Hello there. I have a problem. When I swap the ide cables to the new drive I get a green screen and nothing else happens. Im using a SATA drive with a Startech Sata to IDE adapter. My new HDD is from an old computer and I haven't formatted previously. Can you please guide me on what I may be doing wrong?
ok i got myself a new 250gb ide hard drive and it says buffer i/o error on device hda51, logical block 100928 and gets stuck at 78% I've tried 3 different hard drives and still no success pls help
well i did the process everything finished normal but i have some problem..first of all i dont see the G partition(with the remaining storage) i see C E(some apps inside) and F which had my games is total empty... any idea? also when i select partition info now on chimp says xbp partition table not found
Hello again. I used your videos to successfully clone & swap hdd’s (but I had to use rocky5’s prebuild 1.1.7). I swapped to a 2tb drive & now when I boot up my xbox it takes over a minute for the main menu of rocky5’s softmod tool to load. Any ideas on why its so slow? If I look at file explorer it shows: C: 481mb D: 0 E: 3075mb F: 1,899,567mb X: 749mb Y: 749mb Z: 749mb
Interesting, with a 2tb drive, you should have a f and g partition rather than one large F. I would ftp the program xbpartioner and launch that, set your partitions where you have around a tb for each of your extended partitions and see if that fixes your slow boot up, I'm assuming its booting to unleashx and not xbmc right?
I did all the chimp step. The slave drive lock, when i start the xbox with the original drive no error, when i switch to the 80 pin cable and the sata adapter i got a error 12. should i try another cable?
If you have a samsung dvd drive and you are using the startech ide to sata adapter then itll always show an error to fix this leave a dvd movie or any music CD in the dvd drive when you boot it up itll work Most samsung dvd drives have that problem when using sata drives instead of IDE
I'm swapping the IDE cable when Chimp prompts me to (with a SATA to IDE adapter), but I'm getting stuck on the boot screen right afterwards. I can't get past "Booting Chimp 261812..." Any suggestions? The jumpers on both my original hard drive and my new one are set accordingly.
Tech Hoarder Yeah. My hotswap takes about 4 seconds and the hard drive is definitely getting power. My new hard drive should be compatible according to the compatibility chart. After I do the hotswap and press A, the led on the front of the Xbox starts flashing rapidly between green, orange and red. Not sure if that is normal or not.
I can boot into Chimp if I leave the IDE cable in the disc drive. I tried booting into chimp first, and then hotswapping. I can get to chimp’s menu; but even after scanning for both hard drives (they both showed up, although no information was given for either), I don’t get any options for multiple drive operations like cloning from master to slave.
I had the same problem.. How did you transfer the Chimp files to your Xbox? Originally, I used Filezilla for Mac OSX but after some research I found a reddit thread that suggested when transferring with a Mac OR other certain FTP software, that the nature of some files can be modified by doing so. I thought a transfer was a transfer but I took the advice and FTPed the files via Internet Explorer on a VM running XP. It worked for me! Sounds wacky, but there ya go.

@@techhoarder3010 Oh nice, I have the Samsung DVD drive on the Xbox. But will still buy the 80Wire IDE incase it won't work with the 40Wire. I did everything with chimp but get error 13 on both xboxes i have ..at first it worked fine then when i screwed everything back in i turned it on and got error 13 like dammmmmm wtf🤔
Is your xbox hard modded? You are getting a dashboard launch failure so something is wrong with the files on the disk. Is the hdd new? If its Sata, are you using an 80 wire ide cable?
@@techhoarder3010 yeah i was thinking of the 80 wire ide cable might be the problem.. well i do have one but it dosent reach...and im using everything from your video..sata converter i bought a while ago....like i mean i modded xboxes dozens of times..but lately its been error 13 loads of times for some reason🤔
seems like i have shorted my xbox console by trying to mod it, is there a way to reset it? cause when i plug the hdd it powers down, if i leave the hdd unplugged from the molex cable it powers up normally
The black ide 80 wire cable in this video was 18 inches. You can use almost any IDE cable that is 18 inches and longer. Just be sure to find one where the two closest connectors are about 5 inches apart. Thanks
Yes, I have this tutorial here which will get you the EEPROM if you don't have it yet. th-cam.com/video/FSe89adGfR0/w-d-xo.html. You will need that to Lock your hard drive. I will make my next set of videos on XBOXHDM and it will show you how to build a new hard drive from scratch. Thanks!
Hey when I go to start chimp I just get stuck at the first page where it says "Booting Chimp 261812" is this because I don't have the 80 wire ide cable?
Dude, this worked perfectly for me. I used the Startech Adapter and a 1TB WD Green Caviar. Thank you so much!
man you made this so noob friendly & it worked like a charm
Thank you so much, once I figured out my ide to Sata adapter was not compatible, chimp worked great.
thanks a lot will use this to upgrade and clone to a 2tb hard drive this week: :)
Thanks man I just did it you linked me the video on reddit noe I have an 80gb hard drive in there
Glad it helped. Thanks for the comment.
Today i buy a Sata 1tb but i think it dont Works so i return it and i olso now have 80GB
The law of attraction works, if you believe in yourself & work towards any goal you will suceed 😊 i hope this helps 🙏
when i load chimp it only gives me the option to exit, not to connect slave HDD and press a. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Hey I swapped the cable to the new harddrive and now it says booting chimp and also says unable to get first sector. Can anyone help?

Not all hard drives are lockable
This is only a problem for softmodded xbox
Hardmodded xbox can use any drive locked or unlocked
Sounds like you may be using the stock 40 wire cable instead of an 80 wire cable.

I would scan the hard drive. IO errors usually mean the hard drive is toast. I have a video on mhdd you can watch on how to scan a drive.
It means that new drive isnt lockable
Softmodded xbox need to be lockable
If you have a hardmodded xbox then all drive will work lockable or unlocked
Big thanks! it worked like charm!

Are you hardmodded? If so your bios may not support a larger 1tb or greater hard drive. You would need to reflash a different bios.
Is this working on my 1.6 Xbox?

Either a bad dying drive or just an error cloning the drive

Error 12 is a dvd drive issue. On the adapter board, did you switch the jumper back to master?

Are you using a y molex splitter to power both drives? Are you getting an error number?
Is it required for the SATA swap to use the 80Wire 40Pin IDE cable or can I just use the 40Wire 40Pin IDE that came from the XBOX itself

Make sure the IDE cable is plugged in the right way and not upside down. This does happen believe it or not!

You only need the 80 wire if you are using sata to clone onto.
@@techhoarder3010 yeah that's what I'm doing dang that's the problem I guess, correct? Will not work with the 40 wire one?
You should start there. 80 wire should fix the issue.
Does the Xbox have to be hooked up to the internet while doing this
It does not.
