I don't see it as a lack of ideas, but more of a lack of confidence in their writing, which is why they have to keep tossing in throwbacks to the past and have a constant source of noise and crazy visuals all the time.
I don't think they're necessarily running out of ideas, I think it might be a lack of incentive to actually try. Like, I'm sure the writers know how much the product sucks and are probably fine with it for a paycheck. But I look at a show like Simpsons and see how far that's ran and it just makes me wonder.

I just realized: if SpongeBob’s parents are now retired, which they weren’t at the start of the series, that would mean that they have in fact aged. Which by proxy would mean that SpongeBob has also aged. But he hasn’t. So somehow, this means that his parents have gotten older, while he has gotten younger, and therefore the space time continuum is broken… there’s some food for thought

It's been that way for almost a decade but it's gradually gotten worse to the point where this is what they do. Soon there will be full on reairings of old episodes but with an updated resolution and whatnot.

I feel like Sheldon SquarePants was a rip off of that episode where plankton pretends to be SpongeBob’s grandma. In both, plankton pretends to be someone he’s not, he asks for the formula but SpongeBob asks to hang out with him first. Plankton suffers then he doesn’t get the formula

There's also Imitation Krabs which is pretty much identical as a concept. There will probably be an episode where Plankon pretends to be Gary and they'll bring back that old lady he ran away to.
One thing I noticed is that despite shoehorning in everyone's parents a lot the writers seem to think Spongebob's parents are old retirees like the mothers of Mr. Krabs and Squidward.
Which is weird because clearly they aren't, like Spongebob used to have a living Grandmother and now his parents are suppost to be Senior Citizens themeselves? Did his Grandma die off-screen?

@@Carossmo that's good that you think that but I love season 5, I have a soft spot for seasons 6-9A and I'm honestly not even scared to say it, this era has some entertaining moments but not perfect some episodes can be randomly cruel but so were many old cartoons, if the hate stoops from Squidward torture or gross-ups then I know right off the bat there's an enter fan in the midst whose likely seen 0 episodes outside rants (not saying they're naturally good but try forming a personal opinion), yeah the episodes also tend to be boring but that's what made them so hysterical and you know what season 1 was also pretty boring so it wasn't that random that later parts were also. As for seasons 10 and later that's garbage, it forces humor way too much and is just as brainrot as Fanboy & Chum Chum but not quite.

The point is that the nostalgia bait is literally just there. Very little about the episodes is really that appealing to more mature audiences. The fact that they’re bringing back old memorable characters doesn’t really change anything about the episode.

Post S11 is where I really feel SpongeBob has gone 100% downhill since Stephen Hillenberg’s death in 2018. Which is 6 years ago. The last time I cared about SpongeBob was Salty SpongeBob and The Tiral Wave. SpongeBob had some fantastic and good episodes post SpongeBob thr movie(2004) and 04894 Sponge on The Run and Sandy Swuitrel movie(2020 and 2024). S12-13 have a couple good episodes. There are also some so bad it’s good episodes or SpongeBob, minusing all the bad and bland episodes of Appnhebob. I hate late SpongeBob. Love esrly SpongeBob and didn’t mind mid SpongeBob. Yet post-Hillenberg’s death(more like two years after) SpongeBob 100% become unwatchable. That’s saying a lot despite all the gross episodes us die hard fans had to face watching to find actual gold.
A lot of episodes from season 12 were ok'd by Hillenburg because they would've aired in 2019 meaning they were worked on in 2018 before his passing, I find it amusing how many people think the show actually changed in quality the moment he died despite much of season 12 also being during his lifetime, somehow no one can understand that it takes more than 3 days to make an episode of a cartoon. It takes an entire year.
Everything after season 9 just wasn’t the same in my thoughts. Sure seasons 10-14 have a few good episodes but these seasons don’t make me mad. They make me feel disappointed.
It sucks people are so quick to scoff when someone mentions Hillenburg's vision and immediately defend this garbage like we're all claiming to know how he thinks personally
because there's no other way to put it, Hillenburg made this show so good and Nickelodeon was clearly the one always on his back changing or demanding things to make SpongeBob a marketable literal toddler show
And to see it become JUST that, plus all the merchandise Hillenburg's exact worst fear of seeing floating around in the sea was, is now a reality, this IS a desecration of his legacy and everything he stood for, whether it's intentional or not, no one is calling the people responsible monsters who have this intention in mind
but you can't deny that SpongeBob is dead thanks to their decisions, and that's not to get into petty semantics about the show's ratings, SpongeBob as we knew it, SpongeBob as the amazing show that it was, and as the quality show that earn actual awards and inspired so many people, has died, we are watching its corpse being shook in front of kids for cheap entertainment

I mean but the insane thing is that people could just stop watching. It’s not getting better and it never will just from crying. All the ranting and raving does jack SHIT if you still watch. It’s not gonna get cancelled bc older audiences are complaining about it. It’s gonna keep going till ratings drop and as long as people watch it to complain about it it’s just gonna get worse 🤣

i think the tie being a clip on is actually a pretty clever way to nod to a previous episode...even if it offers a bit of a contradiction.
spongebob had a modern episode where he couldn't tie a knot, so it makes sense he would struggle to tie a tie, so he decides to use a clip on. he HAS been seeing tying the tie, but i think that CAN be explained off as "memorizing something he just learned"

SpongeBob is so busy now. Too colorful, loud and crazy/gross. Like most kid shows these days. Explains why kids are so wired I guess 😂
Okay everything else is genuinely pretty terrible, but SpongeBob booping his dad on the nose through the split screen felt very classic SpongeBob and had some humor to it in the delivery.

@@andrewbaillie5549 I'm not saying the context we got is good enough to deem it "charming," but in an older episode I could picture him doing that to Squidward specifically, and then hopefully hanging up immediately, instead of extending the call, which kills it the most here imo. Humor in the delivery because.. I mean it's Tom Kenney. His voice sounds rougher and the material they give him isn't great but I still think there's humor in the idea and he still has the energy to pull it off, is all I meant by that part.
An og episode would have probably also had SpongeBob's hand go through the phone itself instead of passing over the split screen, and done more of a visual gag there tbh.
Plankton could have at least walked away from SpongeBob for some reason. I mean, he just can't tell SpongeBob about the secret formula unless Krabs tells him about that. It's possible that Mr. Krabs would give up the ownership of the Krusty Krab to SpongeBob and SpongeBob would probably make some changes for the restaurant. I knew that season 14 was an abomination. It never ends, does it? Someday it will, someday it'll happen. Even if Mr. Kenny would retire in voice acting if SpongeBob had a series finale. It's been there for over 20 years, man. Let the show die. Bring a new TV series that has nothing to do with SpongeBob or something. We millennials used to like that show during our time.
This is just F.U.N. but if you only described it using other episodes. Like, there’s some Dying for Pie in there, I’m picking up a little New Leaf, and I don’t know why, but my brain’s telling me there’s some Sweet and Sour Squid as well? Probably the ending.

at 9:53 that Spongebob never learned to do his Tie is defenetly not true, I remember back from seasons 2 or 3 in the Strike episode Spongebob showed clearly how to do his tie. Sorry but it needed to be said again here even though you showed it^^'
It really hurts me to see what used to be the best show on Nickelodeon is now just a dumb and annoying kids show that constantly nostalgia baits it's users that watched it since it's debut.

Depressing. The entire reason these cartoons were ever even popular and stayed popular for so long was because both kids and adults could find them funny. The kids couldn’t understand the adult humour. That was the whole point.
