Music is the most beautiful "language" Humanity discovered, ever and for ever... and Vangelis was one of the most gifted channels of such "language" of all times.
THANK YOU for playing a cover of this epic song that so few today have ever heard. Keep up the amazing work! Fun Fact: I was probably the only person humming this amazing Vangelis song while playing in the 3rd round of the 2009 Monopoly National Championships. I won that game with an incredible come-from-behind victory to secure a seat at the Finals Match table. And I credit the calming, focus-strengthening, hope-driven power of this incredible song for aiding me through that match (along with lots of prayer, lots of luck, and about a thousand well-timed strategy-based decisions! But it was THIS here Vangelis "Five Circles" song that helped all that happen!). (You can see me play in that championship in the Emmy award-winning documentary film "Under the Boardwalk" (2010) on Amazon Prime, and I *literally* was humming this song through most of my Round 3 victory (which is not shown in the movie, but *did* happen in real life! GO VANGELIS!!)
Sorry for the delay; I’m traveling in Asia. I’ll try to check out your video when I get home. I love your comments! I dearly love Five Circles and never understand why it isn’t more popular with Vangelis fans. Thanks so much!
Yes!! I don't understand why Five Circles is not more popular among Vangelis fans! Yesterday, one of my Vangelis covers had 100 views... another had 200... This video had none.
Thank you! If I had to pick my own favorite cover, it would probably be this. It's not as popular as some of the others for some reason, but it never gets old for me.
Beautiful rendition! As a kid, I'd read Madeleine L'Engle's books "A Wrinkle in Time" and "A Wind in the Door" with the music of "Chariots of Fire" playing in the background. This cover brings back those memories in a huge way. Makes me think I ought revisit that combo. Just gotta find me copies of said books. 😅
Thanks! This is one of my favorites for sure. Mom read A Wrinkle in Time to my sister and I when we were very young, although I can't remember much of it now. My sister went on to read the others.
Beautiful version !! Excellent sound recreation, and excellent live performance. Thank you very much for sharing and keeping alive one of Vangelis's most beautiful compositions.
Amazing, it sounds like Vangelis himself, well done. And you have an impressive keyboard rig, together with the emperor of the keyboards- the Hammond organ!
Congratulations!! Genial!!! Muy buena versión y recreación del presets. Aplausos.Hoy sigo escuchando ese tema , entre otros tantos del maestro. Exitos.
@@TaurusTarkus I'm a MODX user but it share most features with the Montage. I guess you must have tried the CS80 library for the Montage (free from Yamaha).
@@synthverkstad2093 The MODX would probably be better to gig with. The Montage is quite heavy. Yes- I was very excited to download the CS-80 library, but I guess I haven't been especially thrilled with them for some reason. I should experiment with them some more. I did use one for bass on this track, but so far I've had better luck getting the CS-80 sounds out of the Prophet Rev2.
Thanks! The Prophet '08 and Rev2 are incredibly flexible, and so programming them isn't always as easy as some others (e.g., Prophet-6, OB-6). It doesn't help that they don't have the best presets.
Hi Andrew- I think that's an excellent idea! I've thought about how to do Conquest of Paradise, but I don't know how well it would work give the big vocals. It's also been covered more. But Twenty Eighth Parallel sounds like it was just Vangelis with his instruments, and yet it has that beautiful theme music. Of course, as you may have noticed, these things take me a while. I'm currently working on Rachel's Song and am planning to record it with my daughter singing. We have a narrow window to record it, as she is moving to South Korea to perform and may be gone for a year or more.
Awesome! The lead brass tone sounds almost spot-on the original recording. 👏👏👏 Just a little question: Did you use a volume or expression pedal for the volume swells? Or were they all auto-swells from the synth? (slow attack)
Many thanks! I spent a tremendous amount of time on those lead brass patches. I don't think I used a volume pedal at all. The upper patch is more like a French horn and the lower is a little brighter with more resonance. They both have slow attacks of both filter and amp. On one, the filter opened first, with the amp slightly slower, and the other patch was opposite. Aftertouch also opened the filter more, especially on the lower patch... and also gave it a little more LFO movement. And then I had slightly different patches running on the Rev2 module on the other channel, which gives it a lot more stereo richness.
OMG, I listened to it and prefer it to the original because of your tone. How did you get that patch on the prophet? are you using two different layers with different ADSR settings?
Your comment made my day! Please like & share. This is probably still my favorite of the covers I've done, and I spent a tremendous amount of time on those lead patches, editing, editing, & editing again. It's such a beautiful piece of music that it is worth it. As you can see, I am using a split with two different lead patches, which sound similar but are really pretty different. For example, in addition to different ADSR's, the right side patch has more resonance but is more muted like a French horn, while the left side patch is brighter and has a bigger range on the filter with after touch. You are correct: I am using two Rev2's layered together (you can see the module more clearly in my videos where I am standing). They have random offsets of 1 or 2 for the ADSR envelops for both the filter and the amp, and also for the filter, resonance and filter envelop amounts. The instruments are also slightly detuned. As I mention in the description, I am also getting additional programmed randomness because I started with a VCM template: Voice Controlled Modulation by CreativeSpiral. Those "random offsets" are what we like about vintage synthesizers and what Sequential is now using in its vintage knobs on the OB-6, Prophet-6 and Prophet-5/10. Thanks!
@@TaurusTarkus I will attempt it. Beautiful patch and I hear you that editing never ends :) It’s videos like these that make me realize the full power of prophet8/rev2. The Kashmir was incredible too!! In fact going to go listen to it again :)
@@AndyNyle Thanks! I'm having a friend sing Kashmir, which I'll upload at some point. But he's taking his time, and so I thought I'd publish the instrumental version. I think the string arrangements by John Paul Jones are brilliant, and I don't think most covers give them the attention they deserve.
I know this is from “Chariots of Fire”, but I can’t help but think of this being in “Life of Pi”. This song has a certain harmony to it that in my view is reminiscent of the imagery portrayed in “Life of Pi”.
I had not listened to the music of Life of Pi for a number of years; I saw the film only once years ago. So I decided to listen to the soundtrack this past week. It's a beautiful. Some of it reminds me of Thomas Newman, whom I love. Five Circles takes me away and can conjure many noble images. I believe there is a new musical of Life of Pi, which should be interesting.
