Not really. You can't heal if somebody or WM herself is dead. That's what Azmo and KTZ combo does. Zarya was the one who prevented deaths and allow WM to sustain them back up.
When you don't have to spam your heals so much due to shielding you can focus more on numbers. You can't tell from this game how good Whitemane is. The stats are unreliable while Zarya lands shields.
I just found your channel and it became my new favorite HOTS channel. Your english is easy to understand, you dont yell, scream, laugh for minutes and this is what i need. Thank you for making good videos. Take care !
Your guide saved my day NotParadox. :-) Played in hero-league today against a kel-thuzad as a healer (LiLi). A second mate was unsure, what to pick. So i sad "Hey, try Zarya with double-shield its a secret weapon against kel. And she/he played it the first time. And guess what, it worked wonderful. Most of the damage was compensated by her. Just wonderful. So thx for that superb guide! :-)
That was a Whiteman hard carry tbh. I love Zarya tho and this a good breakdown, don't get me wrong. It would be nice to give credit to those who deserve it.
Is in both sides. Zarya enabled her to heal a lot with less risk of being caught by Kelthuzad and Whitemane enabled Zarya to get more damage and play more aggressive. It was a well executed draft, both teams were good, azmodan and falstad maybe were the issue, as falstad with gust wouldve been a nice counter play to alarak cocoon. Overchasing killed more players this game than a Kelthu combo and pyro combined.
I don't think I'd call it a "Hard Carry" on the part of the Whitemane. Primarily because the Anub/Zarya DEFINITELY played significant roles in winning. I'd instead put-forth that the Whitemane displayed some EXCEPTIONAL PLAY which made-up for the lackluster performance of the Alarak/Kel'thas. I just watched a 30 minute game, and I didn't see the Kelthas have ONE GOOD combo in team-fights. That guy plays Kel'thas like I do, poorly.
Excellent vid again, Paradox. Zarya is one of my favorite heroes but I often struggle with teammates who don't seem to understand her value. Thanks for walking us through it.
I've watched a ton of HotS content over the last two years, but you're the best out there NP. There's not a single top player, coach or streamer that has your analytic nor teaching skills. It's always a pleasure to watch when you go in depht. Thanks!
5:14 - Live Editing for a youtube video is a mistake, if its a stream, sure why not. But you could easily have brought the info up on screen instantly instead of "sooo... where is...?" while the game is muted. All it takes is Virtualdub and a couple minutes extra 5:59 - Tab screen over the disengage, webpage over the "as you could see" team fight.. Seriously? This is the perfect moment to realise you need to edit the video... 12:27 - Show don't tell, waxing on about that time you did a thing that has nothing to do with the current visuals is more distracting than informative.
Well my eyes bled when i read "zarya solo lane"; i mean for the rest i agree 100% ; zarya is very great against burst dmg from mages but hey in solo lane one of her 3 abilities can't be used; you should let Alarak solo lane and be with team, it would be even more optimized . Just look Paradox, you say at 4:00 "if you dont need to win the solo lane she brings a lot to your team later". I totally agree but its funny because the title of your video is "why i love solo lane with zarya". Its two complete different things to say that in the one hand zarya is great if you dont need to win the solo lane and in the other hand that you love her as a solo lane. Also ... well you're pissed because your mates are being rekt in the early game but yea it does make sens, if you swapped roles - you and alarak - then your 4 man beneficit from a second support and would have enough sustain to just survive the early game and win the late game when zarya really powers up. Being with the 4 man with zarya would also help you stacking faster the lvl 1 talent you picked. For all those reasons i must admit i totally disagree with the title of your video. Maybe if you swapped roles you would win in 20 mins instead of 29.
Starting at level 4, Alarak has to get E stacks, which are far more important than Zarya's Q stacks. Additionally, Alarak's W gives him early game pick potential that Zarya's kit can't provide to the 4man If NP's team feeds without him there, it doesn't really matter at all if he picked Zarya or a "true solo laner", does it? All that means is that his team either failed to draft a good 4man or failed to play well. If this was a Dehaka guide, and his team fed early game, would you be blaming NotParadox and telling him to switch places with Alarak? I really hope the answer to that question is a resounding "no".
Since the XP changes and nerfs, the "solo lane" can be done by anybody. That was Blizzard's intention as they were gutting Specialists because players that liked to PVE with a Spec were "ruining the game for the 3L337 gamerz" that just wanted to brawl. The only time you care about who is in solo lane is Braxis or Shire. Because you want to WIN the solo lane, not just exist. The pro-meta (RIP) evolved to eventually have the Blaze/Yrel/Dehaka "solo laners" because they have plenty of beefy self-sustain to hold the lane (not required to win it on most maps. just holding is fine) while then bringing good utility to the mid-game and late-game teamfights. Essentially, they could do 90% in a solo lane of what Specialists used to do, but bring 200% more value to the teamfights that happen from mid-game ---> end. I mean, towards the end of the pro scene in HotS--- did you WATCH any of those matches? The solo lane was BOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING A F. Because with the XP and Tower changes, you don't even have to bother to kill minions.. Just stand there and soak until 10. All you were doing was soaking XP and making sure you didn't let your towers die. Prior to those changes, you had to actively fight out in the lane to protect your towers because if you let minions get close enough... they would eventually drain your tower's ammo. Making it easier for enemy to take your towers if you didn't babysit constantly. Under that original system, you needed a Hero that could WIN the lane so Specialists often were the go-to. After the changes, any DPS/Bruiser could stand there and soak while taking the small fight at tower for protecting. Then go to a TF later and bring value, while the Syls or Zags of the world only pushed because they were useless in TFs.
With Orphia's release along with QM initial changes, I found myself playing a lot of Zarya due to synergy with squishy heroes, wombo conbo potiential and the more balanced comps. (I had a great time) Look forward to watching the video.
You always make me want to learn new heroes!! I've been working on Stukov, it seems so easy to get tons of value from his talents! Now I want to learn Zarya bc I hate facing KTZ and usually losing to him!!
I could definitely use a guide on Zarya for what talents to pick when. Some have clearly distinct functions, but often times I stare blankly at a few tiers and cannot decide what talents are good or if there are any talent synergies up the tree. Thanks, love your stuff!
Wow... if only there were a search engine on internet to find such things? www.reddit.com/r/heroesofthestorm/comments/76s6uk/updated_zarya_guide_current_meta_playstyle/ www.heroesfire.com/hots/guide/flex-pick-zarya-15219
9:30 you talk about sticking together when Zarya should've peeled for Whitemane & Kaelthas instead of staying inside the obj... you could've easily won that fight if Zarya/Alarak both step out to peel off the kel'th & Tyrael chasing your backline.... Plus.. Whitemane carried lategame, not Zarya after watchimg the whole vid
KT and WM were the wrong ones. Here's the thing about Zarya: she's essentially a turret. If Zarya is having to move, she stops doing damage. The most difficult part of learning to play Zarya effectively is understanding that once you choose to take a fight, she's in till the bell rings. She has no mobility, no escapes (NotParadox mentions that somewhere in the vid as well) and therefore has to properly choose when to engage in the fight. If she chooses wrong, she's dead meat. What this means for teammates is that if you pick a fight as a group, your best way to win that fight is to stick to your Zarya and support her while she supports you with shields and suppressing laz0r beam fire. You can make a living killing divers as Zarya by just telling your squishies to run to you when they are being dove. She'll melt them while she shields you. They'll have to decide real quick to peel off or die. As NotParadox points out several times in the video, the fights and deaths his team was losing were the ones where they weren't really engaging as a unit. Where they were getting spread out or poorly positioned away from him. Her "turret" design is why Zarya is strong on maps that have stationary objectives like Volskaya, Shrines etc. It's also one of the reasons she is not that easy to play in solo-yolo queue. If your teammates don't work with her deficiency (immobility), she can find it hard to get a lot of value. Also she struggles on highly mobile teams that want to jump into fights because she's a snail. Having a Lucio or Tyrael teammate to give her mobility can mitigate that somewhat. But there are better choices with a mobile team than a Zarya. NotParadox makes due here because of the counterpick strat he employed to negate two PREDICTABLE damage Heroes in KTZ/Azmo. But it was a bit more difficult than it needed to be because his teammates weren't really gelling with Zarya's playstyle.
Hey paradox, good video and nice to see some Zarya strategy. Another good counter for the kelthuzad combo is uther. Take guardian of ancient kings at 7. Eat that chain like you would on Zarya and then cast Q on your teammate as soon as the root from nova crops up. 50 armor (net 40 due to the armor reduction from barbed chains) and the big heal from the Q after some of the combo damage has backliners surviving with 10-30% health depending on their health pool. Another quick heal and they're not in too bad shape.
Great video Paradox. I like your build you recommend, but I typically go Q Build with some slight differences and realize now the build has definitely held my play back.
No. Alarak needs to complete his quests to become a good Hero. Zarya lost nothing by doing solo. And that's modern day HotS solo laning in a nutshell: you don't have to really do anything other than not die. Except on Braxis or Shire where you must win the lane to get the objective.
Thanks as always. Question - would it be hard to link builds in the description? or show at some point like you do in the beginner guide? Do you already have these somewhere that we could already see? Also, on some of the beginner guides when you go over combos or things like that, would it be possible to write out the combo in the description? (ie: E- Q - auto - W - auto - E) I've been just pausing a lot trying to get those types of things for my own reference. keep up the great work!
Level 13 is Zarya's flex pick really. Depends on enemy and team. "Pain is Temporary" is great if you are maintank or are expecting to be focused by high burst damage from enemy. "Endurance Training" great against AA. "Spell Barrier" great against Ability Damage. "Unstoppable" great against a lot of CC.
Yes, you can solo lane with Zarya but a lot of teams will blame you if they die and the person with the shield abilities is playing in some far off corner. In this game I would have gone with the team until Whitemane got some talents.
How would you know they are blaming you? You have chat muted, right? Because only Bads would blame a Zarya for their death if they were a full map away from her when they died. Are you playing with Bads and not muting them? Why?
Anyone have suggestions on who to pair her with for the 5man or 4man? I never know when to take her.(gold/silver) Who's she counter burst? Is there like any time you take like 2 other bruiser or tank and bruiser plus her? I usually take give me twenty instead of speed is there a reason or time when one is better than the other?
It really shows when you Really know a character vs one you generally do. These videos are your bread and butter vs the overly simplistic videos like Azmodan: Beginner's Guide.
You're wrong in two different aspects: 1. This is not a 5 min begginer's guide but a 30min game. Of course there's gonna be more and more specific info here. Begginer's guides contain only the basics. 2. Azmodan is a pretty straightforward hero, his mechanics are very simple and the only build that's a little more challenging is the basic attack build. Zaria on the other hand is much more complex. Still if this was a begginer's guide about her, it would ' ve covered only the basics.
@@tomvittino Wrong? A very firm stance on an opinion. His beginner guides have had some more in-depth info, depending on the character. However, the short and sweet format honestly is a bigger detriment than benefit. The tips in them can sustain someone for maybe one one game, but so can just reading all othe the talents ahead of time.
@@mikeoc2187 They're just beginner's guides.. it's just a 5' introduction to the character. A description of most common builds, a quick combo, etc. Their depth depends on the particular hero mechanics. You can't compare them to a full game, because the game will have a TON more info. I don't think they're detrimental, they're just for beginners, for other people, not for you.
Sorry im not paradox Free zarya stacks ^^ Like with varians shield trow. Yes you would loose your shield but you have a max charge zarya wich is pretty scary on her own (especially with that loose al energy to gain a strong shield talent)
Btw may seem a very bronze answer, but using fear works great during a match, especially in the braxit holdout 1v1. If you show your stronger, the ennemy will play more safe
I'm not NotParadox but the answer is no. Chains trigger the shield strip. If you eat the chain, just shield immediately after. Enough of the combo is still shielded.
She's great and incredibly underrated. Ranged off tanks aren't a thing in hots and she has a lot of damage, is fairly tanky and has that amazing damage mitigation that really helps especially if you have a healer with mediocre healing per second like other. That said this is all about why Zarya is great, solo lane Zarya specifically is very meh and can hold her own as well as the next person but no better. You yourself admitted this in the video and the title is kind of misleading.
Thats why I tell people - let me play her. Of course, I am not that good with her, but also my enemys arent that good to lend their dmg so.. but they always start flaming and dont let me explain why she is NOW the right people. I argue nearly like Paradox - better sayin -> in the same diraction, but I get flamed. Hopefully now more peoply get why she can be a very powerful tool.
I don't like Zarya on the solo lane because one of her abilities is useless if she is solo. I prefer to be in the 4 man squad and then leave the solo lane to a melee assassin like Thrall or Malthael (Zarya also works best with melee assassins so that's an added bonus when drafting her)
Sometimes your personal preferences for team comp isn't happening. There ARE 4 separate persons on your team with their own opinions... And there is more to choosing a solo laner than just one or two reasons. He explains why in the video.
I just got her today 🙈 I agree, she was fun. 7 can't wait to be better. I still suck at this point. I get so used to the damage she soaks that I forget to retreat and end up dying too much.
Part of learning Zarya is dying a lot. It will teach you to know which fights to take, and when to be getting out. She's immobile and gets punished hard if you choose wrong. Best way to learn because your mistakes will get punished nearly every time.
I had this 40 min game as Uther and we were getting destroyed and I was the closest thing to a tank and we almost won thanks to our Abather player but by the end of it I had 200k tanked and 170k healing AS UTHER
6:26 saying "stop suiciding" isnt toxic, its being honest, i dont know why every opinion someone has about the other players its now reason to be "toxic", no wonder why no one take this game seriously if people keeps thinking like that, a game filled with snowflakes
@@inconnutheteacher6971 like what?, even i got called toxic, even reported, for saying "dont feed", "stop feeding", many pleople these days became too delicate about everything, hell i got reported for calling our bot Falstad, "Falstard", too many snowflakes in the game these last months, calling toxic everything, even if dare to make just 2 pings on them
There's a million different ways to say the exact same thing without putting blame on your teammate and making them feel like a dink. Are people snowflakes? Hell ya they are. But you can choose to deliver the right message in a productive way, or the right message in a way that could potentially have your human teammates react poorly. Is winning the game higher on your values? Or calling someone out?
There are ways to say things differently, million different ways, but no one gives any examples? He could've said 'stop dying', but that's it. 'Stop suiciding' is no where near being toxic.
Eh. No. You hit a chain and then two people die if you know what order to press the buttons in. Tricky if you don't play him a lot but that's about it imo.
NP... It is just too stupid and ineffective to go solo Zarya. 3 reasons: 1) You have an ability, which you can land only on your allies. So standing solo you lose the ability. More than 1 ability, you lose energy and damage. So you lose the whole hero, because you dont shield, you dont dmg, and doing completely nothing 2) AOE dmg. Tons of AOE dmg. 4 vs 4 fight is the best place for Zarya. Q is AOE, basic attacks are AOE, ults are AOE. And you use it only for waveclear on sololane? 3) Zarya never wins sololane. How did you get such rediculous idea to go 1 vs 1?
I agree that it is a very suboptimal way to play her, but at the same time if nobody else is doing it she can hold it down, clear and soak decently. She's not especially good solo though, no.
@@ma_sem they won. thats 'effective'. Got that? You are asking to be proven wrong when you were already proven wrong before you even typed a word. That means your OPINION is incorrect. Maybe you should try again.

Solo Lane Zarya...... But this godless heathen runs everything else.... I then copy it with my tragic gameplay with mixed success but at least I am having fun XD
The first 10 levels of a match, and the solo lane, don't matter anymore with the XP changes. Unless you literally throw it away, the mid to late game are what matters. And golly gee, Zarya (as NotParadox says repeatedly) is realllly good there.
Can we talk about that 160.000+ healing whitemane as well?? Holly molly
Zarya taking excessive credit here a bit too much yeah. Some late ally shielding here as well which could be mentioned. Good video anyway.
Not really. You can't heal if somebody or WM herself is dead. That's what Azmo and KTZ combo does. Zarya was the one who prevented deaths and allow WM to sustain them back up.

Do you already have these somewhere that we could already see? Also, on some of the beginner guides when you go over combos or things like that, would it be possible to write out the combo in the description? (ie: E- Q - auto - W - auto - E) I've been just pausing a lot trying to get those types of things for my own reference.
keep up the great work!
you are underestimating the spell shield on 13, it is amazing
I never know when to take her.(gold/silver)
Who's she counter burst? Is there like any time you take like 2 other bruiser or tank and bruiser plus her? I usually take give me twenty instead of speed is there a reason or time when one is better than the other?
It really shows when you Really know a character vs one you generally do. These videos are your bread and butter vs the overly simplistic videos like Azmodan: Beginner's Guide.
You're wrong in two different aspects:
NotParadox, what can you say about 4lv talent of Kel'thuzad - more dmg to shields?
Edit: Does this talent counter Zarya?
Sorry im not paradox
Free zarya stacks ^^ Like with varians shield trow.
Sounds like you are playing with Bads. Here's a suggestion: Mute all. Don't ever ask a Bad for their opinion and don't ever listen to a Bad in chat.
love zarya, but always have trouble pumping out the damage but as a counter pick she's pretty useful
Recently started playing Zarya,
I just got her today 🙈 I agree, she was fun.
@@drb4074 that's true. Thanks for the reply 😊
13:55 - Build
What mount is that? :o
19:05 OH SHIT OH SHIT
I had this 40 min game as Uther and we were getting destroyed and I was the closest thing to a tank and we almost won thanks to our Abather player but by the end of it I had 200k tanked and 170k healing AS UTHER
So of all the possible names you could take on, why Paradox?
I've been having luck with her on Hanamura recently :)
NotParadox doesn't like heroes that can blow up other heroes instantly. Guess he's not playing LoL anytime soon. It's partly why I left that and DoTA.
League is simply too boring.
Zar-REE-ya
Felipe is not from north America dude, is a brasilian name.Whitemane late game rules this game.
6:26 saying "stop suiciding" isnt toxic, its being honest, i dont know why every opinion someone has about the other players its now reason to be "toxic", no wonder why no one take this game seriously if people keeps thinking like that, a game filled with snowflakes
That way of saying it actually sounds toxic.
Even without putting silk gloves, there are ways to say things without directly insulting your teammates.
@@inconnutheteacher6971 like what?, even i got called toxic, even reported, for saying "dont feed", "stop feeding", many pleople these days became too delicate about everything, hell i got reported for calling our bot Falstad, "Falstard", too many snowflakes in the game these last months, calling toxic everything, even if dare to make just 2 pings on them
ME262MKI you are the guy that says he isn't toxic, then proceeds to toxify the entire match
'Stop suiciding' is no where near being toxic.
still not really sure why alarak wasnt the solo laner, maybe because hes weak against ranged?
Alarak needs to be working on his quests. Without them he's half a Hero.
Zarya loses nothing by being solo in lane for the first 10 levels of match.
Good match!
нетParadox!!!!
That’s kel thuzads job tho. He’s difficult to play thus he is rewarded such hard hitting attacks.
Eh. No. You hit a chain and then two people die if you know what order to press the buttons in. Tricky if you don't play him a lot but that's about it imo.
GG,
nice strategy
Nice video. I usually looked at Zarya as useless hero for ranked games. Just like I dislike seeing D.Va or butcher.
Good video
Lol? Video called “y I luv solo lane zarya” > well I love her on any map you don’t need to win the solo lane heh.
NP... It is just too stupid and ineffective to go solo Zarya.
3 reasons:
1) You have an ability, which you can land only on your allies. So standing solo you lose the ability. More than 1 ability, you lose energy and damage. So you lose the whole hero, because you dont shield, you dont dmg, and doing completely nothing
2) AOE dmg.
Did you watch the vid? Sure didn't seem "stupid and ineffective" when they stomped their way to a win.
@@drb4074 first, i watched the video to the end, second, i main Zarya in master league, third, prove me that everything i said before is wrong.
@@ma_sem they won. thats 'effective'.
Got that? You are asking to be proven wrong when you were already proven wrong before you even typed a word. That means your OPINION is incorrect.
Maybe you should try again.
@@drb4074 They complitely lost early and mid game. They just screwed it. 21 lvl, they lost whole top and half mid while enemies lost... Nothing. Sololane role influences on first first 13 levels. When did they begin winning? After god damned 21 lvl. Was there 21 lvl sololaners? No, there were only 5 man squads.
WHO won this game? Maybe it was Whitemane who healed 1.6 times more than Ana? Or was it maybe Azmodan who left the late game and helped NotP win? "OH, COME ON, IT IS OBVIOUS! SOLOLANING ZARYA WON IT, GO WATCH THE VID! NOT PARADOX MVP"... Here, take some money and buy yourself your own opinion and brains.
Could that KT possibly do less? I don't think I saw ONE good combo from him in a freakin' 30 minute game.
Solo Lane Zarya...... NotParadox's channel should be called "strategic and analysis of HOTS gameplayand a regular odd socks draw off lane cancer cheese meta"
Normal human beings would just pick Dehaka, Yrel, Blaze maybe if they are feeling frisky a malthael or offlane E.T.C.
But this godless heathen runs everything else....
I then copy it with my tragic gameplay with mixed success but at least I am having fun XD
bruh anything zarya can do solo other heroes can do better... shes losing out on an entire ability in solo -.-
way to repeat what he said.
The first 10 levels of a match, and the solo lane, don't matter anymore with the XP changes. Unless you literally throw it away, the mid to late game are what matters. And golly gee, Zarya (as NotParadox says repeatedly) is realllly good there.
@@drb4074 xp and solo lane still matters. lol.
@@matthewarden-sonego5056 Nope. "lol"
@@drb4074 spoken like someone who isn't very good at the game
Zarya is so butch lol
so interesting. but this guy is arrogant.
i always like and hate watching his hots-movies.
Lol, the amount of people who actually play this game is so low that it's easy to climb ranks
Why are you still Bronze then bro?
