The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) released its rapid review of the Immigration Salary List (ISL) in February 2024, following earlier announcements regarding changes to migration policies. The review proposes significant reductions in the number of occupations eligible for special advantages under the skilled worker route, with only 21 occupations recommended for inclusion on the ISL. These recommendations, if implemented, would lead to fewer job opportunities qualifying for advantages under the skilled worker path, reflecting the government's aim to reduce net migration. The MAC's proposals are expected to inform the creation of the new ISL, scheduled to come into effect in April 2024, pending government review.
Highlights
📋 The MAC's rapid review proposes significant reductions in the number of occupations eligible for special advantages under the skilled worker route.
💼 Only 21 occupations are recommended for inclusion on the Immigration Salary List (ISL), representing a notable decrease from the previous shortage occupation list.
🌍 The proposed changes would affect job opportunities nationwide, with only 18 out of the 21 recommended occupations applying to roles across the United Kingdom, while three are specific to Scotland.
💡 The main benefit of inclusion on the ISL is a reduction of up to 20% on general salary thresholds for shortage occupation list roles.
📉 The suggested jobs make up just 8% of all the jobs qualifying for the skilled worker path, compared to the 30% covered by the previous shortage occupation list, potentially limiting job opportunities for migrants.
📅 Pending government review, the MAC's proposals are expected to form the basis of the new ISL, slated for implementation in April 2024, with further analysis planned later in the year.

Hello sis in isl the lab technician had 3 years or experience it is important bcz before this isl the hcpc recommended 6months or 1 year is enough but we need 3 of experience

We radiographers aren't affected. Continue making applications .
Do you think this will make it difficult for physiotherapists to get a job? Most of the healthcare professions were excluded as they already were getting paid according to the occupational pay scale.
