The original antagonists for this movie were actually supposed to be the Chinese and not the North Koreans, which is why the military uniforms look like Chinese military uniforms. The emblem for the North Korean military looks very similar to the People's Liberation Army emblem, but the symbol in the middle is changed. The antagonists were changed to the North Koreans in order to get access to the Chinese box office, but the film still wasn't shown in Chinese theaters.

@@theillogicalthinker7790 At least the 80s Red Dawn's Scenario made more sense. NATO collapsed, a more powerful USSR and Warsaw Pact, Use of Nukes to Weaken USA and a sneaky invasion scheme. Even with all that the film does say the War has stalemated now that the USA has worn off the shock and awe. This though is beyond silly for even a alternate scenario universe.
Emp. US would suffer from such attack. Power is pivotal, Americans are accustomed to luxury and comfortablilty, it would be devastating honestly. North Koreans can't pull this off but a certain country that unleashed a virus on the world could if they really wanted too
@@ArthuriusG99 They can’t at this very moment given they lack a blue water navy. Their amphibious landing force is exclusively made for Taiwan not going all the way to the US. They’d also have to fight all the way through the islands like Guam which would give time to prepare the mainland, it’s not like we’d be unaware something is going to happen. Nuking the US would not go without consequences from other countries too. The economic consequences for China would be massive. The US has early warning radars and the ability to intercept ICBMs. You’re ignoring a lot of nuance. Militaries around the world for decades have made everything capable or withstanding an EMP. Yes it will effect certain civilians however there’s plenty of people who could thrive in a scenario like this. There’s plenty of veterans and people who are just generally good with firearms and survival.
The Koreans are lucky Chris Hemsworth didn’t summon Stormbreaker and singlehandedly defeated the army

It's always these Hollywood bad movies where US is invaded by a military either Russia, China or NK, the whole nation falls and then a group of resistance fighters heroically emerge from the ashes and, with american flags heroically flying everywhere, they save the entire world. It's so cheesy it's insane. Just a few days ago Mystery Recapped did a movie where the Chinese soldiers were killing the americans and every comment was saying something like "cCp PrOpAgAnDa"

Fun fact: North Korea may have a mass amount of troops, but they have little to no supplies and still use weapons from the 60s. An invasion on america or any other world power would be basically impossible

There's a province in North Korea where people have become midgets because of generation long famine caused by government as punishment, you may ask what was their mistake, they just didn't gave their crops/produce to the central government and started trading it within themselves which maded their province like a free market economy and that was the red line for the government.

@@byrnebyrne2173 I know a guy who is a analyst on a defence think tank, he went to North Korea and saw it for himself and wondered what happened with them and did some digging and came up with all the information above. You can also hear it from north Korean defectors, one them told that in some places sometimes they literally have to eat mouse and stuff, their hospitals don't have anesthesia so they have to operate without it, the situation their is really horrible.

I remember this movie. Based on a book series I think that's actually supposed to be in Australia. There's multiple books in the series that go quite a while after the movie.

To be honest I don't think that even with the economic and world situation given at the start that North Korea would be able to invade and hold the US given the amount of firepower in civilian hands. Even with Chinese or Russian back up the American people would provide so much guerilla activity that the lose of men and equipment would have the invading forces retreat. The Japanese retreat in the Man in the High Castle is a good indication of this.
There's an Aussie film called Tomorrow When The War Begins (I hope that I've remembered that correctly) which gives a better representation of invasion and resistance.

I think that had a similar ‘behind the scenes’ story this film. Essentially both the film and game were meant to depict a Chinese invasion of America, but the producers were worried about offending the Chinese censor board. So they changed the Chinese to North Koreans, turning the backstory from being somewhat plausible (on paper) to being just plain ridiculous! (I.e. North Korea just decides to ignore South Korea, Japan and the Philippines’, and launches an airborne invasion of the US West Coast.

I love that they refreshed Red Dawn, but the one thing they didn't do that would have made this even more fitting to the times we live in, would be the army of preppers and their fucking ability (and absolute existence of) civilians who have anti tank, ground to air missiles, military grade weapons with enough amo to give every man women and child a good chance even with spray and pray methods.

This is the story of Afghanistan. Where America invade Afghanistan and the rebels (Taliban) were adamant of ending American occupation. They presented it the other way around.

This version is good but I like the 1984 version better.
There is only one team fighting against enemies. First 5 mins were good, but later on it was difficult part for writers and directors.
