      Me too. I have it on right now. Of course, there are many elements of the finishing that are better than the Pagani. But there is nothing that justifies a $15,000+ difference on price. Rolex is wildly overpriced and overrated. I got my Pagani for $65. Two things do bug me. The cyclops magnification is too big and it’s hard to read. And the metal band was too big for me at the smallest I could make it. So I switched to a silicone band. I might try silver mesh. But I love the watch.

      Your math is correct, but there's a bit more to the full pictured. The R will appreciate in value immediately by 5k due to the wait list. You could therefore sell it, buy several Ps and keep the difference. You would never get back what you paid for the P however since you paid next to nothing for it, that's probably not a bother to you, and in time you can of course do a lot of other things with the money you paid for the R long term. Since the R will need to be insured and serviced, that too is a consideration. There's something to be said for each, however on balance I'd reckon if forking out thousands isn't something you can easily afford in the sense you could do other things with the money which are important to you you're better off with the P. Since most of us (me included) fall in that bracket, I got one!

  • @phalanger1
    @phalanger1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

    Taking the prices into considerations along with the quality, the Pagani is much more impressive. 200x price difference and you'd struggle to find real differences without a macro lens.

    Interesting that you used the word "worth." The Pagani is certainly "worth" 75 euros but is the Rolex really "worth" 15K euros? "Worth" and "cost" are not necessarily interchangeable words.

    I bought this watch from Amazon for $86. It came in 3 days and has been keeping accurate time for the past month. If it only lasts a year, I will just buy 200 more and wear each one for a year. Since I am 70 years old this will leave Pagani Design watches for probably the next 5 generations of my family. A luxury watchmaker once said you only own their watch to pass on to the next generation. Well, I will have done them 5 times better.

    Bought the Pagani on a Jubilee bracelet with the updated Seiko NH35. The watch arrived damaged with the top of the lugs marked. The bracelet was also poor being very light so I bought the Pagani Oyster bracelet (£14). You get what you pay for. The biggest issue I had however was the alignment of the dial. It was poorly misaligned making the bezel even more pronounced offline. The bezel action had lots of back play and was easily accidentally moved as there was little resistance. The lume was also naff. I’ve had several Pagani watches in the past and they’ve been ok. Sadly this was the worst I’ve ever owned. Just hope it was a bad batch because QC should have picked up the many flaws.

The subdial seconds tick but the second hand has a sweeping motion when the chronograph is turned on. I would looooove to have the Rolex original version as it’s my grail, but for the quality, the feel on the wrist, and just the looks.. I’m more than happy with my parnis ❤️ these watches give us the look without breaking the bank, and without being a fake by putting Rolex anywhere on the watch. I believe in paying money for quality. I do. But that is a ratio, not a nominal figure. Pagani design is not the very best of the homages, but it is up there near the best. And they sell these sapphire crystal, automatic 2100, 316L stainless cased watches..for less than a hundred bucks.
    Sure the actual Rolex is better. But is it $15,000 better? No way. That's about $2000 for the quality, and $13000 for the name, so you can impress your friends.
    Further, it is better in areas that really don't matter. A 4HZ movement (I assume) instead of 3HZ...so your second hand beats 8 times every second instead of 6? Listen, you have a better eye than me if you can put a 4hz and a 3hz watch side to side and see the difference. White gold around the indices instead of stainless? Yes, you will remember such things every time you look at your watch...for about the first two weeks. Then, as soon as the honeymoon is over you will never think of it again. But you WILL be thinking of the 15 grand on your credit card for a LONG time to come.
    I COULD spend 15 or even 30 grand for a Rolex right now, as soon as I finish typing this. I am not wealthy. Anyone with decent credit could do that. There is a credit card in my wallet that COULD spend that kind of money right now, so I could do it without even having to apply for a new loan. But I JUST DON'T SEE the value I would get in return. I could buy a Rolex, but I won't buy a Rolex.
    I have a submariner homage made by steeldive. I actually have the homage watch featured in this video (Mine is the Pepsi). The most expensive piece in my collection is an $800 Hamilton (beautiful watch, by the way). I am going to the beach soon, and when I dive in the ocean, bet that I will have a Vostok on my wrist. I BUY WATCHES!
    I have access to 15 grand in credit. I am a watch collector. Hell, let's be honest, I am a watch addict. I am the guy that will buy your watch, if he sees the quality ratio. So Rolex...come on buddy...SHOW ME 15 grand worth of watch someday, and I am the guy that will buy that.
    But I have not seen it yet.

    It’s pretty clear with all these comparisons and with my own experience, Rolexes and most of high end watches are just not worth these inflated prices. It’s really a matter of rich folks having so much money it has no value to them but to the sellers, resellers , and marketing folks the Rolexes are worth all the money they can glean from their prey. Go figure.

    While there are features of the Rolex that I would like, the 24 click bezel is a deal breaker for me. 120 clicks lets me use it as a minute tracker OR a time zone tracker. 24 is only good for time zones. These kinds of "you will use it the way we intended or not at all" decisions are why I choose Microsoft and Google over Apple. While the internal mechanisms are technically superior, the interfaces are unusable.

      Rolex is not expensive because of its quality, Rolex is expensive because of its brand prestige and because people are queuing up for years to buy their watches. One problem with the Pagani Design homage watches is the date window magnifies the date too much, making it hard to read. Kind of looks like a Rolex, cheap but fairly accurate Seiko movement, which may be better than the Asian copies of the Rolex movement.

    .... and that's why you mustn't forget to always carry a 10x loupe when you leave the house with your Rolex on wrist... ;)
    Seriously though: I think, perspective-wise, that's one of the best macro-shots of the bezel insert I've seen. Really lets you see just how precise the numerals are etched/cut into that Rolex bezel.
    Is all that worth €9,000 MSRP or even €15,000 to 20,000 on the grey market? I don't think so. I think Rolex has overdone it quite a bit WRT pricing - back in the day they were still expensive objects, but nowhere near as expensive as they are today (compared to an average income). Always interesting (or frustrating) to see old sales receipts from the 60s, 70s or 80s, then using a purchasing power calculator to find that, for example, a GMT Master in 1960 cost you around $1,000 in today's money.

    • @Horologique
      @Horologique  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know mate, it's awfully frustrating 😤.
      And the best part especially of those 60s Rolexes is that they could and some were used as tools.
      Indeed, nothing justifies those 9k price tags but the luxury positioning of today. And yes, the market tells us that even if Rolex rose those prices to 15k people would still buy them 😱

  • @willbrink

    I can't understand why anyone wants to wear a knock off of a watch they can't afford/don't want to spend the $ on. There's a ton of great watches for very reasonable cost that are unique looking, or at least not a knock off. In my view, there's a difference between an homage, a knock off, and a copy. Some seem to use "homage" and knock off interchangeably. I don't.

Granted when you buy a Rolex you’re buying status and making a statement backed by a prestigious name, but at the end of the day, it’s a stainless steel watch. There is another you tube video that shows a Rolex gmt Pepsi colors under the microscope and the hands are imperfect , the paint is off and there is lint and dust under the glass.
