I have been using an airbrush for many years, and I still muck it up, still we learn by our mistakes. Great restore, like these old tin boats and other tin toys. Mick Thailand

Your comments just made it all worth the efforts - so happy you enjoyed it. Doing paint with air brush is not as easy as I originally thought but will continue as practice makes perfect:)
@@DANYMITERESTORATION Learning to airbrush is definitely something that takes time! But I promise you you did a great job for your 1st time . You did a really good job on first time air brushing. But remember this it works for all paint projects. Always give your project a good primer coat. It will make the final colors much brighter and cleaner looking. This rule works for everything from refinishing an old nightstand to fine restoration.
Hello Elizabeth - thank you so much for you advice - I tried it again on my Wolverine submarine, I would be really interested if you see it and let me know if I did better. I believe that I am getting the hang of it but would love to hear your opinion. Thank you in advance!
Hey Danny, ignore the nay sayers… show me your projects! It takes some trial and error to get the paint to air mixture just right! 🤔 I love those old German made boats… I have one from the 1920’s, that someone did a nice restoration on. Getting the tin heat and lead right is an art in itself too! Carry on my friend, we all need the new challenges, that’s how we learn! 👍🏻😎🇨🇦📸
You are really amazing my friend, so appreciate your kind words. I know it was not as perfect as I would love it to be but I see it as trial and error. I can do better but you are right - it takes practice and I will carry on:) If nothing else it shows me appreciation for this art and understanding that it is not easy to do!
Good restoration, but but personally, I would have applied a see two coat two primer, and sanded in order to have a very smooth surface, before the painting itself
Nice work getting the clockwork going again, less is usually more with these old mechanisms and having the wisdom to just spray a bit of contact cleaner or penetrant oil and work it back and forth is better than trying to take it apart. Now it's working I advise sewing machine oil as a lubricant moving forward. As for the paint job, airbrushing is a pain in the backside and you got a good result all things considered. Air brushes aren't really designed for bulk coverage and I think you'd have found the pinstriping would have had less edge feathering if you used a glossy spray for the two base colours and then masked and airbrushed the pinstriping on afterwards. As always though, loving your channel.
Matt - I really appreciate you taking a look and detailed advice, air brushing was definitely that - pain. But I will take what I learn and also what you shared and will try to succeed better next time. I did have fun trying something new and that boat does look better and works now! Thank you for coming back and checking my work and stay well!
You should remove the paint with baking soda and hot water to penetrate inside the boat. Shouldn't you?? Anyway, my admiration from München. Great working!! 🇩🇪🧔🏻👍🏻🇪🇸
