296’s on those roads by the sounds of it! 👌👏
Thanks Andrew for the kind words - very much hoping to be on future launches as a product expert, let's see! As for your pending purchase, I think the car will be a great all-rounder for those needs.
Amazing review mate. Your video and Henry Catchpole's were the only ones I needed to watch! Keep up the great content & podcasts. The clever use of hybrid tech is a really big positive with the new 911 IMO. The lack of analogue dials and manual transmission are a bit of a downer for me though if I'm honest. In the same way that wrist watches have come back in style, I hope that analogue dials make a return in a heritage or sport classic model!
As the rear seat is now a no cost option what’s the general opinion as to ticking this option box. My line of thought is when it comes to selling will it then appeal to a much wider market and therefore command a higher price ?
Pleasamtly surprised by the sound it makes and the power seems very god! I’m more concerned with longevity of the battery and the electric motor inside the turbo which will get extremely hot under sustained load. Time will tell I guess.
Fun review, interesting how this gts has won you over. Other reviews a bit more restrained. From all the reviews the sound is great, but they don't talk so much about it.
How so? This car actually beats it in power, performance , speed and sound. Without the knowledge of knowing it uses hybrid tech you wouldn’t even know.
hey man nice video for the sound is not fake is come by tube from exhaust to inside by speakers is not fake is take by outside to bring inside by speaker real deep sound and noise of engine is cool is no like skoda or cupra or others create fake sound by generator sound i love this way no bad bravo porsche and GTS is better and faster that gr3 rs or turbo S is killer machine very fast and top speed i saw speed max around 335 km can be more if push and this GTS no lag no delay full throttle thanks to F1 tech and turbo E charger beast and like AMG 43 and 63 se beast
Great review Geez 👊🏻👊🏻. Sounds decent . Thankfully brand new tech with E turbo, rather than carrying over E hybrid from panamera etc Rear seat delete as standard looks cool , you can bet most will add back as no cost option 😝 The maps on huge infotainment screen looked good. First impressions on cabin quality ? And THAT starter button 😂
Cheers mate! I don't mind the starter button… I'd prefer an actual key, but this privilege was taken away with the twist knob on the 992.1, which I didn't like either. Cabin quality appears the same… you decide if that's good or not!
That's a great question. If it's pure engagement on the public road you're after, a T is pretty much the sweet spot (though I'd go for a 991 over 992).
@@9WERKSTV for sure. I have a 718 gt4 and new 992 T which I’m enjoying with the exception of a few creaks and rattles that are getting serviced lol Was curious if consolidating both into the new GTS would be the move but I have a feeling I’d miss my stable
I am excited for the 994.1 will bring, it seems this is the future. I hope they will somehow figure out a way to bring a manual transmission with this T-Hybrid technology. The wild hissing waste-gate noise on the base 992.1 Carrera is one of my favorie things about the car though. For the new GTS, I think the AWD drive system would make more sense than in previous versions given the extra and instant power. I assume it will get great gas mileage.
It was lovely to watch your sheer amazement and delight at the wheel of this 992.2 t-hybrid 911. I’m relieved to hear your positive comments, not the least of them being the quality of the soundtrack, so essential in any 911. At this point my greatest fear is what will become of the 992.2 GT3. Let’s pray it keeps its NA 4.0 and the option of the 6 speed manual box 🙏 But as you say, we can always trust the Porsche engineers 😎
From I hear from Porsche is that they are converting every other vehicle (inc the cayman and boxsters) to EV or Hybrid so that they CAN continue to make the 4.0 NA ICE for the GT cars. This maintains their sale ratio's and emission standards for the EU then. As for Manual GT, I have also heard from Oz Porsche, that this won't be available in the .2 GT3. Something to do with all the auto driving tech these days (cruise control etc). Should find out in Nov?, Lee might know launch date? Mine's a manual CS, sweet!
Fun fact (observation), this is now a 5-11, or 5-5-2. Let me explain. The 992.1 has 9 fins (x2) and 2 rear verticle brake lights on the engine deck lid, the 992.2 only has 5 fins, then 2 brake lights then 5 fins again. A shame that porsche didn't keep the 9-2-9 combo. i.e. making it 9-9-2 or 9-11.
Does it have fake piped in exhaust sounds? Doesn't really sound like any of the other iterations of the flat six... Not in the best way... More generic, like a V6 😢
I understand that the new Tech benefits the driving experience in the new GTS, but I’m concerned that the 911 continues to gain weight. I know this car isn’t a huge gain over the previous model but the trend is heavier rather than lighter. I think for the next model they are going to have find ways to reduce the weight or we’ll have a 1650kg GTS, then 1700kg and so on until they weigh as much as the last gen M5. and we know how much weight that gained for new new model
The GTS seems to be indeed an amazing next level car. My only concerns is how this technology stands the test of time and maybe excessive repair costs - if you are not car flipping every 4 years . But maybe this kinds of thoughts are little bit too petit bourgois for the target audience.
I’m with you on this - the other aspect for me is ‘heavy cars feeling light’ - that balance will not be maintained without rigorous maintenance and renewal of everything that imparts that feel to the car.
I would have loved to… it was a helluva busy day, and getting lots of multi-media content was chaotic at times (we were also interviewing engineers for our 9WERKS Radio podcast, plus there's bonus footage for our members, for example). As for swapping your granny's cottage, I think she'd understand!
Did you seriously think that a hybridized 911 wouldn't be a complete sports car? With their history of incredible performing hybrids, wouldn't that be a tad silly?
I love driving a manual but when it comes to a car with thus performance it doesn't make sense the same way you wouldn't find a formula one car with a manual. If you want a manual you can just buy a slower car there are lots available including 992.1 models
Argh! Porsche engineers are able to make each successive 911 better than the one before. This new GTS seems to be no exception and is especially tempting for a 911 owner like me. Part of Porsche’s objective I suppose 😏.
The"soundtrack"? Subjective. Doesn't sound bad but you are buying a911. Quickl imhi the base/Carrera S and GTS do not. It's just"sunshine" off sportscar sounds. The only 911s that still sounds like 911s SHOULD are the naturally aspirated GT3 cars. Trouble is there's a hefty premium.... The Their S has apparatus sounded as it does... If you just m like that sounds... Then that would be a good choice... Odd there isn't an"affordable" NA⁹11... Peugeot behave the Carrera S and GTS
Really great journalism. As for the car, it is without doubt a technical marvel, but it seems like a bloated PlayStation on wheels I.e. it’s sold its soul to the digital devil.

According to some other U Tube reviews, the sound is faked into the cabin but that doesn’t bother me.

savagegeese says that some of the engine sound is coming through rear speakers, are you sure it's not faked/augmented?
Great review, love the enthusiasm and detail! Great to hear Porsche have smashed it again and our beloved 911 is in safe hands!
Great video, Lee.
And finally you got your sound (volume) right😃 That mic pays for itself!
It looks superb absolutely stunning.
I was never a fan of how the non-GT 992.1 sounded, but this sounds much much better. Hats off to Porsche
what do you think of the piped in sound?
Great review! Would you go with the carbon or steel breaks, is it worth the extra £9k due to how fast it is
Great video, well shot.
All that torque at what is, basically, a fast idle. Gonna be a monster on point’n’squirt b-roads assuming the road is wide enough for a big 992 body.

4 wheel drive or 2 with all that torque in the UK wet winters ???
If the majority of your driving is on road, I’d go AWD for sure.

That’s not the point. No 911 owner cares about fuel economy
Thanks, Tom. I never checked fuel economy, I rarely do in a 911. Maybe I should!
Nice review, Not sure if it was your microphones but it didn't sound like a great engine note, as it sounded synthetic.

How is the wind buffeting on the new targa. I had a 992.1 GTS targa and just really annoyed me with the swirling and buffeting over a cab
