I heard so much about modding an og xbox, that it is the simplest console to mod, but yet, i was NEVER able to do it! Until about a year ago, i have a 1.5 xbox, i flashed the Evox bios on it, upgraded it to 250gb (which is more than enough for me, if i ever need a bigger hdd, i can just replace it now), i connected the og hdd to my pc and read the smart data, and i was stunned that the hdd was still working, it had A LOT of bad sectors! I like my modded system, i also had a crystal xbox (which is a 1.6, the worst one!), so i replaced the 1.6 for the 1.5 mobo, and i installed some cheap rgb in it, and i am very happy about my mods i did! Those xbox consoles are troopers! So many good games for them!
Well that certainly took longer than expected. I'm gonna be honest and say I'm not happy with how long some of these videos have become. I think in the future I'm going to focus more on using a script as well as doing the narration as a VO instead of while I'm working on the project. I've had good success with this in the past and I think that's just what I need to stick to. As for doing shorter, impromptu videos, I might still make a few here and there, I just need to make sure I'm picking short and easy topics I know I can do without a VO or script and have a video that isn't super long (over 15 minutes). May also be some longer videos that are still done without a script, just because I have a few ideas that In know wouldn't work all too well with a script. Anyways, hope you understand where I'm coming from with this. I'll still try to aim for at least one video a month even with the different presentation format. It's not that I can't do it, it's just that I've been lazy honestly.
Awesome video. I've done these so many times, and they take as long or longer than usual. Xbox og is way better mod than ps2. Once you load your games onto your drive, you should be good for years to come. I also replaced the cpu fan and case fan. The noise drives me crazy.
I might be wrong but i found that ps2 is way easier considering what the modding comm developed on Xbox you need to have a bugged game with save to just be able to softmod it unlike ps2 where you could easily softmod it using a modded DVD disc or a mcard, again I could be wrong....
i updated my xbox to a 2TB sata HDD. The 80 wire/40 pin cable was a pain in backside to route and you need a long one, so.... I decided to make my own cable adapter. i am able to use 40 wire/40 pin cables and a small adapter board. I am still tweaking a bit but it seems all the IDE/Sata adapters work... i am waiting for a final little adapter board to prove it 100%, but so far it works, just looks a little ugly, until i get the final little board., should be a couple of weeks. Once done i will release some pictures
Nice video. I got like 4 of those cheap adapters from china.I never used 3 when i opened them years later all the caps went bad and leaked. I did a ps2 ide hd mod,now it's more efficient/modern.
I converted my PS2 network adapter over to SATA awhile back after using IDE for years. I'm glad that those adapters are still being sold, would be a nightmare trying to get one of the regular IDE to SATA adapters to work with it.
I did an older ssd just because I had one already and was not worried about it failing because I backed up my eprom and also kept the original drive just in case.
i bought the 80 wire ide ... installed it ... hated trying to situate it inside the case ... I put the 40 wire ide cable back on to see if would work. And it's been working fine for me... I did install with an SSD HDD on mine though... don't know if that helps allow for operation or not.
It took me 3 weeks! From beginning to end to fully and correctly mod the OG Xbox. I had to learn to hard way that not only you have to soft mod your console but then you have to hard mode it by doing the TSOP flash. Then I had to learn the hard way also about the different types of versions from 1.0- 1.6 then the type of hard drives. Then definitely recommend changing thermal paste before anything. This modding is not for the faint of heart. Let me tell you though once you are done with properly hacking and upgrading the hard drive you literally come out of this a pro and everything else besides modding the 360 is a piece of cake.
These VER Adapter Revision is missing 2 SMD Resistors. The "original" JP103 and RXD Adapters have those. I transfered like 10 VER Adapters from very slow workling to fully workig with :D
noctuas... i think spin less RPM, i'm not sure i'd want it at a CPU fan.thtas why thye are quite. maybewith a copper heat sink? for all i know it works fine. im curious if a blower fan could be squeezed in
Your probleem with booting the xbox is not a problem with the green adapter but with your drive. Its the head parking of the green drives thats the problem. You can disable that and the drive will work like a WD blue drive and there will be no problems anymore.
I wish it were like that here. . . Even at the no-name(non-goodwill//army) thrift stores here in texas, original xboxes are like .. . pricefixed or coalitioned at 50USD minimum. Always 50. Never 49.99, never some other _".99 at the end like everything else in the store"_ value. It's always 50.00 flat no matter where I look. As if all marketplaces decided to unanimously fix at that exact price regardless of suspicion. Even if it's broken or missing its video cable. I really wish mine still worked!! 😅but it has to stay dead right now because it has a bad TSOP flash and I've never owned a soldering iron before. .
It's electrical tape. The whole point of it's existence is to be non-conductive. Also I've done this many times before with other various adapters and solder points with no issues.
Problem isn't the tape insulator its the goo that makes it stick. Not saying thats the problem. Just a possible point of failure. If its 3m I trust it if its anything else who knows what the chemical makeup of the adhesive is. It should be rubber based but...
20$ Hmm, I got 3 on ebay back in 2021, Two for £10 & One for £5 So what, like 7 Dollhairs each Oh sure the modded consoles, easily over a hundred. Honestly, some of the consoles on ebay are just, I feel like I'm stealing them, 5 quid for a broken 1, that I intend on jamming a modchip in & a new harddrive, & all that's wrong with it is a dead drive, which too, for my purpose, is not at all broken, it's as well being sold as fully functional too me. Ooh yes, that tickles my brain
I'm waiting on some cash for the makemhz newest HDMI setup. I went to do all this the other day and I have everything needed startech with the red pcb and a 80 wire cable but no drives I have seem to work. I upgraded my Xbox back in 2012 with a 320 gb ide drive and using the same methods from back then I can't even build a hard drive on my old PC. I did null out that eeprom tho the other week just Incase something happened to the hard drive.

Unless im not seeing it... is it possible to get a parts list?

Yeah those generic IDE to SATA adapters are trash, they only work half the time and are super picky about what drive you are using.

I was thinking about making an Xbox Portable soon.

That is why I prefer a PATA drive, so as to not put up with adapters.

Ok I’m going to flex a little, I made a mtn og Xbox with a 1ghz cpu upgrade and 128mb of ram and 1tb lol
Do u know where I can get another replacement diclsc drive cause mine quit working

I tried it with a WD Blue and there was no change
@@NTGTechnology Too bad this isn't the problem then (this was the problem with me) because it was an easy fix
What dashboard are you using? Looks very close to stock
I... forget honestly. I'd have to go look at which theme I have on it.
Let me know if you get around to it. I’ve been wanting to hardmod my Xbox but I don’t want to give up that nostalgic look and feel
Sorry it took me so long, but I'm using the Green Athloni Kyro 4 skin for UnleashX.
@@NTGTechnology Hey no problem, my modchip is arriving tomorrow so its perfect timing actually. Thanks for looking that up for me!

Smell it!
Can i just use a plain hdd and not sata? Just curious
You can use a regular IDE hard drive.
Cool thanks. I have a 300 gb one. Don't own that many games to put on it. About 20 that would be more then enough I'm sure. Thanks again
Take your tape off the IDE connector it might be conductive

When you go cheap
Throw it in a dishwasher.
You made a good video of how not to mod an Xbox.
Lmao

Hey those green drives are the worst and I heard they never go to the full rpm speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not enough exclaimation marks. Point not taken.
