G'DAY MORTSKE, another fantastic older VLOG of yours, that had eluded me, firstly thank you for your time and effort getting the project finished,I'm also more GMH HOLDEN than Ford, but have had two good 4WD Ford's,1= a 1983 BRONCO,with a 351 that I turboed & a 1988 4WD longbed that I fitted a Canadian 300 cubic inch inline 6,both went well, the BRONCO,was good for the gravel roads in Queensland and New South Wales,as could handle the heavy boot, home from local watering hole,160 KLM per hour (100 MPHR) power slides,my Nephew now 25, still recounts many times in the BRONCO, listening to his dad& mum, screaming at me," STOP WE ARE GOING TO DIE", he learnt to always claim SHOTGUN, in front next to me,he says the best times,as I talked him through everything and in back, between "Pants Pissing Parents" the 3P's are his words, was for ESKY( cooler of Sangas), good times, as always, Kindest Regards, Dave McLaughlin Queensland AustraliaP.S.a good name would be "CARROT TOP"!

I grew up with a wrench in my hand. Pop liked flipping cars & I did all the work cuz he lost an arm in the mines....(saved a bunch a guys doin it too)....
I was around 7-8 when I started,...me n pop be laying under cars,....he be tellin me what to do....at around 18 years old I started flipping cars....learned how to paint & weld...built a paint booth in my garage & pissed off the neighbors....I still flip cars every now & then,....but it's just too hard to find anything worth fixing up anymore...Id sooner haul m off to the crusher.....I still dream of all the cars I had...specially my 69 bird......my x wife always told me she loved T-birds...& when I showed her that....she jumped in, curled up on the seat...& wet herself....She was a looker herself....5'2 120lbs....I don't know which was hotter her or the car......Life was good in my young years....
I always said my guardian angel had to beat his wings to keep up...& I bend my knee to thank God I never killed my self in a vehicle.....in spite of the fact I've been 150 mph on 2 wheels, 4 wheels & 18 wheels.
    But those are another story....
Don't loose the garage dude,...keep wrenchin....

Ford bump side is what most people call those years trucks! And yes those trucks are cool and that is a nice one!
Very jealous! Lol …..I do have a 1979 factory F350 4x4 that I’ve been working on for 5 years or so….was sitting in a pole barn since 91 before I got it.
400 motor was blown and sitting in the box! It now has a 460 and I had to do the same with replacing almost every seal in the thing…..sitting around dries them up! Very nice truck to drive ! Rides fairly well for being a 1 ton! I do enjoy the Ford episodes on your channel (which seem to be more and more lately ..lol) Fords are just misunderstood by many! They have some querps like other manufactures but older ones are fairly easy to work on!

  • @hithere7382

When the 400 dies put a 460 with A/C in it! I've been to the Midwest (from AR myself) and y'all get frost heaves in your roads IDK WTF you'd ever want to lower anything. You need all of the sidewall and suspension travel to keep your spines fully OEM and to not launch your dogs out of the windows.

I stared out a Chevy car guy as a kid in the early 70s. Had a rocker stud pull out in my '69 SS396 Camaro going up the old Kingsbury Grade into South Tahoe. Nevada Highway Patrol had it towed and it took me a couple weeks to get the money to get it out of the tow yard. When I got the car back, the 396 was gone. and a 350 out of a van was in it's place. Still had the big long dipstick on it. After that experience, I decided I didn't want to be a Chevy guy anymore. I switched to Mopar, so turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

@MORTSKE REPAIR. About 15 years ago I worked at a machine shop and the plow truck was a 69 4x4 with a 390 and 4 speed. I ended up doing floors and cab mounts and then the clutch went and went to remove the divorced transfer case and both the input and output shafts were seized up tight and would not budge to where it actually held the tcase in place over night. Until I tied the front of the frame to the building foundation and used a skid steer to stretch the axles apart and tada. Had to literally cut them shafts up to fix them. No wonder every bearing in the driveline was shot including the cluth

Funny how every bumpside 4x4 has a 390 according to the owner but Ford NEVER put a 390 in the 4x4 trucks. 360 was it, 352 was available in 67 only, all other 4x4's got a 360 until 76.The 400/351m became standard in mid 76. I've owned 15 bumpsides over the last 27 yrs and every seller swore theirs was "factory" 390,😂

I kind of chuckled when you opened the driver door and the hinge squeaked. I have a '72 that sounds exactly the same when you open the door. But those hinges are nearly indestructible. The doors close so nicely too. And mine also developed a crack in the dash in the exact same spot. It happened during our first freeze in 2012. The dash was perfect before that except radio speaker mesh was broke. All I remember was I got in the truck and closed the door. Heard a pop on the dash and there was that crack! I was so disappointed. Oh well.

I havnt seen alot of your videos but a few & I have seen this truck in a few of those. I had been wondering about this truck. I also have a 71 f100 shortbox 4x4 on its original chassis. So yours had my interest. Especually since I've picked up on the ever so dull vibe that your not a huge fan of Henry's autos. I had no idea it had all this work dun to it! A few things maybey not so much the choice I would have made but it looks like you have dun it right just the same. Looks like a nice solid truck & with all the work you have dun sounds like mechanical solid as well. Nice job man! Nice truck!

A number of years back, a lot of people installed Chevy 350's into pretty much everything. Perhaps because it was an easy install, and you could get adapter kits to put them into anything. They are fairly efficient engines, made good power and easy to work on, except for the distributor being on the back of the engine. But, it was a popular swap.
Personally, I'm a bit of a purist, keep a Ford a Ford and a Dodge a Dodge, but maybe if the opportunity presents itself, give it a try and see how it works.
My dad and uncle both had 1970 F series pickups. My Dad had an F100, which originally had the 360 with a manual 4 speed, and my uncle had an F250 with the 390 and 4 speed manual. Those were the trucks I learned how to drive on. About 30 years ago, my dad found a 70 F250 4X4 High Boy. We're not sure which engine it has, it's not a 360 or 390. Possibly a 351 or 400.
My uncle replaced the 390 in his pickup about 20 years ago, and they swapped out dad's 360 for the old 390. The 360 was never a real good engine, but the 390 did pretty good in that setup.
Bot trucks eventually got sold but Dad still has the F250 parked in the barn. I found an old 1966 GMC C1000 with the I250 engine, and it's currently parked beside the F250.

I am hot familiar with the 351m but have owned a lot of Cleveland's and quite a few Windsor's all sharing the same engine mounts and bellhousing pattern , I have only owned one 400m which I swapped out for a 460 which shared the same engine mounts and bellhousing pattern
There is an early windsor pattern as well pre 64 and a half 260 289
Ford never made things easy I have flatheads Ys Windsor's and 385s now and nothing interchanges don't get me started on 9 inch yokes drain plugs and filler plugs
I enjoyed the GMC walk around that you did with the Pontiac motor in it I wasn't aware they ever did that I have a couple of Pontiacs and have all ways liked the GMCs

    • @MortskeRepair

That's always my line on Fords. They made 3 entirely different 351s and a 427, a 428 and a 429 and almost nothing interchanges! Only oil and antifreeze! And you had better check your owners manual first!

  • @richardbates2367
    @richardbates2367 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I remember I bought what I was told was a 351 modified Ford motor and it ran strong unlike most 351m trucks I seen anyways it turned out to be a.0.40 over 400 not a modified California emissions 79 bronco motor and it had a big cam, my uncle sold it to a buddy who took my idea and stuffed it in a 86 Chevy S10 regular cab short bed 2wd except his a El I was going to use a fully loaded except bucket seat and console and digital dash 88 Chevrolet red and black in the center of the sides of the truck S10 Tahoe.. I ended getting rid of it and getting a more rusty driver 89 Chevy S10 El tbi 2.5 4cylinder 5spd manual transmission with the metal reverse gear
