You nailed the Manics live sound, and this is coming from an ex Manics tribute band guy and Manics super geek. I've waited for this Sounds Like for ages, and it didn't disappoint 😁
David young man you seem to be having far too much fun and not treating the task with the reverence it requires, so stop being silly and enjoying yourself!!! ,Ashamed is what you should be ! Also that young lady showed signs of silliness creeping up on her. yours sincerely Major Tut-Tut Minor G.B.H.and Bar( ret) late of H.M. Mounted Flugelhorn Hussar's. 😲🤘
I've been waiting for an Andertons episode on the Manics, thanks Cici and Dave for making it come true. I'd LOVE too see a Captain Meets James Dean Bradfield. Love from 🇦🇷
Well i didn't expect to see you guys doing a video on Manic Street Preachers. I only know The Chemical Brothers remix of Everything Must Go so i'll check them out after this video.
This was so great and well overdue for a sound like, you guys nailed it. My personal favourite MSP is the gold against the soul album when they went a bit heavier
Thank you I really enjoyed this good job . I’ve been extremely lucky over the last few years to record in the manics wonderful studio and played on Sean Moore’s drum kits . Also had a little play on James Gibson ❤️
It would be amazing to do a sounds like the smiths video particularly what difference does it make the john peel sessions version as the bass is immense on it and johnny marrs guitar is amazing as it always is 👍
Totally agree is that version played with a capo at the 4th instead of 2nd fret if in standard tuning ? barbarism begins at home also top bass and guitar playing
Never heard of this band, I'm old- but their name reminds me of a guy who walks the streets in a town here near where I live. He has a huge radio on his shoulder- walks around with it up to his ear- but there's never any music playing from it. We have no idea what exactly he's listening to, but he says it's God, and every once and awhile he stops, sets the radio down, and decides we all need to hear what God has been telling him- so he starts preaching. Thing is, usually there's no one there- he's preaching to the wind, and he's very passionate and animated about it. If you stop and listen to him, he just goes on like nothing changed- never acknowledges you're there or anything. And when the sermon is over, he hefts the radio back to his shoulder and off he goes. I have no idea where he lives, if anywhere- I just see him walking, all the time. But he has to eat some where I guess, and sleep- he probably has a home somewhere in town.
I’d also love to see them do another Sound Like for System of a Down, the one from Rabea and Matt was the first Anderton’s video I ever saw and is still one of my favourites but I would still love to see Dave and Cici take it on because Shavo’s bass tone is absolutely massive
It occurs to me when Dave grabbed the white LP it is not look-a-lot-a-likely so no need to go all in on the look (But if you can why not) That said loved the sound. Great vid again from Cici and Dave.
I’ve heard of this band but don’t know any of their music. The guitar tone in this video is (surprisingly?) good. That octave stuff @9:40 is especially delicious. Dang, that Catalyst with/without the Golden Plexi sounds as good or better than a lot of boutique/high-end tube amps.
I own all their autographs (including Richey Edwards) and own signed vinyl of their's too, even their record producer signed my vinyl sleeve of If you tolerate this your children will be next! also seen them live over 15 times in concert. Amazing band. - C
I just checked out The Manics Wiki page. I've never seen a Wiki page that large, and yet I've never heard of them. Must not of caught on in the States. I'm interested in hearing them.
There’s been a fair few cracking bands that were big here and Europe but never really broke through in the US, it’s a shame you missed out at the time.
The solo on “If you Tolerate This” was recorded by James on a blue Rickenbacker 360/12, but he did always use his trusty white Custom for this song live. The lead on Motorcycle was actually played by the late Richie Edwards on a 70s Thinline Telecaster, but again, JDB played it live on his Custom! Would love to see a sound like of the other two Welshies ‘Phonics and Feeder (especially the latter). Grant Nicolas is a big offset user, so I expect some Squier CV Jazzmaster action. The bass department would be even more interesting, as Taka uses some interesting custom made stuff.
I doubt Richey played lead on Motorcycle Emptiness. He mimed most of the time in live shows and only contributed guitar on two tracks in the entire three studio albums they did while he was in the band. He could write a fantastic lyric, he could look good on stage but he could not play guitar well and certainly not to the standard of lead on Motorcycle Emptiness.
@@danielthompson4463 He never played lead on any track and only played rhythm on La Tristesse and No Surface out of all the 3 albums he was involved in. However, the myth that he never played live was trotted out like a Sex Pistols line, even by Richey himself - as a guitarist, I have watched countless live videos stretching from performances in 91 to 94, and after studying his playing, I can confirm that he plays everything in the right places. Why he's turned down so low is only known by the band, but it could be that James didn't want to be distracted by his mistakes, or he never felt confident enough to be high in the mix. You can hear his guitar clearly on Reading 92, Glasto 94 and The Astoria 94
Very nice you two... Now David, since your review of the line 6 Catalyst on your channel, I am wondering if you made friends with it now, and if the amp that you reviewed was replaced with a new one and with that you will give us a new update on the amp... You make the amp sound great in this video.. Thanks :)
we also need to get a sounds like SixxAM so Cici can finally use that thunderbird, also DJ Ashba would be a fun sounds like for Dave. plus SixxAM rock and need more recognition
They were stood in front of a white LP-type guitar at the start and I thought they were gonna go for that which is why they were stood there, esp. like it might have been one of those cheaper brands like Eastcoast that Dave digs. But I think from some digging on the Andertons site that it is a Sire Larry Carlton and that's only a little bit cheaper than the Epi - obvs an Epi is spot-right-on for an LP custom bar the headstock, so...just a rambly comment from me 😁
As a Manics fan I'd say you nailed the tones pretty well. However, as an angry-Manics fan, I was hoping you'd use Archives of Pain to demonstrate some tones
Love this, of the nineties bands from that era, it would be the Manics or Suede that would be the bands I love the sound of. So in the future it would be great to hear a Sounds like Suede (either Butler era or Oakes era), or from the late nineties to present Sounds like The Living End please, be interesting to see Cici get a budget double bass?
The first concert I ever went to was the Design for life tour. Still the best live music event I've ever experienced. Front row, watching that white LP and geeking out. Top video you pair.
For The Holy Bible, Bradfield supposedly recorded using a Jazzmaster, which explains the sharp twangy guitar tone on that album, which is hard to achieve on a Les Paul with stock humbuckers.
Seen The Manics a few times first time way back in ‘92 at the Town and Country Club. I remember when they first came out they were really slated by the music press as being Clash rip offs mostly I think for their choice of wearing self painted slogan shirts. That was the reason that Richy Edwards carved For Real into his arm during a Steve Lamacq interview
Sounds like, looks like. I don't think you need a guitar that looks the same to sounds like someone, but you're probably moving more white custom Epi Les Pauls, which is the point.
You nailed the Manics live sound, and this is coming from an ex Manics tribute band guy and Manics super geek. I've waited for this Sounds Like for ages, and it didn't disappoint 😁
Omg finally a Manics appreciation on Andertons :D We need a Captain meets James Dean Bradfield
You were so right Dave about JDB being one of the most underrated guitarists. Sean Moore is also one of the most underrated drummers.
All-round underrated band. Would be huge if they'd come out today
they are one of my fav bands of all time!
Wow a Landon Bailey comment out in the wild!
💥*Wilhelm scream*

My second favourite band and the band I've seen most live at 11 times .
The Manics are awesome ❤
I literally got Gold Against The Soul on CD earlier today and this pops up in my feed. Hell yeah
What an album 😉
About time JD Bradfield got the love as a guitarist he deserves, truly underrated
Finally the Manics on a budget, very cool. Thanks Dave & Cici. Next up The Stereophonics please.
Quite apart from how much it sounded like live Manics, that was just such an excellent sound. For both Cici and Dave, they show, it's in the fingers!
agreed! Tones and playing were awesome
Finally finally got to Manics!
Absolutely great band.
Always love being part of these! :)
If 2/3rds of the trio are in Guildford for these vids, is there any hope of you kidnapping John Joe and doing a gig in the evening? 🤔
You guy sounded brilliant as The Manics.
Cici you're gonna have to dye your roots or people will start realising your hair isn't naturally red and purple!
Great episode. It's so nice to see Cici and Dave making this series their own.
And yes, Alpine White Customs do sound better!
Dave spot on that James Dean Bradfield is an underrated guitarist - massively so
I've been waiting for an Andertons episode on the Manics, thanks Cici and Dave for making it come true. I'd LOVE too see a Captain Meets James Dean Bradfield. Love from 🇦🇷
Yeaah, a new Sound like with Cici and Dave, happy days, as Dave would put it.
Some really nice tones there. Even if you're not a manics fan, both rigs are really good choices.
This was my childhood dream: Amderton's doing a Spunds Like of the Manic Street Preachers
Been waiting ages for this!!! Top job!! Thanks
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a sound like Killing joke! One of the most unique and incredible guitar sounds
R.I.P. Geordie Walker 1958-2023
I had a white Epi LP in the early 2000's. A purchase very much inspired by Mr. Bradfield. Fantastic guitars!!! 🤩
Great video guys, so good to see The Manics given the Simpson and Cici treatment, brilliant 😎 Nailed it.
Mr Simpson and Queenie you both once again nail it on a relative shoe string. 👏
00:24 Amen to that! What a great player and vocalist. So good live.
Forgotten what a fantastic song Motorcycle Emptiness is. Going to play it loud today
Stuff work. Cici & Dave are doing sounds like on Andertons. I’ll be back to work when I’ve finished watching! 😜👍
LOVE the Resi 4 reference. worth it just for that haha
Preaching to the converted. Magical sounds both of you... amazing.
Finally got to listen to this right through. Wonderful job both of you - spot on for an MSP live sound.
Well done, thoroughly enjoy these new Sound-Likes.

From Despair to Where is just about flawless. Donkeys is epic.
Love the Manics and who else better to regain their sound, thank you Queenie and Dave!
The Design For Life cover was one of the best Sounds Like covers ever. Nailed.
My favourite Andertons videos! 💥🔥
Oh yeah! Enjoyed this so much, thanks for sharing
Got to see em this past November when they came to Vancouver

I'm possibly the biggest manics fan, so this'll be very interesting
In honour of their hof nomination any chance of a sounds like sound Garden? I would slay audioslave but the ratm one covers that
LOVED THIS! Thank you!
Now they need to do a Motley Crüe Sounds Like. I know Matt and Rebea did it, but now Cici needs to add a Nikki Sixx bass rig on a budget.
I’d also love to see them do another Sound Like for System of a Down, the one from Rabea and Matt was the first Anderton’s video I ever saw and is still one of my favourites but I would still love to see Dave and Cici take it on because Shavo’s bass tone is absolutely massive
As a massive manics fan, WOW. Fantastic!
Been waiting for this one for YEARS!!!!!!!! Bought the same Epi LP custom from Andertons, great value guitar.
Motorcycle Emptiness was recorded on a Tele Thinline
It occurs to me when Dave grabbed the white LP it is not look-a-lot-a-likely so no need to go all in on the look (But if you can why not) That said loved the sound. Great vid again from Cici and Dave.

Love The Manic Street Preachers. I was hoping for Faster just because thats my favourite song of theirs but I guess we cant get everything we want
Really loved this! Really want to see sound like John Mayer AND Pino Palladino at some point, not enough people talk about Pino!
Been waiting for someone to do this for yonks, James uses a boss super chorus on motorcycle emptiness.
The glove by ehx is my go-to distortion, with a vox ac10 slightly overdriven

James Dean Bradfield has also played Gordon Smiths. His choice of a white Les Paul Custom was straight out of him being a fan of Steve Jones
