MMA fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan), accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage-or why Outworld's Emperor Shang Tsung (Chin Han) has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family's safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) at the direction of Jax (Mehcad Brooks), a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Kung Lao (Max Huang) and rogue mercenary Kano (Josh Lawson), as he prepares to stand with Earth's greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana-the immense power from within his soul-in time to save not only his family but to stop Outworld once and for all?

Sub Zero cutting Scorpion, freezing his blood then stabbing him and throwing him through an ice wall feels like its a straight up x ray move in mkx
facts. and whats cool is the director is a huge fan of mkx costumes and stuff etc.

@@fullmetalb5241 the original costumes are from the nineties and Looking like Pyjama. The costumes from Part 9 to 11 are the Real ones. Watch the director Interview about the Trailer. You will See that he is a big Fan of the franchise and knows what He is doing.
I am more than happy that they didnt use the costumes from the first or Second game.
They shot this 2 streets away from my house in Adelaide, you could hear the bangs at 3am some times 😂

The fact that one of the main guys from the raid plays subzero, tells me their fighting is going to be insane since he clearly knows what he’s doing. This looks fantastic
Yeah they mention fast and furious, which joe taslim one of the elite bad guy in FF6.
Ps. the bad guys in the raid 1 and 2 fight in john wick 3. Clearly Hollywood now gave more attention for martial arts, which they lost years ago

Bro; he's my favorite. And even though Sub and Scorpion have always been trademarke fan favorites. Scorpion has always kind of taken center stage over the two. Like the face of MK the same way Spiderman is to Marvel. But Sub-Zero STOLE this trailer. Everyone is cool and dope. But seeing his actions I think is what really sold this thing. That's just my take on it.

This looks sic as hell. R rated, action galore, and just plain going to rock. I enjoyed the original movie back in the day but this is what we need for 2021. Just having Hiroyuki Sanada as my favourite Scorpion.
I played Mortal Kombat every Saturday when my dad would take me to the arcade for about 5-6 years straight. But I don't know the lore or any background. I just know the arcade game. So I'm really excited to learn more background and see how this movie will bring characters to life.
This movie isn't exactly the whole background they changed some things and added a new character but some of it is facts. Just a heads up.
Sub Zero cutting Scorpions arm, Sub freezing the blood spatter into a blade, stabbing Scorpion in the back with it and throwing him thru an ice wall might be the most badass fatal blow in MK history
He didn’t cut off scorpions arm 😂 he also didn’t slice in the arm area
@@idark9492 Nooooo look closer, you can see the stump of his hand and then see his arm grow back in the exact same shot as when Sub freezes his blood.
That had to be my favorite moment in the trailer, hands down. It just SCREAMS Mortal Kombat.
If you slow the trailer down he definitely doesn't cut anything off, Sub Zero just slices under his armpit area. The perspective blocks his hand and forearm for a moment but nothing is removed.

Ludi Lin, the guy who plays Liu Kang, played Zack/Black Ranger in the 2017 Power Rangers movie and Murk in Aquaman!! absolutely love the dude.

This trailer sold me on signing up for HBO Max once I get paid.
It's definitely worth it. I've had it for a couple months now and it's one of the better streaming services. I mainly got it for The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire, Game Of Thrones, Rome, and True Detective rewatches. They have a pretty great back catalogue of movies too and now we are getting a theatrical movie every month. We still got the Snyder cut, Godzilla, Suicide Squad etc. I'm mainly ready for that Dune release though.

I'd cast Jean Claude Van Damme, himself. Make it a story about how he fought and won a previous MK tourney, and now he's mentoring new fighters. Similar how Woody Harrelson played a retired, washed-up vet in Hunger Games.
EDIT: And towards the end of the film, we find out that he's been an imprisoned soul for years forced to repeat orientation for new Kombatants. His champion would set his soul free.
Should definitely be Scott Adkins. We've seen a lot of Ryan Reynolds.

guys this reaction is great, I think I have the seen the part the old theme song kicks in more than 10 times now... adam n hector's faces are priceless... i remember as a teenager watching the 1995 film, whenever the famous techno song started, I use to get into fighting stand all hyped up... Man let's gooo, hopefully will get a good first film, aaaaand then F&F-like franchise as augstin brought up 🙏🏼

Fun fact, Sub-Zero is played by JOE TASLIM(The Raid, Fast and Furious 6, Warrior) 🔥 the trailer definitely speaking to the 90’s kids. What I love is the representation of characters (Asian Excellence esp!) and tbh having the top actions stars today imo: Joe Taslim, Lewis Tan, Hiroyuki Sanada and Max Huang (Kung Lao) all martial artists, makes this authentic. I feel like that’s missing today in cinema besides the Wick franchise.

They’re still inconsistent statements within the same movie. It’s either a birthmark or it’s not. If it’s a mark you’re born with, it’s literally a birthmark.
It would make more sense for Jax to say:
“It’s not just a birthmark, Cole. It’s means you’ve been chosen. It’s a symbol of your destiny.”

Btw, using this guy Cole as a default narrator to help guide audience immerse themselves in the mk lore of they’re new but also give new perspective on their take for veteran audiences is a great idea just to tack on to what you guys said!

I'm telling you, if the movie is as good as this trailer or even better. The guys behind the making of this movie should be given a lot of credit. It's like you made a movie composed of how everyone thinks exactly how it should be done. Crispy baby. The casting is pure genius. I was 9 yrs old when the first movie came out and similar to what Hector said. It's gore-ish, it's dumb, brutal, action packed and I love it. This is no family get together like or feel good spread the love movie. If you want hype, pumped up action and adrenaline, this is it right here.
The person Liu Kang is fighting when he uses the fire dragon animality looking move is Kabal (you can see the hook swords if you zoom in) so I feel like there are going to be more characters than we were expecting showing up. I mean considering fatalities will be a thing in this movie you need as much fodder as you can get haha.

Martial arts fight scenes in Hollywood movies have come a long way since the first Mortal Kombat movie. So for a property revolving around fighting, the fights had better be damn impressive. What we've seen in that trailer, particularly the Sub-Zero/Scorpion fight, this movie looks to be living up to those expectations.

That looks absolutely ridiculous and very, very fun. I liked the first MK game back in the day, but I never got that into the franchise so, even without the pandemic, I probably wouldn't go see it in a theater. I ill definitely watch it on HBO Max \though.
No one has talked about a very important detail about storyline. Kung Lao is in it!! Storyline prior to MK1 movie he is mentioned but is the ancient grandfather of Liu Kang, so I believe it will be a combination of a prequel and original MK1 sequel!

The "get over here" didn't land for me after 25 years of listening to Ed Boon shout it, but other than that I loved the trailer. I loved the shot of Lui Kang walking with the sun behind him
I think they went for realism with the getover here, scorpion is suppose to have an accent and it's muffled cause of the mask.
