  • This is probably the MOST IMPORTANT thing you can do for your Honda Trail CT125! These bikes can go a long time with proper maintenance. If you want to get the most out of your Honda CT125, you'll definitely want to do that first 600 mile maintenance. I too bought a 2023, & I'm coming up on 500mi, so thanks for the video!
Got to say, I'm a bit disappointed the new trail 125s don't have the low range gears the old bikes did. The 125 doesn't have much power to get it up a steep hill, so you'll likely find the bike runs out of power before you reach the top. And worse, there is no handbrake for the rear tire, just a foot brake. But of course when the bike won't make the top, you'll want to put your feet down to keep from falling over. To put your feet down, you have to take your foot off the rear brake. And when you take your foot off the rear brake, some 200+ pounds of bike is going to start sliding down the hill; the front brake alone won't hold it. So while fun to ride, the bike is not much good on the trail, if the trail has any steep hills ...

A lot of folks swap out the gearing to a 13t front for better trail performance (but it throws off your speedometer)

Got the same 2023 - one pointer according to manual is to check oil level with dip stick NOT screwed down. Thanks for the video - I’m at a hair over 500 mi. so my first change soon!

Thanks for posting this. It gives me the confidence to maybe do the first service on my ‘23, myself. I’m sure I’ll rewatch this a time or two before getting after it.

Great video. I have the 2023 green and just bought the 2024 yellow (came with the oil pretty low, just like I've seen others report). One suggestion to save cleanup is to put a piece of cardboard behind the chain when you spray the chain-lube. Tires and rims are a pain to clean up from oil. Keep these videos coming!

I'm a new subscriber here. That was a nice tag line, see what else is brewing. I liked that. One tool you might find useful on that oil filter and on other things is a cotter pin puller. It's like an ice pick with a hook on the end. I thought it was interesting that you sell the tea bush seeds on your website. I've wanted to try my hand at those ever since I visited the Savanah Tea Plantation several years ago. Thanks for your videos.

Nice video. I like to run the motor after I add oil and recheck the level after oil has cycled thru the filter. Also, I like to sit on bike to check my chain trnsion...tension. def don't want it too tight. IMO

You forgot to wipe up old oil inside filter housing before you installed new filter. Might be "finicky" but it only takes a second to do. Otherwise, nice vid.

I forgot: I clean my chain after every other ride, or sooner if it's really dirty. And, unlike 99% of the owners in the world, I clean my chain with Easy-Off which acts quickly and works fine, easy to find and cheap. Then after a few minutes I spray with water, let it dry while driving to some location, then spray chain just before riding, cuz it's dry by then. And I often wipe chain with a rag just to see how it's doing. I bolted a milk crate to back rack. And I mostly ride mine on gravel roads, and a few trails that aren't too tough. I have to tie ropes to my Honda when parked on some dirt to keep fierce wind from knocking it over, which has happened twice during wind storms (SE Utah). I anchor the ropes to nearby fence posts. I removed the right side mirror as unnecessary. And I got it licensed for street legal because, in Utah, it's cheaper than "off-road" annual permit. Mine's the yellow 2024 model. It came with those stupid highway tires and I very soon put Shinkos on it and it does better in sand and loose gravel, though the tires are a bit narrow for a real trail bike, in my opinion. Otherwise it's a fun ride.

nice video thanks !!! im about at this point myself ( about 100 to go ) i really appreciate the back end of this vehicle ! we have come a LONG way since my 78 50cc. i really like the upgrades you have done as well very nice ! ill be lookin at accessories in the new year myself and one thing i am heavily leaning towards is the brake pedal cover ! ( so i can actually use the rear brakes for once ! ) i had forgot what it used to be like on the 50.... the one thing i would change IF i could ? i would have the front brake on the left side !!! in that way i could control/handle the bike much more safely and easily. ( this bike is more then 2x my actual weight so i cannot and have not even got it on the middle stand even once let alone being able to kick start it. ) next year im going campin fer sure ! :)

( main diff engine size and the body flares. ) i love my bike and i gotta also point out you are one of the ONLY ppl in a lot of videos that like me declared right up front this is MY bike and its for LIFE ! :P

Dam the oil filter for the 2021 model is internal. Thought this would be the same

Pretty easy to get to the filter on the 23 - I’ve never dealt with an internal filter, so wouldn’t know much about those.

the amount of oil should be 0.85 liters with oil filter.
