      Deadly Tarantula Girl WOW! I really respect your ability to do all this, it must take a lot of responsibility and time. I feel for ya. it's not every day an attractive GIRL ( I said it, just ignore it) starts a collection of massive semi-poisonous giant spiders.

    Girl! YOU need to speak on behalf of all spiders! I literally HATE and am TERRIFIED of even the smallest spider, but your perspective (oddly) made me feel sympathetic towards even this giant tarantula. I'm giving you a compliment wrapped around advice - maybe you should teach people about these creatures. PS - I hope her leg gets 100% after the next molt :)

      Wow! That's amazing to hear. By the way, I make it a point to educate about many exotics especially ones who are misunderstood and feared by the general public like snakes and spiders. I'm so glad you were watching!!! I hope you subscribe or at least follow along so you can see and learn more!

    I've heard that t's usually have bad molts due to a high calcium diet, and as you know rodents are very high in calcium

    • @MaritaDeLaPenaDTG
      @MaritaDeLaPenaDTG  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Fusion Exotics - That's so strange. This is the first time this animal has ever eaten a mouse and it was post molt. I wonder if she could have experienced a bad molt from just thinking about eating a mouse. Either that, or it was dryer than normal, seeing that we are experiencing record cold temperatures and so in the process of heating my room artificially the humidity was reduced. Who know, either one is equally likely.

    Love your videos! Just a thought thought wouldn't the calcium in the pinkie's bones have a negative effect on the molting process by causing the exoskeleton to get more calcium than it would typically get from eating invertebrates. Just something I was told years ago when I began keeping tarantulas.

    In the late 1970s living in New York I purchased a Mexican red knee or legged from pet shop after a friend got one. I saw how cool at 17 years old it was a cool pet. I read a lot about Tarantulas. I feed her crickets and weird insects from summer garden. One day I looked into the tank and saw my spider on it's back. I was heart broken. Then I looked over and saw another beautiful colored specimen and was confused until I realized it molted it's skin. How amazing! The old skin looked exactly like a full formed spider. I had my cool pet for another few months until my order sister got very drunk, took it out of it's tank to play around with, then she dropped it. This killed the spider by accident. I live in Arizona now. Found a large brown one in the Phoenix area desert. I wanted to catch him then I thought he was better off. He was as big. at least 7" in dia. I liked those spiders though I hated when they would brush that itchy stuff on you. It was cool seeing spin silk. As I recall it spin a large web in the rock cave I provided before it molted.

      Yeah. They are not bad guys and are actually there to protect us against harmful insects. But what still makes them scary is their unpredictability. If you put your hand in the terrarium close to them and they perceive you as a threat even if you are not, they will strike at the speed of lighting.

  • @bugloverspiderlover8490

    I only feed my spiders live food. Only one or two will eat dead. My Texas brown will literally take a dead prey item and throw it in her trash corner for her old webs and food. I usually feed vertebrate food only as a treat or for plumping up before breeding and after laying eggs. It has to be live otherwise they won't touch it. My spiders are spoiled rotten.

    • @bugloverspiderlover8490
      @bugloverspiderlover8490 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rem my Ts won't eat mealworms or super worms,but they will eat June bug grubs. Also my female Texas brown dropped her first sac last night! Earlier today I fed her a small wolf spider as she was looking shriveled and weak she is being a great first time mom and I hope to see lots of babies soon!

    Should never feed these spiders mice due to the high calcium content, i understand that it is part of their natural diet in the wild, but I'm sure that most of you guys know that high calcium foods for this particular species can cause high calcification of the exoskeleton, which in turn can cause bad moults, it's our duties as keepers to reduce these risks & keep our pets so they can live long & healthy lives.

    I have nothing but horrible luck with Stirmi. They always seem to have problems with molting. The bigger they get the worst the molts go. I lost 2 huge mature female Stirmis last year from bad molts, it's so infuriating...I'm never more nervous than when one of my Stirmi molt....they are however the only specie I have ever successfully breed several times.

    I seem to always come back to this video when one of my Stirmis are molting, or bout to lay a sack....One thing that always bothered me was the feeding of the dead thawed mouse...I take no pleasure in the pain of animals, I love animals, but I just can't conceive of feeding a thawed, dead mouse. Several of my mature Stirmis get a small mouse once every couple months, but the mouse Is alive and healthy. The hunt seems to really keep the Tarantulas happy, and it's pretty much over before the mouse suffers at all...Just my 2 cents on live feedings...

      swaggy swagson I think it was just to give her a boost of protein and other minerals. Since she had a bad molt and is kinda weak, and haven't eaten since, I think it was the best way to gives strength to the tarantula.

    I've never heard of crickets eating a tarantula even at a weakened state. That would be weird as fuck. I know ants can take down almost any bug and arachnids, them things are the Mafia of the bug world.

      +TS Connection - I've seen crickets eat a bearded dragon and other predators and rats chew up huge snakes. I know it's crazy but it happens!

      Crickets will eat/chew on anything, including each other (alive or dead), any enclosure they are kept in they will gnaw at, to bags (paper or plastic), cardboard boxes, etc, leave them there long enough and they will chew their way out.
      All they do is eat/chew on everything and defecate. They are nasty little things when you get down to it. I'm happy to have sacrificed them by the dozen to the Dragon god every other day or so.
      Never been bitten by one myself, though pet store personal has been while counting them out for me. Also never chewed on my Beardie that I ever saw or knew of (no after effects or anything). But I could imagine it happening in some circumstances though.

    Notice how her legs around the knees are all cracked open??? That's because her environment is too dry, and I just made that up but it looks sickly.

      That is actually the hair on her knees, kind of a cowlick on a spider.

    So since spiders basically drink their food through a straw of sorts, their food needs to be made into a liquid. Is their something in their venom that does this or do they put some sort of enzyme in the prey through their drinky straw?

    • @MaritaDeLaPenaDTG
      @MaritaDeLaPenaDTG  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Their venom liquifies the insides of the prey.
