    The trim is basically snapped into place onto the nylon clips. Start by sliding the bolt on clip into the trim piece and fasten it onto the bed at the cab. Some masking tape can be used to hold the opposite end. Set the trim on the top tabs of the nylon clips and then press the trim down over the bottom tabs. You may have to hit in the center of the trim with the heal of your hand to get it to flex and go over the tab. When the trim is snapped onto all the plastic clips, install the end trim piece with the screws. Easy Peasy . . LOL

    When tackling a job like this, I try to figure out how they installed it while getting hundreds of these trucks through the assembly line in a day and without scratching the paint. Sliding wouldn't accomplish either of those. So it has to be installed by compressing the plastic "springs" (I think you said they were on the bottom of the clips) and popping the top edge of the trim over the top of the clips. The guys on the line could probably do it in about 10 seconds. Take care. Keep up the good work.

    Seems to me that this would be installed the same way as mounting a baseboard heater cover by hanging the top on the clips then pressing down sharply onto the bottom clips. I'm sure at the factory, two guys had that on in seconds. Got to get Duff some hands.

    I think that is one of the most common phrases heard out of mechanic's everywhere, "this is the stupidest design ever"! Or a variation of that. It's obvious engineers never work on the junk they design. Love your channel so far! You clearly have a weakness for old trucks like I do.

    • @MortskeRepair
      @MortskeRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm guessing the suits upstairs in 1971 wanted to save a few bucks so they went from a time consuming, $0.10 clip with threaded hardware to a riveted on $0.05 plastic clip. And in doing so they basically made it a throw away design and not something that can be easily replaced later in life. Thanks again for watching!

    There is a bolt on steel clip that goes on the front. Once you get that one started, just push the molding in , over the nylon clips, then secure the rear with the tail piece that fits over the light with four screws. Easy as pie!

    • @MortskeRepair
      @MortskeRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhh good to know! I couldn't find any info online with how to do it. Plus it didn't help that my trim was bent. So you start at the front of the bed and slide the trim towards the back of the bed?? Thanks for commenting Peter!

    • @LeeBn66
      @LeeBn66 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MortskeRepair No sliding involved. If the trim isn't too mangled, it should just snap on over the nylon tabs.

      @@LeeBn66 I tried slipping it over the top lip of the tab and then over the bottom but there was no way it was going to go for me. Could have been the cheap clips. But more than likely it was the operator that had no idea what he was doing!

    • @ronniekray6918

      @@hectorortega9131 what you do is through the clips in the bed of the truck and buy a tube of sealant.turn the trim over and smear the sealant all over the back of the trim.then you push the trim against the side of the truck.then find a bit of wood to wedge against the trim and floor to hold the trim in place until the sealant goes off.use a level to make sure trim is straight if you want to be really anal about it.works every time.your welcome hector.👍

    Way easier and way better method to mount that trim like that. Hopefully road salt accumulations won't rot it on the backside but if you spray some water up the underside every now and then she probably won't rust. Liking the old Pumkin Patch truck. Hope you rewarded yourself with a sammich.

    I have 72. Good to know. Why they did npt use the clip with stud for a nut is beyond me. You can reach up under fender and use a nut to hold them on. Your bottom trim has them. In front of rear tire, side of bed. Remove nut and trim comes right off.
