  • An adventure trekking through the Himalayas and my climb to the summit of island Peak 6200m. INTERESTED ? SUBSCRIBE.
In November of 2016 I set out with a goal to trek to Mt. Everest base camp. Instead I ended up climbing my first mountain, Island Peak and experienced the most Gruelling, Rewarding and coldest 18 hours of my life.

The glacier was more solid in 2003. No ladders required.

Jake, if you ever go climbing again please hold your ice axe the other way round so you can successfully perform an ice axe arrest

I like the Indian classical music Strings and Tabla drums 🙂. Beautiful video. I want to do this in early December 2019 after the 3 high passes EBC trek.

Thanks for sharing Jake. Maybe it’s the lack of oxygen or they didn’t tell you, but the backup carabiner should be on the rope, above the ascender. Not connected to the ascender like you’re doing at 6:57z This is in case the handle would break, the other part would hopefully stay on and keep you in place.
That fixed rope also doesn’t look so good anymore, nor does the sling you’re attached too… glad you’ve made it back safe 🙏 cheers

Damn, that’s intense! I entertained the thought of that but don’t think I could handle the exposure. I’ve been to EBC, but actual climbing is so much more intense!

Tapi salut sama zawin, lebih susah ke island peak yg tingginya 6000 an dibanding basecamp everest yg tinggi nya cuma 5000 an

Climb to the summit, find yellow snow. You were there in November 2016? Cool! I was there around that time as well. Didn't climb that peak, but I met another group that did. Am planning to give it a go as well.

Jake, thank you for sharing! It's a great mini Everest movie :D. What time of the year did you go? Also, how fast were you able to find tour company in Kathmandu? And last question: did you have any mountaineering experience prior to this "easy" climb? ;)

You went during the start of winter in nov? How were the temps? I’m intending to go there at the tail end of winter in mid February. I’ve done EBC in December before and remembered how cold it was. But there was no rain and hardly any show showers. Winter in Nepal is dry and cold!

IAGO, I am doing the Island peak climb mid March as part of the EBC trek. The cost for the guide and the whole trek for me was around 3200 not counting plane trip and gear expenses.

Usually first day is Chhukung to base camp, next day 1 am climb to summit and return by 3pm. rest in bsse camp or Chhukung. Some companies stay one day at base camp and do climbing course. Some stay at high camp one night.

Hi, how do I go about finding a good tour company to do this trek once I get to Kathmandu? I've heard it's best to not book anything before I go but just a little concerned about not planning anything prior to arrival. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mate, I use and have always used swotah travel ( www.swotahtravel.com ) Ajay the top man is one of my best mates and Climbing buddy. Hell go above and beyond for you. You can have piece of mind that he’s paying all the locals and staff correctly as well and not ripping anyone off. Tell him Jake sent you. Good luck mate ✌🏼

Hi Jake! May I have all the equipment lists that you use (Outer, Insulation and etc.). Me and my girl friend just did the EBC on March 2017 and planing to going back for Island Peak. Thank you very much!

    • @AroundAboutJake
      @AroundAboutJake  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi mate, if you already did EBC then you will have most of the gear that you need to buy. Iwould purchase a fairly decent down jacket and insulated trousers, the best thermals are merino wool, and thick socks and gloves, both mittens and under gloves.
Other than that any well respected trekking company in nepal should provide you with all the mountaineering gear you will need. its way cheaper to rent if its your first mountain that fork out a lot of cash to buy.
      you'll need to rent
      .helmet
      .ice axe
      .harness
      .jumar
      .crampons
      .boots that will accept crampons
goes with out saying about a head torch, little first aid kit, thermas and all that jazz :) have a good trip mate :)

De Luca, I am planning to do EBC and was considering doing Island Peak. I am just worrying that 20 days might be too much for me. My question for you is whether you regret that you have done Island Peak on your last trip? Or are you glad that you tested yourself before going for something bigger? Also, do you and your GF have any mountaineering experience?

$1500 he said in above comment reply. I guess it includes full 20 days trip. I asked many Nepal companies from Chhukung 3-4 days its 800-900 USD.
