GRRM tells his stories so "matter of fact"... If you didn't know this was fake...it would be easy to believe all of this shit is non-fiction...I love this guy
Well, some of what he's describing do have their parallels in history. On the matter of taking Theon as a "ward" or hostage, for instance, when Stephen of Blois fought against his cousin Empress Matilda for the English throne, his side took William Marshall, the son of the leader of Matilda's forces, to guarantee a truce. The father, John Marshall, immediately broke his word, saying that he could sire more children and Stephen was faced with the dilemma of needing to hang the boy. (He decided not to in the end and instead cared for him, but still, the threat was there, as with comparable situations in history.)
I can't prove this, and given that she's dead we may never know, but I have suspicions that Doreah was a mole and actively tried to create tension between Viserys and Dany. That chapter where she told Viserys that Dany "commanded" he join her for dinner when Dany specifically said "ask" him to join her "if it please him" has always nagged at me because that's a pretty sizeable mistake. I think Doreah was spying for someone on Robert's council, but we're supposed to think Jorah was the only source of information. Specifically as it pertains to Dany's pregnancy. What was is Barristan tells Dany later... "...since the day you wed Khal Drogo, there has been an informer by your side selling your secrets, trading whispers to the Spider for gold and promises." First, Jorah wasn't the only person who entered into Dany's service on her wedding day. Doreah did as well. Second, Jorah didn't spy for gold or promises; he spied for a pardon so he could return home. Doreah on the other hand, a sex worker, could be bought w/gold and promises...
@@janhalouzka8582 Thanks. It goes even deeper. If you dissect the scene where the council deliberates Dany's pregnancy, the entire thing is written pretty ambiguously. Nobody names Jorah as the source; in fact you get the impression that the council had been discussing the matter prior to Ned's arrival. But as soon as he gets there NED names Jorah as the informant and questions the accuracy of the report. Varys simply says Jorah wouldn't lie to him and that the report is true. Not that Jorah was the source; just that Jorah wouldn't lie and that this intel is good. So again, Jorah is seemingly implicated but there's enough wiggle room for Varys to be talking about two different people. Jorah doesn't lie when he does report, and the pregnancy tip is also true. Doesn't mean Jorah relayed it.
Well, many readers think that Marwyn, Mirri, and Varys are all in league together to bring dragons back into the world through a series of specific rituals so Doreah being a spy wouldn't be out of the question for that theory.
@@god47398 I believe that about Marwyn and Mirri, but not Varys. He hates magic and its practitioners so I personally don't see Varys joining leagues w/those two to bring magic back into the world.
This is why I think that Theon is one of the most tragic figures in all the books. He's been a hostage most of his life and was not able to develop a healthy sense of self or of where he belongs.
Yeh exactly which is why his some what betrayal of the Starks, (after Ned’s death) in trying to take control of Winterfell worked against him. It was the opposite mistake Ned made! While Ned mistakenly heald on to his honor while not considering other such as the Lanisters had plan of their own, Theon betrayed his honorary title as a Stark to take Winterfell not considering others such as the Boltons had plans of their own. Theon could have have helped hold onto Winterfell for the Starks and the men of north being loyal to Stark would have backed him. But no, Theon feeling the insults of his father and sister left him to prove his loyalty to the people of the Iron Islandswho wouldn’t protect him all the same. Theons lack of identity and Ned’s disposition tward honor lead them both wide open to betrayal. In this world people want what others have and they fight for survival, it’s unlikely a name that doesn’t carry any weight in Theon’s case or simple sheet of paper in Ned’s case would stop anyone.
Na tragedy is bad things happening to good but flawed people, Theon storry about is hybriss, but it's more like a penance and redemption narative like Jamie Lannisters.
It's George's creation, it's his world, and he made all the names, but he says he doesn't personally hold to specific pronunciations very much. He has no problem with people pronouncing words differently than he does, and me personally I think dothraki, as in "Doe-Thrak-Eee" sounds better than his pronunciation of "Doe-Thrak-Eye". So I'm gonna keep pronouncing it that way. But that's just me.
I was thinking "Why is he misspronouncing dothraki?" But then I realized that he wrote it and it's probably that the show decided to pronounce it differently
I think the show pronounced it differently to make them sound more exotic or maybe even savage. I have see language pronounced in a way to over empathized certain parts of the words to make them sound more gutterish, it as if they are trying to speak Klingon.
Yeah, it's also that George has explicitly mentioned that there's no explicit one way of pronouncing the names in his stories, any reader can put his own way of doing it. There's a small humorous nod to that in the show actually in season 2, where Bronn and Tyrion discuss how to pronounce the name of Maester Ch'vyaltar, they all come up with different ideas and at the end Varys shows up and gives his own. Ultimately the implication is that Varys us correct, but that's still only one way to look at it.
I hate wen people do this comparison. Even with the hobbit tolkien wote less books in a longer span of time vs. a song of ice and fire. He also died with multiple books unfinished that had to be completed by others or where compiled with other works just to get his ideas and writings out to the public. People need to really calm down on martin. He's done more far quicker than the guy everyone compares him with and still has a lot to give. Also that doesn't include side projects like dunk and egg, house of the dragon, or the other series' he has written for also.
He did but the only reason ‘The hobbit’ was published was because C.S.Lewis broke into his home and stole his writings. Lewis knew Tolkien would never finish editing it, so he took it into his own hands and arranged for the pair to met only to go and break into his house instead.
The Witcher was also what I was thinking when he talked about how silly it would be if a mage just destroyed an army with a spell. I remember watching The Witcher and I was thinking "What's the point of all these extras?" (the soldiers fighting the mages).

A storm of swords turned 20 Stop appeasing the woke mob on twitter Forget HBO remember your fans who purchase your books
Yes but the HBO version sounds better to me. Pronouncing it the way GRRM pronounces it, makes it too English sounding. HBO made it sound more exotic which was on point in my opinion.
Some guy once told me that 'Kinslaying' is seen as one of the biggest crimes in Westeros, and if a Lord that has a family member being held hostage somewhere starts a conflict, he is essentially killing his own family member, thus becoming a Kinslayer - indirectly. It's just a theory, but I like the logic of it. You won't start a conflict with someone that keeps one of your sons/daughters a hostage. Doing that has a chance of killing them in response to your attack, and you can only blame yourself for the death of the son/daughter.
It's written in Martin's canon then kinslaying is one of the biggest crimes of Westeros, it's part of why Bloodraven is hated by many, as he killed not only his brother Daemon Blackfyre but two of his nephews.
@@fandemusique4693 Maegor was hated for killing two of his nephews(Aegon and Viserys), which lead to all of Westeros finally turning against him, after initially tolerating him.
He’d reluctantly do it if there was no other option. Book Ned was described as something like respectful and courteous towards Theon but never loving or caring probably because he knew he might have to execute him someday so it’s best to not get too close as that would make the decision harder.
He won't 👍. killing kids is one thing he hates the most. he will put him confinement or maybe send him to the wall. but he won't kill him for something his father did.
@@greenboots_4661 the whole point of taking theon hostage is to prevent balon from rebelling. If he still rebels anyway then killing theon is pointless because balon still rebelled knowing that his son was a hostage and would likely be killed. So at that point you might ass well let theon live b/c he's no longer valuable as a hostage
@Hideo Kojima @Hideo Kojima oh. i am always confused with ages. in the show theon looks the same age as jon so i thought he would be equally young in the books. in any case i dont think he will still kill theon. How is killing a son for his father's crimes a honorable thing ?
I think there was also an issue with Viserys only had Danaerys just as Robert only had Ned and eventually Cersei only had Jaime...but being the Beggar King he was and her coming into her own like she did, he was instead following her rather than her following him as well as he thought he was too big for his britches
On magic: The Legend of Huma and the books in the Malazan Book of The Fallen handled magic perfect (for me). The mages and wizards were used as heavy artillery in large troop engagements. Each side had to use protective magics to counter what was coming. During all this, the troops on the ground (dragons in the air in Huma) just had to trust in the magics of their wizrards to keep them safe. It was really well described.
Interesting, thanks. There have been hints that Magic is returning to the world. So it may be the case that a hypothetical seventh GRRM book would feature a more high-magic world. But at this point, I don't think we're ever going to see that.
Interesting what George says about having magic but not exaggerating on it, or it'll just overwhelm the plot and make it nonsensical. In the books Dany escaped the House of Undying running, after Drogon burns some of the warlocks and is saved by Jhogo and Rakharo. She conquers Astapor being tricky and using the unsullied, burning Kraznys is just a detail. Also Drogon definitely doesn't come to rescue and protect her at Daznak Arena, but rather is atracted by noise and blood and just adds to the chaos. Same of Rhaegal and Viserion in the 2nd battle of Meereen. George never intented her dragons to be used as deus ex machina, not until now.
I love how he uses real political schemes in medieval Europe. Like giving your daughter/sister for marriage or having your children taken as hostage by your enemy. This is what makes his story so fantastic and beautiful, regardless of any dragons or white wakers is grounded in reality.
That's not just a European thing. Inter "royal" family marriages are a thing among pretty much every culture in the world. The ties of family, clan, tribe, have been used to cease agressions since man kind started congregating in larger groups and competing over resources.
@@ZuluBill Nah, I head that GRRM is pretty methodical in his storytelling, and everything he does takes much longer then usual. If he did the books, they would never be finished
You know the funny thing is, I didn't even really notice how little magic actually showed up in Lord of The Rings until I saw the deleted scene with Saruman on his tower when he shoots a literal fire ball at Gandalf and company. And I am like holy shit, they can do that? I mean they used force powers in their last fight lol.
About the powerful army destroying wizard, that's why the other side brings an equally powerful wizard to counteract their spells. That being said, I do thoroughly enjoy fantasy worlds where magic is rare because it makes the moments when there is magic all the more epic.
Sure, but in such a world, smart rulers would spend their resources not on raising large armies but on opening wizard colleges. And that world would look different from GRRM's world.

No, Martin is just being a curmudgeon. He was still writing on the show and working with D&D when most of the Dothraki stuff was going down in Essos - they even had a guy create the Dothraki language! And nobody - _nobody!_ - ever said "Dothrak-eye" until now, when he's doing this foolishness. If this really was the case, do we not think he might have mentioned it to the writers, actor and Dothraki Linguist in, oh I don't know, say season one episode one when they were first mentioned by name? Just like he's now pretending it's "Bar-lon" Greyjoy when everyone has been calling him "Bay-lon" Greyjoy without correction all these years! It's clear that the visions of he and D&D diverged long ago and he's none too happy about the way the show went, but this is just petty.

That's why they fight platoon style in Eberron, i. e., In Eberron the armies don't fight in line infantry, they converted into 'united' infantry, which used wands and staffs for firepower and skirmish tactics.
i think in his world it could be an issue. but it depends on the scale of the setting/universe. in D&D becasue there are crazy arch mages, liches and gods literally walk the earth and exist in their realities, etc you need a balancing factor. BUT because its all there, they keep themselves in check. Gods cant just kill servants of another god. i mean, they can but they dont cuase of what will happen to them, etc. in battles, arch mages fight demons etc while soldiers fight the other foot soldiers, etc.
I like how David Eddings handled magic. It can be used but there is a price. The more you use it, the more it wears you out, and can even kill you. Or even starting a storm can change weather patterns globally and can be disastrous.

GRRM is a great writer still, but I also feel like his style ended up being a little too predictable. I understand "no one is safe", but it also ended up being "New people who are interesting aren't safe, and these core people WILL be safe until the end at the very least".
Why assemble an army when you have a sorceress who can wipe them out? That's a fair point. Taken from Sapkowski's Witcher books which have a lot of magic, sorcerers fight on both sides of armies. He does magic very well and takes care to explain the limitations and consequences of using magic. You could also view wizards as nuclear missiles, essentially serving as weapons of pacification. You don't assemble an army because you know the enemy will use a powerful wizard against you, and vice versa.
To me Drogo was going to give him Yi Ti, Drogo was heading east of Vaes Dothrak and the only thing east is the Bone Mountain and east of that is the Plain of the Jogo Snai and Yi Ti To me it makes sense as the Dothraki are base of the Mongols and they conquered China, also when a Nomad tribe conquer a kingdom they usually didn’t crown themselves kings but put a loyal person in the throne who would pay them tribute, Viserys would have become the emperor of Yi Ti and maybe taken the title of Ruby Emperor
I confess....I usually can't watch deaths in movies/tv shows (animtated or live action)......but I ENJOYED watching the deaths in this show.....particularly, Viserys, Joffrey and Ramsay. I relished their pain.
wow. Love his talk about Tolkein. I find the films slightly harder to stomach (LOTR) because that small amount of 'magic' is largely removed (Bombadil, Beorns animal speech and sheep who carry dinner). Felt it lost that slight 'whimsy' for the sake of large-scale sale of the film (to my detriment, to many others joy).
His explanation on using magic in fantasy makes totally sense. This was the mistake of the 3rd LOTR movie where basically the whole fight of gondor to defend their city as well as the most epic scene, the ride of the rohirrim, basically became totally pointless after the dead arrived and kicked orc asses. I mean if the rohirrim arrived like couple of hours later the battle would still have been won without a single rider dying...
Firmly established rules of magic, and its limitations, are important. However, I find the lack of magic in most fantasy fiction to be unfortunate. It's so rare that we see these epic chess game-like mage duels as combatants weave offensive and defensive magics against each other to awe inspiring effect.
I agree when I first got into Game of Thrones I thought there would be more magic. I thought the Maesters would fulfill that role of Wise powerful mages. Even more than what we’ve seen, from Melisandre. It would have been awesome, even Mage vs warrior fights sword vs sorcery. I want to see more. I could see Characters like Sam, someone who had been seen a coward, not quite a physical fighter, come to realize a he possess a magical gift and grows his power become a powerful respectable mage in the end.
Viserys and Daenarys relationship with the Dothrakik reminds me a lot of Peter III and his wife Catherine the Great from Russia. Both were Prussians but once they were in the Russian Monarchy, Catherine chose to learn Russian and incorporate with Russian culture/politics while Peter chose to stick with German and look at the Russians with contempt despite being their ruler. Catherine would dispose of his husband pretty quickly as the common Russian quickly liked Catherine more

I'm sure he was meaning to give readers the same ending, only it would be more elaborate when it comes to character development. I'm pretty sure he had it figured out just like it panned out in the series in rough outlines all along. Btw apart from the fact that the last two seasons were too rushed I loved the ending.
@@blackmamba6046 part of the issue was that he intended for the series to be a trilogy, then after the first book was such a success he was asked to make it a longer series. The next two books came out in quick succession every two years (1996-2000). Then it slowed down after that. Not to mention the nature of giving due attention to many concurrent storylines.
I was just thinking about what he said about being careful when adding magic into your story and was thinking about he would do with certain characters from other stories that was basically all powerful. For instance if he wrote in a character that was literally immortal and could not die no matter what was done to them they would probably find themselves either beheaded and their head thrown into a cesspit and sealed shut or dismembered with their body parts hanging in a thrown room as decorations and their head placed on a spike somewhere and their tongue cut out

I know in the books version Daenerys is the child of Rhaegar Targeryen and Lyanna Stark. She the baby in the Tower of Joy. Because her grandfather is the Knight Bonifer Hasty, she is not inbred like Viserys who is 2 generations back of inbreeding. That why Viserys act the way he does.
@Blackfire we shall see who right the books are coming some day. If you look at the family tree you see that Viserys was nuts due his inbreeding, he is father and his grandfather marry their siblings. Aegon VI had marry a Blackwood.
@Blackfire I suggest you read books and family tree of Targaryens. In the last three hundred years Targaryens did marry non Targaryens. Viserys is his father's son but not Rheagar and the King knew it.

speaking of Theon... the more i think about it, the more i realize it made absolutely zero fucking sense that Ned kept Theon. Look at all the soul searching that Ned had to do to find the conviction to kill a wolf that had done nothing, and look at how he fought Robert over killing Daenarys, he actually gave up being Hand over the command; now try to imagine Ned killing Theon if Theon's poppa violated the conditions of his surrender. It wouldn't happen. I can't imagine Ned using the sins of the Father to hurt an innocent third-party. Infact the only way I can even rationalize Ned having kept Theon so he didn't end up with a Lord who might *actually* kill Theon (Robert for instance.) Just makes you wonder what Old Ned would have done if Pyke ever stepped out of line. Obviously he had to have wanted to send him back to Pyke when he was ready to rule, but it just begs the question how would he have explained himself if he had a hostage and then failed to do anything with him.
Your average father really doesn't want someone to kill his son, even if he suspects that the would-be-killed may be bluffing and there's a big chance that the threat won't be carried out. The possibility of your son dying is still a pretty big deterrent. Plus Balon isn't omniscient. He doesn't have our benefit of being inside Ned's head as we read his chapters. From Balon's point of view, Ned is the guy who started and then won a rebellion. Obviously starting a rebellion killed a whole lot of people. Do you really want to bet that this respected military commander won't kill your son if you invade him? Plus Ned letting the Iron Islanders pillage and rape their way through the North would also lead to a lot of dead children.
Mangakas should take note of the part where it talks about magic, as it's a common resource in manga. Many times, I get lost when they break their own established rules just for plot armor or unjustified power-ups. I'm not saying there shouldn't be overpower characters, but they have to follow their own rules to reach that power, and many simply forget them.
"If you have a wizard who can speak a word and wipe out an army why would you even assemble an army?" He says while his books contain dragons that can wipe out armies with a word 🤣
You can't have a wizard that can wipe out a whole army, then why have an army at all. We can however have an army of the Golden Company and put them outside the wall so a dragon can completely wipe them out with one breath..
I hope the series is re-done one day and, with more GRRM material, maybe they can land the ending this time instead of morphing the series into a dumb Hollywood blockbuster. If it's ever remade, the writers need to keep tabs on the larger movements of that world GRRM created instead of just focusing on special personalities protected by plot armour.
You know, I really hated Viserys for the longest time. He was just portrayed as this delusional wretch, so warped by what he thinks is entitled to him that he was willing to hurt Dany in exchange. He was willing to trade Dany for the throne, for any chance at it really. But then when I think about it, he could have had the greatest hero story of all time, but he didn't - because life is fucking hard. He lost everything in the Rebellion. His royalty, his family save his sister, his mother, everything - and then is forced to live in some foreign land to start again. When Ser Willem Darry died, he lost everything he had left. He went from Prince of Seven Kingdoms to a pitiful beggar in a foreign land. That is brutal. And it's sad that the trauma he endured transformed him into such a delusional wretch of a man.

First, Jorah wasn't the only person who entered into Dany's service on her wedding day. Doreah did as well. Second, Jorah didn't spy for gold or promises; he spied for a pardon so he could return home. Doreah on the other hand, a sex worker, could be bought w/gold and promises...
Damn, that's hella cool
Interesting. It's certainly possible, I'd say.
Yeah. His story is very sad. 😞
Lol poor baby.
@@claspe1049 Agreed. He's definitely had a sad upbringing and I do empathise with him, more so in the show, but tragic character not so much.
Have I been saying Dothraki wrong all this time???
Dothrak-eye
The show is at fault
It's George's creation, it's his world, and he made all the names, but he says he doesn't personally hold to specific pronunciations very much. He has no problem with people pronouncing words differently than he does, and me personally I think dothraki, as in "Doe-Thrak-Eee" sounds better than his pronunciation of "Doe-Thrak-Eye". So I'm gonna keep pronouncing it that way. But that's just me.
No. George is saying it wrong. I say that unironically.
@@ryandempsey4830 bruh
I was thinking "Why is he misspronouncing dothraki?" But then I realized that he wrote it and it's probably that the show decided to pronounce it differently
I think the show pronounced it differently to make them sound more exotic or maybe even savage. I have see language pronounced in a way to over empathized certain parts of the words to make them sound more gutterish, it as if they are trying to speak Klingon.
Yeah only English pronounces 'i' as 'eye'
Yeah, it's also that George has explicitly mentioned that there's no explicit one way of pronouncing the names in his stories, any reader can put his own way of doing it.
There's a small humorous nod to that in the show actually in season 2, where Bronn and Tyrion discuss how to pronounce the name of Maester Ch'vyaltar, they all come up with different ideas and at the end Varys shows up and gives his own. Ultimately the implication is that Varys us correct, but that's still only one way to look at it.
Dothrakeye sounds like miapronounciation.
Dothrakee sounds like an actual exotic word
Nope he pronounced it wrong ! Lol
What struck me about Lord of the Rings is that Tolkien finished it.
He did had 1 more the sequel but it wasn’t started he just wrote a summary I believe or brainstorm and that’s it
I hate wen people do this comparison.

Then you have Warhammer, which is essentially dealing with magic proliferation. Which can make for interesting storytelling if done right.

I wonder would Ned have really killed Theon if Balon got out of hand again?
Wondered that myself but I’m leaning toward yes. If he sees it as duty it’s unlikely he wouldn’t do it.
He is so thoughtful. I love his interviews
Further, I think the "lack" of magic in GRRM books fits the narrative perfectly :)
Interesting, thanks.
There have been hints that Magic is returning to the world. So it may be the case that a hypothetical seventh GRRM book would feature a more high-magic world. But at this point, I don't think we're ever going to see that.
I need a video of GRRM just saying the names of people, places, and things in the ASOIAF universe.

That's not just a European thing. Inter "royal" family marriages are a thing among pretty much every culture in the world. The ties of family, clan, tribe, have been used to cease agressions since man kind started congregating in larger groups and competing over resources.

i think in his world it could be an issue. but it depends on the scale of the setting/universe. in D&D becasue there are crazy arch mages, liches and gods literally walk the earth and exist in their realities, etc you need a balancing factor.

I didn’t know that I needed to hear GRRM talk about Lord of The Rings until today.
Merry Christmas 🎁
I haven't felt this surprised about a pronunciation since Taylor lautner
I was just thinking about what he said about being careful when adding magic into your story and was thinking about he would do with certain characters from other stories that was basically all powerful.
For instance if he wrote in a character that was literally immortal and could not die no matter what was done to them they would probably find themselves either beheaded and their head thrown into a cesspit and sealed shut or dismembered with their body parts hanging in a thrown room as decorations and their head placed on a spike somewhere and their tongue cut out
GRRM "You have the magic under control, Gandalf doesn't obliterate entire armies"
Rebecca .F. Kuang: Hold my Poppies.
All of this makes sense but then again, GOT was a good show until the last seasons, especially season 8 where nothing any character does makes any sense. It was like watching lord of the rings with dc joker being the main character in the last movie.
Genius simile
The character development was very lacking but it was still there in sketches and if you paid attention you would have seen it going the way it went. Should have been more elaborate but the ending was great all in all.
I love how he pronounces Dothraki in his own way like George Lucas pronounces everything in Star Wars "wrong" lol
You do realize GRRM created ASOIAF right? If he says that's how you pronounce it. Well...that's how you pronounce it.
If you have one or more flying, fire breathing dragons against you, why even assemble an army?
Because armies can defeat dragons
@@tirelipinponchiwawa9368 Have you read Fire & Blood?
@@henrikg1388 I currently am ^^, still in the beginning tho
I mean the people of Westeros literally never expected to be attacked by Dragons, Aegon's Conquest was a complete surprise and most people thought Dragons to be extinct before Dany's were born
@@kielanwade5096 yes and see Dorne? Dorne never lost against dragons

Gandalf was very powerful though, he just wasnt allowed to use his power. He was a Maiar, as equal in power to Sauron.
Saruman became corrupt and lost most of his power when he chose to ignore the rules.
That scene in the movie where The Witch King broke his staff, that didnt happen in the books. Gandalf could roflstomp The Witch King.
Someone make George say “Cersei hates the Dothraki”. It will sound very wrong to all of us.
Ser Sigh heights the Dothrak, aye
Harry Lloyd is incredible as Quinn in Counterpart. Viserys’ wig totally threw me off, I never even noticed that it was the same actor.
@Blackfire Aegon VI Targaryen marry a Blackwood.
@Blackfire No she not the sister of Rhaegar. But the daughter but we shall see.
@Blackfire I suggest you read books and family tree of Targaryens. In the last three hundred years Targaryens did marry non Targaryens. Viserys is his father's son but not Rheagar and the King knew it.
2:50 you can easily have this in stories and still have threats to the main charter by having drawbacks and limitations to times he/she can use that amount of power. Sire you can wipe out an.army but I'd your powerless after that any one person can get ya
speaking of Theon... the more i think about it, the more i realize it made absolutely zero fucking sense that Ned kept Theon. Infact the only way I can even rationalize Ned having kept Theon so he didn't end up with a Lord who might *actually* kill Theon (Robert for instance.)
Just makes you wonder what Old Ned would have done if Pyke ever stepped out of line.
So the entire show has pronounced the Dothraki wrong and George didn't bother to correct them?
You can't have a wizard that can wipe out a whole army, then why have an army at all.
We can however have an army of the Golden Company and put them outside the wall so a dragon can completely wipe them out with one breath..
Overlord shows how you can have overwhelming magic and still make the story works.
I don't think the story does 'work' though. It's just a series of set pieces showing how OP the main character is.
The quarantine is showing. George might end up looking like Gandalf in earnest by the time we get out.
This interview was from 2011-2012, so zero to do with quarantine
Holy crap! Is that how you say Dothraki?!
Santa!!!
Nice to see the Bavarian Flag in GRRM‘s background. Greetings from the southeast of Germany!!
Alright George, now where are the rest of ‘em books? !✨✌🏼✨❤️
The books... Do you know what the books are? It's the thousand non-existant pages of Martins ideas, a story we agree to tell each other over and over, until we forget that it's a lie.
so..... 00:15 to 00:18 did he move at superhuman/otherworldy speed instantly? or was that a slight cut?
