I'm happy to collaborate again with Brian and Jon. While there are many great covers of this amazing piece, I have not seen the ones that do justice to the brilliant arrangements of John Paul Jones. Rather than using acoustic sounding horns, I was going for the mighty Yamaha GX-1 Horn sound (perhaps the most impressive synthesizer ever produced), which JPJ used to play this live.

Blade Runner Blues is used (to devastating effect) more than once in the film Blade Runner. The scene in which Deckard "retires" Zhora is especially eviscerating. This cover probably took longer than any of my others... partly because of the length and partly because of the unusually difficult to program lead sound. I've done a "Making of a Cover" video in order to talk to Keyboard Players abou...

Probably best around Halloween. I was pleased with the Analog Pipe Organ I was able to program into the Prophet Rev2's (2 MIDIed together for true stereo). For the second time through, the Yamaha Montage is controlling the Prophets via MIDI, but also adds a Choir, some additional Pipe Organ, and some Strings. ...So you are getting a blend of three organ sources, plus Choir and Strings. This beautiful and poignant music was the last piece played at the funeral service for Vangelis. The scene in the film is one of the most moving death sequences in cinema history. My parents did not take me to rated R movies, and so I did get to see Blade Runner for a while, even though I was a big fan of Harrison Ford. When I did see it, I think it went over my head a bit. A favorite Christmas song, and the song that makes me cry more than all others combined… but you have to hang in there ’til the second half for the really brilliant lyrics. Singing it nearly always gets me, and this time I was able to hold it together until at least pretty close to the end. The song hit me harder when I recorded this, as my 24-year-old "sweet blue-eyed girl” was living in Korea...

1:17 When I saw Blade Runner in theatrical release it movved me. The music was ethereal. But no one else saw it. It was as if I knew about this secret world that no one else knew about.
I can imagine. I was a big fan of Harrison Ford, but my parents wouldn't let me see it because of the R rating. When I did see it, I think it went over my head. I also was never able to see it on the big screen, where it was meant to be experienced.
Listening to this music IS like travelling through space. It takes you to another dimension.
Indeed it does. A lot of the music of Vangelis is transportive: sometimes space, sometimes other countries, times, and worlds.
This melancholy song plays during the slow-motion death of Zora falling through glass ...
...One of the most powerful scenes in the film.
This masterpiece is an epitome of future nostalgia. A moment in time we long for and yet we never experienced it.
Thanks for your beautiful words.
Nailed it. Subscribed. Do you mind if I ask what organ is that in the background? a B3?
Many thanks for your comments! It is a Hammond 1957 C3. As you may know, the C3 and B3 have the same guts and console; the only difference is the style of the wooden cabinet. In my case, my heros (e.g., Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Steve Walsh, Jon Lord, etc.) played the C3, and so I prefer the look of it. You can hear mine the best in the video of Hoedown: th-cam.com/video/isLxcjVlLyQ/w-d-xo.html
@@TaurusTarkus Thank you so much! Do you have any idea what instrument(s) this is? Specifically the unison lead lines @ 1:42 th-cam.com/video/5w9cqcF-2bI/w-d-xo.html It sounds like there might be some organ or something layered in there super quiet in the high end but I can't figure out what that mallet-like sound is.
@@jonathanbobo722 That's a good question! I've enjoyed this track many times over the years. Ennio Morricone used such unusual instrumentation. I think he did a lot with mallet percussion (e.g., vibraphone, etc.). The high part that comes in at 1:42 sounds like it could be bells/glockenspiel. I read somewhere that he used a Hammond X-66 organ, which was in production when this was recorded. It's hard to know. Some of my first covers were by Ennio Morricone, and I would have been happy to do more... But they don't seem to get much attention. I like doing big orchestral film scores on my keyboards, but I think fans of that music want to hear it done with orchestral instruments.
@@TaurusTarkus oh my gosh I think that might be it! The x66 organ. I watched a couple videos and it seems to have a that type of sound. Could be a Glock layered in there too. Thank you so much! I’ve been trying to chase down some of these sounds so that I can do my own covers as well.
Wow! Great performance!

Absolutely beautiful, so well covered. I need to see if I can create this with my equipment... I have a nice synth but the menus and options are quite intimidating... If I could program that background wind swell it would be so awesome....
Many thanks for your kind comments! I have a few "Making of a Cover" videos where I go into detail about settings and patches. I did the wind with the Prophet Rev2, but many instruments could do it.

amazing! Thank You ... always loved this track
Many thanks!
Пожалуйста, подскажите какой синтезатор использован для Bells?
@TaurusTarkus Спасибо!)

So much emotion put into that song. I can almost taste it.Beautifully played.
Thanks for the kind comments! When I recorded this, I had just set up the camera and recording stuff and was really just intending to practice (it's a lot to remember). I try to put emotion into each beautiful phrase and afterward was a little annoyed by some of the uninhibited faces I was making. But it truly is an uninhibited performance... more like when I am alone, and so I thought I would go with it instead of trying to look cool. :)
@@TaurusTarkus I think it just shows how much you put in each and every piece of music you put out for us to enjoy. I was truly in awe because, like you state, it's so much to remember and the fact that you do it from memory makes me appreciate it even more.
I love when these videos get to the right people! The Vangelis covers always take longer than I anticipate, but this one was especially involved. My two most popular videos (Memories of Green and Tears in Rain) actually took the least time, and End Titles and this took the most.

Hi would it be possible to see if the moog one could come close to the sound of the cs80? Or any advice for me as I have one and am trying?
Congratulations on the superb Moog One! There is a lot to love there, including my favorite Fatar keybed. It may depend a bit which CS-80 sound you are going for. I'm going to assume that you have watched my "Making of a Cover" videos- if not, they would be helpful. I talk about the Blade Runner Blues lead in my recent one and the Blade Runner Brass sound in the third one. I haven't spent a lot of time with the Moog One, and so I can't say exactly how the filter section is set up. Your State Variable Filter should be closer to a CS-80 than the Moog Ladder Filter. However, if you can select 2-pole only on the Ladder, then it may work better. (The CS-80 is closer to a 2-pole than a normal 4-pole Ladder filter.) If possible, I think the ideal would be to use two of the layers most of the time (to simulate the two layers of the CS), with each layer using two 2-pole State Variable Filters- the first for high pass and the second for low pass. You could then use that third layer for getting something like the CS-80 Sine Wave, which you could then blend in with greater volume, like I talk about in Making of a Cover 4.
Really beautiful! Regarding synthesizer equipment, maybe you could provide me with some advice: currently I use a Roland Lx706 digital piano coupled with a Roland Integra7. Now, the Integra7 revealed itself as quite a disappointment for my particular needs since I play classical music (especially J. S. Bach) with enhanced sounds (you can get a quick idea by checking some pieces on my own TH-cam channel). Although I love the kind of typical "synthesizer" sounds you employ here in this case, I can't use patches that take too much time to build up and/or fade away. Secondly, I would like to employ more first-class sounds that imitate the classical orchestra. Roland brags about their "super natural" patches of solo string and woodwind instruments, but you can't use them for simultaneous voices like Bach. On the other hand, Roland's string sections of the orchestra are just bad. The same goes for their human "voices". There is another important restriction regarding my playing: it is always "live". That's why I can't use those splendid (!) patches "NotePerformer" provides. And finally, my current master keyboard is very touch-sensitive and I wouldn't want to miss that. Since I always play and record with earphones, maybe you know some alternative brand and/or models which I could buy in the future. So, if you have some idea for additional equipment suitable for my situation, your advice would be very much appreciated.
Fantastic!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your kind comments!
What a beautiful performance. Thank you.
Many thanks for your comments!
Great! But how does that equipment cost 😊
Thanks! I bought my first synthesizer (a Korg Poly 800) over 40 years ago and have been buying and selling musical equipment ever since. So if I divide the cost of my current rig by 40 years... it's less than $50 a month. :)
Mostruoso!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
