I try to stay away from trends...They date quickly. I just try to develop my own style-I strive for an eclectic, curated over time home. I want my place to scream ‘me,’ not trend.

I love transitional style, that’s what I’m going for. I’m tempted to bring in some contemporary pieces. There are some really cool accent chairs that I like. I think the two styles could look good together.

What about California coastal? That’s my style...relaxed, easy breezy...neutrals and blue tones.
That was my exact question, love Coastal! But this is the first video I’ve seen on this channel so I didn’t know if I missed that on another video. I didn’t see my style in this video. Mine is Tribal Chic. I like incorporating lots of ethnic pieces that are unique and textured. Beaded accents, grass or woven baskets, textured pillows, fur throws, tribal rugs, handmade artifacts from Africa, South America and Islandic places. And lots of tropical plants. I recently added some rattan egg chairs to my living room also. They look so tropical and cool.

Thank you so much for breaking down each style, giving examples not only in furniture pieces but in color schemes, and showing what it is and even contrasting with what it isn't. I've been struggling because I like so many different things, but I know now that my home is transitional and I'm ready to add some modern pieces to update the traditional pieces that I already own. I love every style and realized my go to is contemporary because 100% so true you can find what’s trending anywhere! 2022 goal is to get out of my comfort zone and look into places that carry more of what I truly love. Going for a the transitional traditional modern look :) thanks for the tips!!

this helped so much. I was polarized with decorating my home for 10 years and finally stepping out. didn't know my style and didn't want to "experiment" b/c having to 'redo" things etc as I'm doing alot myself. Thanks for the explanation.

Thank you! I’m eclectic and love bohemian style and part of how I create it is by using a few older French country pieces mixed with other pieces with cleaner lines(but still have nice French country friendly fabric like linen). But the things that tie everything together are: classic color palette (black, off white, brown- mostly from various wood) and loads of textures like linen, subtle velvet, textured wooden surfaces, high gloss finished wooden dining table with a matte dining bench & textured fabric dining bench, etc.
Thank you so much, Kristen, for this thorough explanation of design styles. Until watching your video, I didn’t even know that there were so many different and defined styles. I suppose there are even more, but perhaps not as well known.
When I was recently responding to an electronic questionnaire in which I was asked what my design style was, I did not have a clue how to respond as I didn’t know that all these styles existed nor their names. After watching your video I can now put the word “transitional” to the style I have been trying to achieve in my new condominium. When it comes to the finer details of how to totally achieve that goal, it becomes a little more complicated, for a novice like me at least, but I now understand the broader concept thanks to your video.

I believe my style is a cross between modern and casual. I do like modern pieces but also things that are casual looking so it looks more homey. I just like things that spark joy and make me happy. I can appreciate any style home as long as it’s neat and tidy. ❤️ Thanks for breaking down the various styles!👍🏼

I've just started watching your videos . I absolutely love your tips and ideas. I'm finally updating my room and I've gone very dark moody because I've so much light all day that's comes into my room so I can afford to . The metal art you had in a previous video for you room and your parents room has given me the idea to do same. I love it
My favorite style is “inviting industrial” (I didn’t know it was a thing till I did some looking up). I love how it mixes a modern Scandinavian feel with a casual industrial grunge look. I find it so interesting, fun and such unique look that allows for a lot of creativity

I cannot believe I found the absolute gem that is your TH-cam channel. I've been watching your videos nonstop learning all I can to make my home look amazing and I can't thank you enough.
My girlfriend and I have lived in our house for a little over a year. We've been pretty good about buying things that go well but the only rule we could come up with was "black, gray, and white" which is okay but it's not enough. Sometimes I feel like our house causes stress instead of decreasing it with the clutter and lack of intentional/designed peace. That's gonna start to change. 😁
We also just had a baby a few months ago and I REALLY want to give her the absolute best home environment that I can. I want the house to feel like a true home and inspire her to be creative and value beauty and good things. 😊🙏
Also, I honestly cannot believe this content is free. Every single thing I need to learn has popped up for 2 days now when I search for it and it's given me a big boost to my life goals. So glad I watched this! I have always been on the French Provincial/Victorian style. It does NOT fit my new downsized home. This video made me realize I am actually going towards the Transitional Style. Not nearly as fancy and cluttered but still the feelings I want. Thank you.

Great information. I definitely fall in the transitional category. My home is traditional and I have been adding modern elements over the years. So transitional is what I have achieved and I must say they work very well together!

I'm in no way and interior designer so sometimes being frustrated by liking some elements of each of them was giving me a headache!!
I must have a unique mix style because there are aspects of farmhouse, traditional, French country, rustic, Boho, industrial, art nouveau & shabby chic I like. I love color in the common areas, comfortable with ornate touches, pieces or nods. I love stone, exposed brick & wood. I love antiques, things from around the world & unique. Thanks for teaching me!

My style is a transition between modern and industrial. I love space, clean lines, not clutter and mainly white, black and grey with touches of metal and wood. Works for me..easy to clean always looks tidy.
I’m a little boho modern farmhouse chic. I love switching it up with ever evolving accessories!

What i love is the country style thats easy to do and easy to find pieces even at ikea even the wooden table & chairs..and next is the boho style or the bohemian , a lot texture ,color which i love..fantastic collection..!

Good explanation. We've lived in 2 places. Our current house, almost 20 years, still does not feel like home. I like different aspects of almost every style you've talked about. I get overwhelmed just thinking about how to style or decorate our home. it's bare, not much on the walls and no rugs!

Minimalistic, neutral and "use what i have" is my go to styles. So i think this is a scandinavian and boho or a mix of those. Love your video! :)

I definitely have a mixture of boho/mid century/slight farmhouse styles. I layer in plants and macrame with mid century furniture items and black metal pieces. Thanks for making it really easy to differentiate them all!
