A few minutes of Happiness and Peace... from one of the most beautiful pieces by Vangelis. Dedicated to my daughter.
I decided to attempt to do a cover of this piece when I first bought a Yamaha Montage and heard how great some of the acoustic guitars were. I thought I could do a decent live cover with the acoustic guitar in the left hand and the electric piano in the right. But I later decided to do "a duet with myself," which worked out better, especially since there is more going on with the keys than I first noticed. There are a number of electric piano overdubs played higher with different panning. I tried to replicate this by having the upper notes of the electric piano panning differently from the lower, so that they would sound like they were coming from different instruments. If you stay with me until the very end, you may also notice that I layered some of the higher notes to double and play an octave higher... so you get the effect of an octave by playing just one note. This doesn’t work for most of the piece, but I was able to bring the effect in at the end nicely with a pedal. So what you get is really something like a live duet. On the Prophet, I was happy to get sort of a dreamy choir with triangle waves and then later bring in audio modulation with the modulation wheel, making it more like a string.
One of his most emotive music. Vangelis has passed away today. He enlighted our lives. R.I.P
Vangelis made the world a better place... and influenced many of us. Thank you for this fantastic rendition of his genius.

Thanks so much! You can hear her sing "Rachel's Song" and "All I Ask of You" here on my channel. The cover that moved her the most was surely "White Wine in the Sun," which I really sang to her... The second half deals with being away from home over the holidays, and when I recorded it, she was living thousands of miles away in South Korea. (...which is why I start to lose it at the end...)

Thanks. I wasn't blown away by the power of the Prophet '08 when I first got it, and was mostly disappointed by the presets. But I've been using the instrument and its offspring the Rev2 for a while now, and its versatility is incredible. Many seem to use it in a harsh way. This particular Rev2 sound uses Triangle waveforms, which definitely warm things up. A saw or pulse wave blended with a triangle can give the Rev2 a lot of different colors.

@@AndyNyle The Prophet '08 is magnificent, but like the CS-80, it needs a good reverb to really shine.

For many years I ignored L'Apocalypse des animaux for some reason. I heard it about a year ago and I often go back to this track to remind just how good it is. This track along with Le singe bleu has a lazy jazz vibe that reminds you of black and white french films with Alain Delon. Vangelis was truly a remarkable composer and this rich cover does the piece every justice it possibly can.
Thanks! I know what you mean: it elicits a European nostalgia in me for France and Italy. I had this track on my first Vangelis CD "Themes" and consider it to be one of his most beautiful.

I know this has been posted years ago but this is genuinely one of my favorite covers for a while. It's really executed amazingly! I love vangelis's pieces but I'm not skilled enough to play them myself to be honest. Whenever I listen to this cover it gives me goosebumps keep up the good work!

Wow. You had me captivated the entire performance. Very, very faithful cover of one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I've ever heard. You got the electric piano sound perfect, which is just as important as the notes themselves...at least to me. Well done, sir.

Beautiful. That version of a Prophet is a sleeper. Its definitely a synth players instruments. A player friend of mine calls his a 'tweekers delight' (programmer's delight lol). Bravo. The Maestro is smiling somewhere.😏
Thank you so much for your comments! Yes; I really love the Prophet Rev2, as well as the Prophet '08 that came before it. Fortunately, whenever I play more expensive instruments, I generally don't feel like they are going to work better for me in the long run, especially since I like to record live. For example, the Prophet 5 or 10 would sound better if I did a lot over overdubbing, but doesn't do live stereo. As your friend has noticed, the Rev2 didn't blow me away by the presets (although they were better than on the '08!)... but the more I spend time programming it, the more I love it. It can sound bad, (which a OB-X8 can't seem to do) but it takes a tweeker/programmer to bring out the beauty.

This song (a nd the album "L'Apocalypse des animaux") is from 1973.... Musically it is extremely melodic and is played with acoustic instruments (this song its a clear example), mainly spanish guitars and piano, along with organs and electric pianos, amplified and processed with effects. Vangelis would not use synthesizers until 1974.
Finally, I must say, this cover was executed just as the original record, entirely
the work was recorded in 1971, in Paris.
@@jarreliebana921 yes..but was lauched in 1973 by Polydor Records.... It was made for a homonymous documentary series, dedicated to the animal kingdom, directed in 1972 by the French director Frédéric Rossif

Is a masterpiece of a Chinese company in collaboration with French experts. It is his first instrument and I am waiting the developing of a more powerful machine. OMG!

@@Escuchalabrisa I saw that Vangelis has one, and I have heard that he really likes it, which did influence my decision to get one. It's really the only modern keyboard I know of with polyphonic aftertouch and a ribbon controlled. I picked it up this week. It's going to take a while to figure out how to really program it, but I'm excited about the possibilities!

Thanks! Yes, this melody is just gorgeous. I played the Prophet '08 prior to the introduction of the Rev2, and I'm still consistently happy with the Rev2! I've played the "better sounding" Prophet 10, Prophet-6, and OB-6... and yet when I put it all together with features, etc... I'm still very happy with the Rev2!
@@TaurusTarkus the only thing that I don't like sometimes on the Rev 2 it's the clipping on main volume ,but I control it with vca envelope amount and with programs volume and its ok!I
@@emfire8103 Some people say that it sounds better "warmer" with the VCA and/or Program Volume turned down a bit. I personally have learned more about setting the gain staging on my mixer just in the last few years... and I wonder if lowering it would help with clipping. I don't have any issues with clipping if my gain staging is set correctly. So for example, if you take a patch that is clipping, play a full chord to get it really clipping, and now reduce the gain on the mixer (not volume). I also tend to set the volume knob on my Prophets to about 3:00 rather than wide open.
