I had such a great time filming this video!! Thanks for having me on the channel again Dom 🙌🏻 I think fords will always be my favourite but there is just something about JDM cars that I love! Watch this space 👀😂
Hi guys, really enjoyed the video. Hopefully I can be of some help here as I have owned a Black FK8 for a few years now and can share my thoughts on the car. First of all I use the car as my dailly so spend a lot of time driving it and overall I can honestly say its an absolutely fantastic machine! I love it and it makes me smile every day. I love the way it looks aswell. Its not bad on fuel for the commute, has never let me down (not one thing has gone wrong with it) and if you find the right road in the dry, its goes like the clappers! Get it passed 4K when the turbo is fully on song, keep planted and then Vtec hits in it goes bananas all the way to the redline. I love the coloured shift lights that come on the higher up the rev range you go and the autoblip downshifts! I found it took a bit of time to gel with the car (coming from a Golf R) its a different approach but once you become one with the car, it is great fun and can be an absolute weapon when you are in the mood. I like the fact that they are so rare aswell, I think I have only seen one other black one! You do get a lot of looks and comments on thr car. It has a lot of road presence and stand out from the crowd. We have two young kids and it handles family life well with the big boot and confort mode. In this mode however the car feels a bit neutered, softer setup on suspension and throttle respone and light steering. Sport mode which is the default setting on the car is the best for daily use I think. All that being said it has no problem on a long motorway run and is comfortable but can get a little unsettled on some of our broken B roads sometimes. Running costs have been less than my golf so no issues there. They seem to be really well built aswell. It is a great choice you have there to make. Lets put it this way, if I didnt have the Type R, I would have had the RS. You literally cannot go wrong with either! Maybe go for the Honda as it is something different to what you already have? Tough choice but whichever car you go with, I think you will be very happy indeed! I am excited for you! 😃
Hi Ed, Thanks for the comments, that's a really helpful review from someone who has had one, and highlights a lot of the reasons I would get the Type R as well over the RS. I'm sure Sammy will drop a response too, as she will appreciate your thoughts to help her. 😀
You are welcome Dominic, glad to help, a few more things I forgot to mention are that this is a driver's car, you sit nice and low and feel dialed in once you get the seating position setup just right. The seats are great as you mentioned in the video. The engine and gearbox setup is supeb. The engine's a peach but the gearbox is the star of the show. The way the thing goes round corners beggars belief. Negatives - In my opinion the satnav and infotainment system are not very good at all and the car does not cope well with potholes!! Apart from that, it's awesome.
Hi Ed, Thank you so much for your comment! It’s so great to hear from an FK8 owner, I honestly really enjoyed the type R as it really surprised me! But I really loved the RS, I have just always loved fast fords so I think they will always have my heart! But I have been thinking about other cars since this video, as Dom will know I am very indecisive 😂 so glad you enjoyed the video and watch this space to see what I get next ☺️
As always, thumbs up for Dynodaze! (Danny?) I am sure you would love to have that car with pops and bangs sorted, a tiny more noise from the exhaust and redo the video 😁
Fk8 all day , i own one and my friend own the focus …. Im having a/c problem when he is having the headgasket problem … reliability the end ! Keep up the work
He has some other minor issues wich were covered under the warranty … dont get me wrong i find it’s a great car, hell of a good machine but i make my living out of repairing ford so… not to say the fk8 isnt without problems! Ive had a couple , but cant compare because ive bought mine used and him bought his rs brand new
I didn’t like the exterior styling on the Civic & didn’t want FWD, so I bought the Focus. The FL5 is just way too big for me. Of course, it’s all personal preference & everyone should buy what they like.
I'm in a similar place right now .. The Fk8 is the car I keep looking at.. An RS doesn't hold much interest and this is coming from 14 years of owning an STI. The i30n and i20n also have my attention as both have good reviews from a driving experience.
We thought about the i30n for Sammy but she wanted something a step up from her ST, and wanted something different. I like the FK8, but also I know the FK2 before was a 2 litre turbo as well and is cheaper, with a shorter bonnet. Always an option, plus I like the quad tips on the FK2.
RS over a civic no questions asked... alot of the time if you get the car slowly rolling in first you can then dip the clutch and it will then rev to limiter
Ford with the Volvo engine and AWD. The com"FOR(D)T" way more better and Sammy feels at home behind the steering wheel. Thanks for a good long video look up on those two nice drives. BR NGK of DK
I definitely need to get another ride in one for sure. Honestly, if I was going to pick one of the 2, as much as the focus is a blast on back roads, I'd probably take the Honda. I'd love an FK8 for a daily for sure. Great for the family, and also for some style and speed! Have you got one yourself?
For me, I'd still pick the Civic. The Ford is better for track purposes and the way it sticks to the road if you went for a blast on some back roads due to the 4WD, which will be Ken Blocks contribution. But for an all round car I prefer the Civic. The space, the looks of the car, the interior, are all better for me with the Civic. Change the exhaust for a little more noise, and it's a lovely motor. Obviously Sammy is different, but I'd love the Civic for a daily. Definitely need to get one out on a dry day for sure.
@@dominichills 5 door only and much rarer than fk8 and fl5 only made fk2 for 2 years and only about 2000 made for UK very raw car to drive and so much fun
4wd drive system coming into play adding more weight. On 2nd to 3rd gear 30mph to 60mph they actually were both on par in terms of time. The RS is just quicker 0-60 because of the 4wd coming into play off the line.

Haha, and there are a few other options that have appeared as well as of late! Exciting times.
The RS is AWD and ready for all road conditions. Street legal rally car. Plus, the RS is rare here in America.
Exactly, and I didn't know it was so rare there.

Great video guys!
Cheers guys, would love another day I reckon in the Honda to see what it is like in the dry as it was pretty wet compared to the RS.

Yeah, that is the only issue I've seen and heard with the Mk3 Focus RS is the head gaskets have been the downfall. The FK8 is a stunner!
And thanks, cheers for watching!

Focus rs is probably the best car to hold it's value.
nice, just picked up my evo 8 the other day, she rips,
Oh nice, can't beat them IMO!
Hmm the type r exhaust sounds kinda weak
I think it's just because of the limiter, and JDM cars do tend to be on the safer side of noise nowadays. A HKS change would sort that out! 😉
RS over a civic no questions asked... alot of the time if you get the car slowly rolling in first you can then dip the clutch and it will then rev to limiter
Ah really? Never knew of that trick! And I can see why, the Ken Block assistance is creating the RS is pretty damn epic!
Cheers from the states 🍻
No worries, and thanks for watching from over the pond! 🤙
I have a rs and it sticks like glue round the country bends unbelievable. Maybe the Honda would be a better daily car.

Are you really happier with the Ford??? Hard to believe.

Get the Ford it matches your vibe better... you seem to feel better with the Ford.
The type R going from an FK8 black to a FL5 Grey Lolol compared to Focus RS is very simple would you preform surgery with a scalpel vs an axe lol
So I assume you prefer the Civic lol
Should try an fk2
I use to have the FN2 Type S ages ago and liked it tbh.
@@dominichills fk2 totally different beast to the fn2 the fk2 uses the same engine as the fk8 but car is smaller

I have a Ford focus ST next up R/S is better 😊
@@cliftonmcintosh6193 nice, you won't regret it!
And the rs is actually heavier than the fk8
Interesting, I never knew that, but then again I spose the 4WD adds some weight.
Ford RS with volvo t5 is FWD
That's the Mk2 right?
The AWD Ford focus RS is a masda engine
@colingaskell9571 yeah so the mk2 rs is the volvo and the mk3 rs like in the video is the mazda engine
Fk8 all day
I agree! 🙌👍
The rs weighs 300 lbs more than the fk8!!!!!!!!!!
