Back in the day when this song hit the air ways. Relationships sometimes were short lived. I love the lyrics as much of the vocals. Although I am now 72 I still love this group and spent many nickles in the jukebox playing it over and over.

Came to this song due to working on a sermon based on 1 Cor 16:13, "Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong."
My husband just died about 3 months ago. He was a man's man. He was loud, over 6 foot and wore a cowboy hat. He could come off as intimidating but he had a heart of gold. He helped those that others would not give the time of day to. He was friends with the friendless. He defended the weak. He loved me fiercely and would have laid down his life for me. He loved all whether they were loveable or not. His acts of selflessness brought others to tears. He truly did unto the least of these. May I Walk like a Man like he did in his life.

I went to see the musical in Sydney Australia twice, first with my wife, and the second time we took her parents. Afterwards we were having a coffee nearby and one of the performers walked by, and everyone started clapping. It was so great.

The thing is these guys grew up on the same root as rap. Rhythm and blues is the soul of American music regardless of idiom. I remember seeing black kids and white kids singing this song in the subways of New York. A brotherhood of song.
