@@evanlecours5612 Agreed, apparently there’s a tactic for each type of bear you encounter: play dead for a grizzly, and pray to God if it’s either a black bear or polar bear
UPDATE: If it’s a black bear, realistically you can get away from it by asserting dominance (E.g., yelling at it, slowly backing away, throwing rocks at it) - it should leave you alone and flee. Just try not to be too aggressive or too quiet around it, otherwise it’s animals instincts are going to detect you as their next meal (especially if food has been scarce that time of the year).
To be fair, that's literally the ideal situation to be in if you're being stalked by a bear. There's no way my kids are faster than me.

My parents took us.. but we had guns on our hips. 15+ years later and we still do, aint that something 😂. Literally just finished our anual week+ family camping trip 75 miles deep in “bear country”, it’s no biggie.

Having been in this situation before, I found that yelling with aggression (specifically "Get the f**k outta here!") worked very well. Whenever I see videos of people yelling "Hey, bear", it often sounds submissive and more like a request than a command.

My mom was telling me there was this doctor who had a lion back in the 70's when I was a knee high and other people would never go near it.. Here I am of course in the cage with the thing trying to feed it she says her heart stopped until the big thing took the food and started licking me. She said it got out once, someone complained and the towns people all hunted it down and killed it even though it didn't hurt anyone.. It just got out. But as my mom says, this lion was huge.

@@jamescool2243 That is the right thing to do if you are dealing with a brown bear. For a black bear the best thing to do would be to get away but if that isn't possible it is better to try to scare it off/fight back. If it's a polar bear the best thing to do is probably just accepting death.

I woke up from my tent once in Colorado and had one sitting there watching me. I did not feel afraid and was calm. I packed my gear and started hiking down the mountain to the river, He or She walked me all the way down! LOL! I never felt threatened, just escorted out of its territory. :) I was alone, but I would have been more like you if I had my family. I love how your Son asked, "Can we play dead now?" LOL! I live in Oregon. I go into whe woods everyday without protection. As you can see by this video, the bear did not hurt the people. There has never been a documented death by bear in Oregon. It's just not that big of a risk.

It’s a Black bear not a grizzly or brown bear. Black bears only want your food, not to hurt you. And even then, it’s rare in most places that they even know you have food. This bear can likely just smell their food and is curious.

The mother did search and rescue the husband and wife met outdoor rock climbing. They both backpack with all of their children and they did everything right in this moment.

@@knottchu6159 they weren’t panicking the kids LOL. Just when a bear is following you you tell your kid to walk faster because you know it’s a bear. You would’ve done the same thing. And when you see a bear you make noise.
@@tyleirain9457 : Understood on all of those points including “don’t run” which the parents said to the kids. However, you could still hear a bit of panic with the Mom especially. Kids tend to reflect parents emotions. Overall, good job though.
