I love Tarpon Springs! I first went there when we lived in Tampa in the 1960's and we used to go to a fantastic Greek restaurant called Pappas. I think it closed around 2005. After I got married and we lived in Ocala my husband, son and I went over there so I could share the nostalgia. When I moved here to Kentucky, I met a Greek woman who has a food truck and we talked about Tarpon Springs. She said a lot of the Greeks from there have gone back to Greece because they don't like how Florida has become. I don't know about that. Anyway, thanks so much for sharing.

Yes Pappas Restaurant. I just commented on that. They had the best Prime Rib. Atmosphere and service was awesome.

Glad to see Tarpon Springs get some love. That place doesn't get talked or shown much in TH-cam videos. Not the ones I usually watch at least. I've been there once and ate at a Greek restaurant, back during the late 2010s.

I love going to Tarpon Springs. In addition to having a lot to do there, it’s very scenic as well. I’ll have to check out that pinball arcade sometime. Looks like they have a lot of fun games although it’s a bummer that Tron game wasn’t working. I would love to play one of those again.
I also enjoyed hearing some more of your backstory. I always wanted to be a drummer, but never learned how to play.

Great video Jay! I have lots of wonderful memories as a young girl in the late 70’s and 80’s going there with my Grandma. She lived over in Port Richey and I would spend summers visiting. We always would go to the same restaurant, I thought it was called “George’s” but I think I may be confusing it with the name of the boat. It was so long ago. She passed away in 1989. I have never been back since. I remember shopping in all those gift shops, always leaving with something special. Sitting here remembering it all, I can absolutely say that the most special of that time, was the time I got to spend with her. I got through the whole video until the end without tearing up. Your “there’s much ahead” got me! Thanks for this wonderful video!

Same memories of annual summers in Sarasota visiting Nana thru the 1970's. She & all the retired yankee transplant women who lived in her apt. community long gone but not forgotten. Same with old Florida. Only exists in my memories. Very little of present day FL reminds me of the good old days.

Great video mix ❤️ 😊 I’m a big CW history buff. The CSA soldier’s resting place & marker might be only one at that particular cemetery but thousands of African-Americans served in the Confederacy. They received military pensions also. CSA makers came to be in the 1930’s as a WPA works projects. Check out sometimes the true life story of Holt Collier 😊 famous CSA solider and bear 🐻 hunter…how the “Teddy Bear “🧸 came to be.
PS-do you think the “guestbook” you discovered on your last visit to the cemetery was an GEO cache logbook someone before did not hide back??

"Mother Meres was born Amelia Petzold Meres in Germany in 1845, and came to the US as a child of 5. In 1882 she moved to Tarpon Springs with her husband and she ran the Fern Hotel there. According to a story published in the Tarpon Springs Tribune this mural was dedicated in her honor in 2010, 84 years after her death in 1923. It credits her accomplishments as planting cyads, which eventually gave the Tarpon Springs Cycadia Cemetery it’s name. She threw the first Christmas Party in the area, and helped to plant trees to beautify the town." - from the blog A Snowbird's Life Through the Lens

The old story of Morris Lofton is that the metal around his headstone is not of a gate/fence. it is of an iron bed. It was Lofton's request to be buried "in bed." like the labyrinth of stones. love spending a cool weather day in Tarpon Springs--walk from the Library to the bayou where the Epiphany is held in January (sometimes one can see manatees in the bayou) to walking or taking a trolley down to Dodecanese. thank you for the walk down memory lane Tampa jay and Cris.
