Elegant. Effortless. Humble. 😊
You give me hope!
This was hard! Classic, casual, effortless is where I landed.
Nice! What a great mix. 😉
In my opinion, this concept also applies to home furnishings and decor.
I’d say my words are ‘Comfortable, Co-ordinated & Flattering.
The feel of materials has become more important to me as I’ve got older. Struggle with motivating myself to keep making the same level of effort since retiring but still buy too many clothes! 😮
Love your channel x
Wow, this is challenging! I have such a mixture of styles I go for and feel! As a hairstylist, I love things with some edge - that feel on top of trends - but I also love things that make me feel sophisticated and glamorous. I appreciate classic and timeless clothing and accessories: investment pieces like a good purse or shoes. My biggest challenge? I get bored. I’m a maximalist at heart as much as I admire a minimalist approach to a wardrobe. Oh the agony of not knowing which road to travel!
I’m 42. My style is classic, as the homeschooling mama of a disabled child and a special needs teenager, and moving out to the country to “homestead”, I know my first two words are classic and functional, my emotion word is warm. I best wear warm and rich colors as a “deep autumn”, and even when I wear my preferred button downs, knit cotton turtlenecks and natural fiber sweaters, I want to always be dressed in clothes that 1)are durable and support the long day of physical work I need to do but also 2) help me present and support and a warming presence so people always know they can expect a warm hug and a listening ear from me… probably a bowl of homemade soup, homemade sourdough bread or homemade cookies as well. I most gravitate towards LLBean, Lands End, Brooks Brothers, JCrew and GAP. Would love any advice you have on how to keep button downs, turtlenecks and sweaters worn together from leaning frumpy and how to style/accessorize them best. I can’t wear a lot of jewelry or scarves because my disabled 4 year old likes to pull on them and I have to lift her to move her around a lot so I can’t wear lots of drapey things or things that need to be kept “just so” because I’ll need to constantly adjust, re-tuck etc. I keep jewelry to post earrings, watches and rings. I feel like I’m in a huge style rut and just look like a strictly functional hot mess all the time and it’s keeping me from letting myself embrace being plus sized. My brain tells me the issue is being large and that getting small would fix my problem with looking nice and knowing how to put myself together in a pleasing and authentic way. Help if you can please!
I’m so glad I found your channel. Much needed information and inspiration in the plus woman space. Thank you! When I was working, your three words plus edgy was what I was aiming for each day. As I started to feel the effects of my illness- but wasn’t diagnosed yet, i’ve found myself wearing sketchers to work and having a become an actual accommodation because I worked in a C suite for a president. My body was feeling curled. I was starting to need a walker and it really stripped away. The power that fashion had given me in the past making me feel frumpy less than just before Covid I retired and disability with complications of arthritis and lupus, and a few other auto immune Problems There was 2019 the end of 2019. I’m just now starting to feel like I can trust a little bit when I go out into the world I still can’t wear earrings which you’d be amazed how incomplete look feels without the right accessories, but my body just can’t handle them. I have too much inflammation and it’s very uncomfortable, so making my 5 foot three frame weigh about 240 right now at 57 yo with barely any hair work to feel feminine and beautiful. It’s difficult so thank you for your content. It gives me hope.
Keep pushing! Meditation, plenty of rest, water, and maybe an anti-inflammatory diet may help. Watch Dr. Mindy Pelz here on TH-cam, she posts a lot of content on reducing inflammation through diet. 🙂
Oh my gosh, I have not checked in here forever...and I am thrilled you are doing so well!!!! Your talent and hard work have richly paid off!! THIS MADE MY WEEK!!!! Love to you always!!! Sues
Susan!! Hello there and thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! 😃 I love that you’re loving your new home. And Desi! He’s the king of the neighborhood (or at least the part of it you own, lol). Much love, my friend!
@@Oralia_Martinez I have missed you so much! It's just so comforting to me to be back and see your beautiful face! Great video!!!
Love this idea! I would say my style words are Casual Boho Effortless. I have a carefree spirit, but I want to look put together in an effortless way
Great video! I’m excited to find my 3 words. I aspire to elevate my wardrobe since I’m headed back to the office and love quiet luxury.
I wear stuff I thought I’d like but don’t really.. I want to be classy looking , comfortable but still look like a fun older woman.
You should try a collarless jacket (Chanel style). You can find them in knit these days so they’ll be a bit more comfy. 😉
@@Oralia_Martinez actually my daughter and I found a couple of those at TJ MAXX . The one I tried on was a really heavy knitted one, I live in the south. They had a jacket that was a bit different but not in my size. I tried to talk my daughter into getting her one as she is a real estate agent.
My three word are: Eclectic---Flattering---Fun! At 72, 5' tall and 250 lb. I still receive a lot of compliments on my outfits. I still think a I can learn from experts to update how you style your look as fashion evolves. Thanks for the great advice. ❤
Thanks for sharing!!
Love your style and help can you advise what kind of jacket goes with wide leg casual trousers I bought in stone colour..I'm small and apple shape.. thank you for videos ❤
For me the first word is the most difficult. Up until recently, I had very little clothing, mainly for occasions like work or just going outside. I am very plus size and have difficult body shape, so my wardrobe consists not of what I want to wear but of whatever can be worn by me. I feel like this method implies that you already subconsciously have your style or tendencies that you need to understand and formulate. My second word is moody, my third word is mysterious (or intimidating as a close second option).
You're correct mostly. The first word implies those pieces are a part of a uniform and there's some reason you wear them. Even though you're in a situation that it's all you can find, they still should be incorporated in some way and can be labeled to help define what you wear. The trick is mixing the other two in. Of course, it takes time to really define the three words. It took me a few weeks of pondering and editing often, lol.
Love your videos!
Glad you like them!
love this video Oralia/we all need to improve our style XXX
Even though I am a size medium I just love your videos . Gotten so many ideas how to combine colors .
Awesome! Thank you!
Love this, Oralia ❤
Eclectic polished expressive
Sweet!!
Can you be casual, classic, and elegant? These 3 words came to me immediately.
I would say maybe classic, effortless, and elegant. 😉
can you first word be chaotic or unpredictable?
EMOTIONAL. Abstract indeed and seems contradictory at times. For example: I may feel comfortable in more refined styles which may make my casual friends feel UNcomfortable and underdressed. Treating myself seems to win out, although I do end up feeling out of place at times.
BTW You are one of my aspirational north stars! Thank you!😊
Awww! Thank you! 🫠
Great video Oralia. Much to think about. I look forward to applying these principles.
Glad it was helpful!
I love this it really makes you think thank you,you are those things I think and more
Aww! Thank you! 🫠
Comfortable, Classic, Feminine -retired 61 yr old plus size mom of college kids
Thanks for a great video. I have already known about those three style words. Mine were fairly easy for me. CLASSIC, CURRENT, FUN!! I love a twist of fun in all my fashion because it reflects my personality, and my relationship with my friends.
Excellent!
Hi Oralia
How gorgeous u look, Oralia💥
Another Great video
your wonderful words brought to mind the song We’ve got elegance from the Broadway musical Hello Dolly. Take a listen!
I will!
Hi Oralia, love this concept, as a retiree where life is far more casual, i'm edging towards a classic (which in my mind is more 'formal') but I'm unsure how to fit that into a retired mid 60s women, any suggestions
My best suggestion is that you can wear a blazer or trench coat with anything from formal to casual, and it will look great. Have you ever heard of the 2x2 method where you pair 2 more formal items with 2 casual pieces? I made a video about that last Spring. It’s really good for stay at home situations. 😉
@@Oralia_Martinez thanks for ur feedback
Amazing video
Oralia, thank you so much for explaining this!! I’ve really been trying to think about this and nail it down. I’m having trouble really coming to a final conclusion!
Years ago, I was terrible with fashion. So colorful, everything was a pattern of some sort, no good staples, you know? I’ve worked to make it more classic and timeless, but I feel that classic is too business-y and not feminine enough for me today. I’m 65, an active Nana (cooking, cleaning, projects, picking up kids from school, holiday planning, decorating, etc), retired, so even though I love the classics I rarely need to be in business attire and I really want to soften it up. P
Here’s what I have so far (many more than 3 words!).
1. Timeless (Classically French)
2. Feminine and Romantic (do those mean the same thing?)
3. Easily approachable, welcoming, nurturing
How do you continue to hone it down? Or, do you?
Thanks for your great content!!
PS-this summer (with your encouragement) I braved baring my arms. I’ve always worn [at least] elbow length tops; AND, what a game changer! The possibilities for fashion has opened up! Sooo many more options. Thank you!
Kind regards, Valerie
Hmmm I am coming up with Casual l(soft/gentle) Elegant and Feminine. Sounds weird. but works for me.
Run with it! 😃
What a fantastic video!!! I’m working on figuring out my words. 🤔 I watched Allison’s video too. I’m off to do some Pintresting! 😮😂 I’m pretty sure I have my words but I’m going to think about it for bit! Thanks for the fun!! 🎉
Wonderful! I thought I had them too but after some time with them, I adjusted. Have fun!
Interesting video. I realized some time ago that I have two different styles: one for fall, winter and the office: quiet luxury feminine.During this season I wear pant suits to the office unless I am not seeing clients. On more casual office days I wear tailored cotton pants, cotton shirts and cardigan. In the summer when I wear long dresses and flouncy cotton skirts, that style is romantic/ bohemian on most days. I still wear tailored pant suits on work days when I go to court or have a hearing. I am a lawyer.
Thanks Oralia, so helpful. Definitely the best explanation of the three word method I've seen. Helped me to define my style: natural, put-together, unfussy
So cool! Thank you for sharing.
Love this video! I am going to watch this a couple of times just to fully understand my REAL style.
I think I am a classic style but my closet doesn’t completely mesh with my style.
Once you know your three words, the pieces that don’t fit in will become glaring. 😉
What is the name of your Pinterest page? Love that brown skirt and top outfit (once you have your three words). Details please. Thank you.
It’s my name with 2 underscores in between first and last. Oralia__Martinez. You can also search style & lipstick. 😉
I couldn'tfigure out how to follow you. DO you allow followers/ Also, any details on that brown oufit?@@Oralia_Martinez
Kinda thinking three words per situation, like home, work, social, play, because my first thought with reality word was "functional".
Ponder it for a few weeks, you may be able to pinpoint them. 😉
@@Oralia_Martinez Will do Professor Martinez! 🤓
Comfortable, classic, feminine. My wardrobe needs some help.
Use these words to guide you in doing a closet clean out. Even if it’s only 10 minutes a day, you can get rid of a lot in that time. 😉
Casual, Feminine, Approachable. Not really sure? I've always liked "dressier"
Clothes, but now I'm retired and have no place to wear dressy clothing!! I think as I age, I also feel like I'm losing my femininity, so that's what I aspire to to portray! And I want to be seen as friendly , and warm. I'm not real sure how this translates to a kind of clothing?
Warm can convey in many ways. It can be fun, colorful, approachable (which you noted). It just means you like dressing in an unassuming way. Focus on areas that are feminine - the waist (a belt), the neck and shoulders (a beautiful pair of earrings or necklace), the wrists (bracelets) and ankles. Or maybe wear a beautiful lip! 😉
@@Oralia_Martinez thank you.
Oh dear.. mine are Comfortable, naturally comfortable, soft comfortable…. Hmmmm😂
I am a mess ,sorry
Me too.
I think we all feel that way every now and then!
No, don’t be sorry. Take some time and give yourself grace. And take your time. 😉💕
Very informative video! Who are some folks you follow on Instagram?
I follow Victoria, Lydia Tomlinson, ms. Beltempo, Audrey Coyne, Style with Serena, and banana republic (a favorite brand), just to name a few.
