      ***** He did also describe Icelandic as being "not so much the language of love, more like the language of gutting fish". Great song though, despite my not understanding a word of it.

      Badger737 I am fed up of British ESC commentators. I mean it seems they dislike ESC so damn change them. Even though, I have to admit that some of the non-musical jokes like "Not even Franco's secret service could make this win" (Spain 2009) were good.

    • @andydjbadger
      @andydjbadger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Carles Manrich i Peres I am sure that our presenters (Terry Wogan RIP especially) love the ESC. I have been a great fan for decades but still apreciate the (shall we say) less than deferential comments by our chaps. I do agree that the "gutting fish" remark may have been a little hurtful.
      It really is a British/Irish thing. Here in England many of us enjoy friendly insults between friends and this is our way of showing respect which may appear strange to others. Additionally by not taking it too seriously they may be opening it up to a wider audience and let's face it, over the last few years the ESC hasn't always taken itself too seriously either.
      i do appreciate and respect your comment but feel that Terry and Graham were/are perfecr for us excentric Brits.

      Andy I'm English and I have to respectfully disagree. I watched the 2008 contest through the other week. I believe it was the last one Wogan did? Anyway, he was TOTALLY disrespectful. He even spoke OVER some of the performances. He trashed almost every act. I loved the man, but his attitude towards the contest is exactly why nobody in the UK takes it seriously anymore. Respectful artists and songwriters don't touch it with a barge pole because they think it's this ridiculous awful contest with no talent. The public don't think it's a serious contest. Yeah, it's fun, it's sometimes ridiculous, but the majority of the artists and songs are really good. Sweden keeps winning because the public in Sweden are really behind it. They send their best, because winning or doing well at Eurovision gives an artist a big boost in Sweden and around Europe. Artists in the UK think Eurovision is below them. It's a shame, and it's at least partly if not mostly Wogan's fault and the fault of the BBC. A little bit of ribbing banter is fine, as you said that's our humour... but he went way too far, almost every year.

    Being danish I should have been extremely happy that my country won that year, but I woted for Iceland (again) and I am still very disappointed that this beautiful song didn't win!!
    Iceland have had so many great entries over the years and they truely deserve to win....hope you will send another amazing song like this another time....as always, can't wait to hear what you pick. :-) A lot of love from Denmark

    I am Canadian. I don't speak the language, but the feeling of this song shines through the artist so clearly. I heard this when it was first performed on Eurovision. I didn't even know what Eurovision was, but my Aussie friend was watching it. I fell in love with this song and this performance. I still love to listen to it. So very beautiful...

    Singing this in English would have been an injustice - and I'm from the UK. I don't speak a word of Icelandic, yet this song I really connected with and for me is the winner of 2013. Just so beautiful and haunting.

    This and Estonia, two gorgeous songs in their native languages. Both of them are quite underrated and amongst my favorites of 2013. It's an unpopular opinion, but there are tons of songs from 2013 I still like.

    Iceland always has great songs to Eurovision. Examples are this, or "coming home" and of course the gorgeous Yohanna. The 2012 deserved a better place, and this too.
    Iceland Eurovision should win because, he deserves it.

      @@jazzycat8917 not really. Considering the netherlands won singing in Dutch(x2), Denmark, Italy ×2), Sweden (x2), Spain (x2), Israel (x3), Germany, Norway (x2), former Yugoslavia, Serbia, and Portugal have all won not singing in English or French most (all but 2) before the Native language rule was dropped (ignoring the short 4 year period in the 70s it was not applied)

    I bought the single as soon as it released back in 2013. Still listen now and it's one of my 7 year old son's favourite songs. He is on the autism spectrum and is early verbal but he picks up song lyrics fast and can go days just sing that one song. This song has been a constant go back for him for the last few months and before that he hadnt heard it for a year.

      En Deciliter Tyko Icelandic is a Scandinavian language, almost unchanged from Old Nose in fact. it's not in Scandinavian peninsula but neither is Denmark, I guess we could say it's not in Scandinavia but it's Scandinavian.
