  • Forgot to mention in the video that the Brownells 16" SOCOM barrel front sight base is on straight! It's not "F" marked but it is at an "F" marked dimension of 1.98" and correct for a flat top!

    You are very wise to decide what you want to build FIRST. I just completed an M4A1 build and have the "rifle" complete. Take the "rifle" in your drawings, and that is what I have.
    I also have a Colt carry handle, which was from another build, but I am not using it on this rifle. Yet. I am now considering what to "finish" it with in terms of accessories.
    I also used the Midwest Industries quad rail. Works great. Looks great. I used a Bushmaster 14.5" chrome lined, gov't profile barrel. I didn't want to go the tax/registration/SBR route, so I used an extended A2 birdcage, pinned and welded. To my eye, the extended flash hider is much less obvious than the extra barrel length of the 16" barrel. I have several M16/AR15 rifles in 20" and 24" barrel lengths. I'm not going to fret the velocity difference between 14.5" and 16". I'll just use a 20" rifle if that is a concern.
    You do what you prefer.
    I will likely go with a Matech rear BUIS. They seem like great sights and are reasonably priced (I see them for around $80-85). Have fun with it, Pete!
    All I can say is the M16A2 clone was so much easier.

      Thanks Gary! The A2 Retro stuff is much easier! I thought about an "exact" SOPMOD clone but the M4A1 carbine rifle is all Colt and correct parts are not easy to come by in today's environment. To do everything exact minus full auto would be out of reach for what I'm willing to spend. Thanks again for watching and commenting!

    Hello again from N. Ga., Pete. Thanks for another excellent video! I'm anxious to see the build progress. I have a couple of questions, if I may ask. First, when staking a castle nut, what size center punch do you use? Next, where can someone get an Armours Manual like the one you have? I believe you said it was a marine corps manual, does one have to be or have been in service? Thanks, and have a great day!

    • @peteregger7928
      @peteregger7928  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The hard copy manual I have for M16A2 is U.S Marine Corps Technical Manual TM 05538C-23&P/2 October 1984. You may also be able to locate one by the NSN 1005-01-128-9936. I found mine at a gun show back in the mid 80's but they can be purchased from a number of online retailers these days and are usually copies not the genuine manual. I know that I probably should but I never stake my castle nuts. I have a couple of old carbines from the early 90's that used the spanner ring lock nut not the newer style castle nut. To my knowledge the spanner ring lock nuts were never staked by the military or anyone else and mine have never come loose. They were torqued somewhere around 38-40 ftlbs. That being said... don't be like me! Stake your castle nuts! Brownells has a video showing how they do it and what style punch to use although I find some of their information subject to question! Lol!

There are some engravers around that can put the correct Colt or FN on them. Most of them are using lasers so it won't look exactly like a roll stamp. I've had good luck with the receivers but the anodize is usually a little rougher in texture than it should be. Yes, I'm currently looking at PSA's H & R gray uppers & lowers, A1 barrel assembly, A1 lower parts kit, H & R BCG & CH. I'm also pricing a lot of parts at Brownells & Midway. Brownells has an assembled barrel for $199.99 as opposed to PSA's for $259.99, although PSA's is chrome lined. I should probably go for black, as there is a wider choice of available parts.
