    good stuff bro. a great pleasure to watch an experience passed on...Note: its not how much a person knows, its how much a person has experienced first hand. Thanks

    Great video. We re-flowed all solder joints, a few twice after initial testing, and got all but one to work. We have one blank line through the "V" on VOL, but that is all. My solder gauge and iron are too large to attempt an actual new solder joint. In any case, it is 99% better than it was. Thank you!

      Am glad it worked for you, you can use something like Hakko 808 it'll make it much easier to desolder

    Thanks for the video, my brother purchased a Mazda 6 with the same problem, I never had any issues with 07 Mazda3 lcd, I will attempt to resolder the joints with my smd heat gun

    You should use paint marks to mark where what screws go it just helps at the end that’s what I do but great job bro keep the work up and the knowledge flowing 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽

    Oh boy, time to go bust out the reflow station… haven’t done that in years let’s see if I end up at the junkyard pulling another screen soon 😅

      Good luck, hope it works out

    I tried to reflow the solder before watching this video, didn't work for me and just gave up trying to fix it. The top part where the clam shell cubby is located also has broken hinges so I'm just going to find one at pick a part or settle with a busted display. it still shows the air temp and direction of air so its not all gone, after market receiver will give me the rest of the details..Glad reflowing the solder worked for you hope the car is treating you well!

      crazyeye1, thanks for commenting, if you have desoldering gun like hakko 808 you can remove the solder from all the pins to access the possessor behind the screen and reflow with heat gun.
      for the cubby I reinforced the hinge joint by heating paper clip and enbded it to the plastic, then replaced the round metal with solid rod made from wood the one people use for making kabobs lol.
      replaced the Mazda with avalon, video on the channel.

      Newbies Work on Cars I have soldering braid and will remove all the solder and add fresh new solder. I was able to fix the hinge by making new holes and running wire through it and using springs i repurposed from dollar store clamps. You can’t even tell when the unit is reinstalled and it’ll hold up against the Vegas summer. I just need to fix the LCD. I got one from the junk yard but that was way worse than the one I had originally lol. I have two to practice on and will do my best since I have a much better iron and the braid to remove the old stuff with

    My clock gives randomized incomplete numbers, and some vertical lines went dark. Do you reckon there's any hope for my display? Thanks for the vid anyway

    • @NWCI
      @NWCI  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you're familiar with soldering, try the fix I did. Otherwise new display needed. You might find good display in junkyard/scrapyard

    • @GrimFilth

      @@NWCI the car functions without the display. Anyhow and i'll try this or will put the cirquit board in the oven as a last resort. But i'm considering some fancy new console as well, which has a BT or usb connection, controllable from the steering wheel. Any recommendations?

    Hi there, when you soldered all the pins, what pins did you solder? I notice a few places in the board that have little holes where it looks like it should be soldered but isn't. Should I solder those too? Let me know if you need a pic.

    Good job w/ vid glad you got yours fixed , how did you solder each pin without solder touching pin next to it lol I never tried with so many pins bunched closely

    • @NWCI

    • @NWCI
      @NWCI  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      travellerinfo , very known issue, also the chrome piece on the grille brakes off and you have to get the whole grille. luckily grille is around $30 off ebay.

    Did you ever fix the broken pin on the cubby over the radio? if so, how did you do it?

    • @NWCI
      @NWCI  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup, I glued the housing where the pin sits, it was cracked, the replaced the pin with piece of wood from kabab skewer 😂

  • @zmaninpgh

    How come you didn't show the actual soldering?

    • @NWCI
      @NWCI  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don Zink, soldering iron fell of the table during filming and broke off. decided to take that part off.

    can't you just buy a new display and replace it?

    • @BPoweredLove

      Of course you can. I'm betting you knew quite well that you have the option to replace part, not only repair the part.

      Didn't have the (automatic) climate control in that car, so that option will be off all the time.
