    Hi :) Hope you can answer my question. I am looking for a camera to use for my videos, where I basically need to have focus on me, not landscapes. I decided to go for the sony a6000 but the fact that I can't see myself while I'm recording is too bad for me, it's something I really need. So now I am stuck between the sony a5100 or canon m3. The price where I live it's almost the same. Can you please tell me your opinion? Thank you!

    • @Camerahoarders
      @Camerahoarders  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Lady Get the Canon - it has external microphone input and you will prorbably want good sound for the type of video I see you have on you channel. Built-in microphones are never especially good.

    • @thelady
      @thelady 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Camerahoarders Thank you for answering, I dont wanna bother you but I have the last doubt. I record with an iPhone so this would be my first camera, I was wondering between a canon m3 and a canon 700d (or t5i I guess) should I still go for the mirrorless? Thank you for your patience, really :))

    • @Camerahoarders
      @Camerahoarders  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      700D has a bit older sensor technology dating back to 2008, I think M3 is better choice. Even more, it is smaller so there's more chance you will carry it anywhere with you and get more shots or videos.

    It's as good now as it was when it came out, and can be purchased today for less than £350 New, making it a bargain.
    No other 1inch sensor camera on the market offers an evf at this price point.
    The upgraded tz200 offers a longer zoom but at the cost of a slightly slower lens.
    There's always trade offs.. not the best for low light, but better than any smart phone or smaller sensor camera's that can cost almost as much.
    Still have mine, blazing fast autofocus in good light, better than most of its competitors

    nice review as always thanks as always - I got my ZS100 few weeks back - if I understood you right , you said there was no Touch To Shoot - or Touch Shutter - There is - it can be turned on from LCD option on the right in LCD - there are 3 options Fn on bottom and then a Less then arrow - it is inside there what impresses me very much is how Panasonic has but all the nice features from higher end models into this little body including Touch to focus and Touch To shoot - many Fn buttons including Soft Fn buttons -
    Yes EVF is small - but hard to expect much in such a small body - yes my RX100m4 has a bit larger EVF but i worry about delicate mechanism to pup up and of course it overheats in 4K in warm weather at 3min and has max 5min recording -
    So rather frustrating - I also have the Canon G7X - which I like for the 24-100mm F1.8-2.8 and it has touch shutter - but I find the IQ better in the Sony RX100m4 - images are a bit sharper - to me the Images from the Panasonic ZS100 are very nice - just as nice as from the RX100m4 - I am very impressed with ISO performance at 1600 and 3200 for such a small camera - it was a surplice to me - colors are really vivid and nice - yes the 4 way buttons are a bit small - and will be an issue for those with very big hands - but of course for those with very big hands any tiny camera will be an issue :)
    I am just happy it has EVF - in such a small camera one typically always uses the LCD except in super sunny days - so I think it is ok - I am very impressed with the processor speed - how quick it processes 4K bursts for example - and 4k video - just really nice -
    Yes I would like to see a different texture on body - and hopefully 3rd party makers will make a leather to glue on - like I did with my RX100 :) made it look cool and it gives it a better grip - The other wish, a tilt LCD -
    but besides those to - would like to have - it is just a fantastic little travel and all-around camera - yes I still sometime carry my RX100m4 or G7X in the other coat pocket if light is not so good - but I think Panasonic did a really nice job with the ZS100 - I have not gotten my ZS100 to overheat, Sony you need to talk to Panasonic :) and Canon should talk to Panasonic on features and nice menu - I think Canon could do so much better with their G7X as far as features
    The 4k image modes are fantastic - so is Post Focus and the many very nice art modes / scene modes -
    Now we just need Panasonic would make another body same size with 24-100mm F1.8-100mm -

    • @Camerahoarders
      @Camerahoarders  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jon Hermannsson Tnx for the tip on touch shutter. I just checked on TZ80 - it has it as is the case with TZ100. Don't know how I missed that one :)

    • @ScottsReviews
      @ScottsReviews 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have both the Sony m4 and the zs100 trying to make my decision. If you had to choose what would you?

    • @jonhermannsson9231
      @jonhermannsson9231 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +scamhealy Good question - but a difficult one - if you live in Sunny area then the ZS100 for sure - If you shot more often in very low light then the RX100m4 due to the F1-F2.8 lens -
      In reality one really needs booth - RX100m4 for the low light situations but the ZS100 for every other situation just about -
      The ZS100 has the advantage of the 25-100mm lens and nice menu and overall more features - although the RX100m4 has few extra features having to do with 4k - but to me the 4k features in the ZS100 are more practical besides the ZS100 can record 15min movies in 4k without overheating - where as the RX100m4 has max record time of 5min before it starts overheating - and in warm weather 3min - I have never been able to overheat the ZS100 -
      Both are nice cameras - for me the Touch LCD - Touch Shutter - the 4K burst modes - post focus - menu system - the nice art affects - the many Fn buttons ( hard + soft ) the long focal range of 25-250 just make the ZS100 my favorite -
      Not that the ZS100 is bad in low light - I am very impressed with the images at ISO 3200 in such a small camera - just that of course a F1.8-2.8 lens will do better - but the Sony RX100m4 has a much more limited range at 24-70mm -
      It is just not possible to make a 25-250mm F1.8-2.8 - I wish -
      So Panasonic is not directly competing - the Canon G7X is more of a competitor to the RX100m4 but has a focal range advantage at 24-100mm F1.8-2.8 - but has no EVF and no 4k - but has Touch LCD and Touch Shutter and is much cheaper - and of course the ZS100 is about $200 cheeper then the RX100m4 -
      So both really needed but if I where to choose just one - I would pic the ZS100 for its long focal range and many features and lower price

    • @jonhermannsson9231
      @jonhermannsson9231 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Camerahoarders Look forward to your TZ80 video - glad you found the Touch Shutter - I love how Panasonic has put all the G line features in the ZS100 - fantastic -

    • @Camerahoarders
      @Camerahoarders  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Jon Hermannsson Yeah, Panasonic is known to have many features of higher-end cameras in more affordable models - they don't dumb down their products like Canon.

  • @jonhermannsson9555
    @jonhermannsson9555 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    to me the ZS is for sure the best travel zoom in 2016 - loaded with features - yes some compromises with that focal range - in that size with 1 inch sensor -
    easy enough to tape on some rubber / leather for better sticking to hand - there is touch shutter -

    • @Camerahoarders
      @Camerahoarders  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, just glue some rubber on the front for better grip and this camera is a true winner.

    • @Camerahoarders
      @Camerahoarders  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, cameras as small as this rarely have hot shoe. But you can use external flash with optical trigger - built in flash will activate external one. I don't know if that Panasonic has this function, check the manual.

  • @dahit1978

    Hi, thx for the review. I have some questions. Could you tell me the sound quality of a 4k video please? Is it AAC in 128kbs or something else? I am asking for it, because I am a concert filmer. ;)
    How long can you shoot videos until the battery dies? Does the camera have an auto gain control for high volumes at concerts? Does the US version also have the 15min video limit? Greetings the fly

    • @Camerahoarders
      @Camerahoarders  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Ultimatefly Audio is 48kHz, AAC, 125KBit. All version are limited at 15min for 4K. Now that i look at my video samples, I don't have a single one in loud envoirement - I have no idea how will audio sound on a concert. I can only tell you it doesn't cope well with wind noise. Anyway, i will upload unedited 4k samples over night, you will be able to see them tommorow on my samples channel.

    • @dahit1978
      @dahit1978 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Camerahoarders Thank you for your quick respond. So, all worldwide cameras have the 15min limit? :((
      That is very sad. I always test such a camera in front of a real big hifi speaker (3way or more) and test it with some Dire Straits and Prodigy, to see highs and lows on the music spectrum. ;) Maybe you have a big speaker and could test that? Where can I find your sample channel? It must be on vimeo, right?

    • @Camerahoarders
      @Camerahoarders  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Ultimatefly No, its just another channel here on TH-cam... anyway, links are now in description field below the video. Sorry but I cannot test audio anymore, I've returned the camera last week to Panaosnic office here in Croatia and its probably allready in someone else'e hands. Maybe somebody else who bought it allready and reads this can try and report findings here.

    Is it possible to switch between pal and ntsc video mode?

    Thanks so much.

    • @Camerahoarders
      @Camerahoarders  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Blade Shutter lag is almost non existant, it fires straight after acquiring focus and you can take another photo while it writes the first one to memory card in backgorund. I've never checked but there must be an option te select PAL or NTSC.

      @Camerahoarders  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I don't know exactly about battery life for constant video recording, but i recon its in 45-60 minutes range at best. It's a small battery.

    • @misthalu
      @misthalu 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bummer.... that's not long.
      Can it charge from USB? Maybe a battery stick would work?

    • @Camerahoarders

      You can charge it that way, but not while you use it. As soon as you flick the power switch to ON, charging stops.

    • @Camerahoarders
      @Camerahoarders  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +scamhealy Yeah, Sony has sharper and brighter lens, much better viewfinder and those neat slow-mo movie modes. But when I recall how frustrated it was for me to use that camera, there's no way i would buy it. That's a gadget, not a camera. TZ100 is a joy to use - very simple even when i want to use it in manual modes. It also has more optical zoom (25-250 vs very limiting 24-70 on Sony) which is more practical for me. TZ100 is all about allowing you to take the shot in every occasion without hassle. TZ100 for me please.

      +Camerahoarders one feature I noticed that the zs100 has vs the Sony iv is macro zoom. I was impressed how close in focus the zs100 can get. Sony I could not duplicate this feature.

    That slow lens is a deal breaker. That's a real shame because it's close to the perfect compact for me.

    Camerahoarders, I am interested in taking bracketed exposures, in aperature priority mode, for use in post processing using HDR software. After printing out the 400+ page manual, I still have not read and understood enough to figure it all out - I'll get there, eventually, I think! From what I understand, so far, bracketing RAW shots is not possible? I have a great tool, called "Promote Control", that overrides the firmware in my Cannon to allow me to capture as many shots I want at whatever EV steps I need. Unfortunately, the Panasonic is not supported by this controller. My question is, can I take bracketed shots, in camera, without them being turned into a final composed jpeg? I need to process them myself. Thank you for your video tutorial. You did a fine job!

      Bracketing is under drive modes on this camera, it should work for RAW also. Page 206 in user manual.

    I also watched your very good review on Panasonic GX880, and now I have a serious doubt about what to buy. Considering the price difference, I'm starting to think that GX880 is a better deal than TZ100, as you have the possibility to exchange lenses. I want to shoot video, but 4K wont be my setting most of time, so the 5 minute limit wont disturb that much... and now here in France there is a pack with two lenses for 449,00€ (www.boulanger.com/ref/1147372#). I'm really tempted...
    Anything else you suggest to be considered?
    Thank you very much for your great work!

      Well, TZ100 is a great all-in-one solution and fits in a large pocket. If you want hassle-free use this is the one to get.
      But GX880 with a nice prime lens will be on another level. If you want to dive into photography a bit more and are willing to exchange lenses this is the way to go.

      +Rohite ® For me Panasonic all the way. More optical zoom, more logical menu and controls. Sony has somegreat features like slow motion but is a pain in the *** to use. :)

      +Camerahoarders thank you for your view on it and your are right about sony. guess i'll have to wait for rx100 v to be released later this year and decide after that since i already own a mark iv sony.

      is there significant image and video quality difference between these two cameras? you mentioned that sharpness gets worse when you zoom in

    • @Camerahoarders
      @Camerahoarders  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, they are similar. Yes, sharpness gets worse on max zoom but at it still zooms way beyond Sony.

      Are you equating his accent to a speech disorder?? Or are you really dismissing his entire review because of a very slight lisp? Wow... either way it is... well, extremely narrow-minded of you, to put it more nicely than you deserve. In fact, his English is very good for a non-native speaker and is perfectly understandable.
      Me, I'm looking to buy a compact travel camera and I found this review to be one of the best I have seen so far on this camera, because it is refreshingly to the point, and relevant all the way through - so I am very happy I found it.

      I cannot believe you would make such a rude remark. This video was the best, most concise, clearly enunciated, information intense review I have seen yet on this camera. I can't believe he packed so much info in a short space of time. As another commentator said, please have your hearing checked.
