But I’m bored and I don’t want to pay for college so I’m probably going to enlist. Gotta work on my weight loss though.
This is the job I hope to get once I join the Air Force because of my love for planes and memorization. My question is where is tech school for flight engineers and which planes would I potentially working on for this jobs?
My dad was USAF radar engineer at RAF fylingdales in England. That was in the 60’s/70’s. Any kind of engineer, he told me, was a commissioned officer. He was an O3 when he took a career change as a math teacher. Has the job become easier or have enlisted personnel become smarter?
Pretty much a lot of these positions and the aircraft navigator positions have been replaced by computers. You can still work both for the FAA in the civilian sector though. I imagine at some point they’ll probably be rolled in with special missions aviator or some new name for the AFSC as technology improves they have found the aircrew positions can be manned by fewer and fewer people. Chances are in the future there will be one person doing multiple jobs like loadmaster, aerial gunner, flight navigator, flight engineer, flying crew chief, boom operator etc..
I've been hearing a lot of conflicting information. Do any current (2024) USAF a/c still have flight engineers on crew? and if so are they projected to be around for the near future?
do it man I played a lot of flight sims growing up and ended up flying on c130s in the air force as a loadmaster. Ended up retraining as a flight engineer. Sounds like aviation is in your blood

Also, couldn't help but notice you're dawning a Nasa flight suit in your picture! Do you work for Nasa now?? If so, what do you do and what trajectory did you take to get there??

In the civilian world, this job went away a long time ago, recent aircraft no longer require flight engineers. But the Air Force flies a lot of very old aircraft, and unlike airlines, the military doesn't care as much about the cost of having flight engineers. So this job will still there for a little while in the Air Force
If you heard the phrase "there is nothing like the smell of jp4 in the morning" or "Another day in paradise", well I said it almost evrry day and it took off and now it is on coffe mugs and T-shirts. Seems someone liked what I said and made money off it. Its all good. Glad they did. 👍
"Human Computer"? A little bit of hyperbole. Used to love arguing with the FE's on 141's and 130's. These people caused more waste of man hours troubleshooting than most pilots.
