I'm seeing a lot of people asking for context as well some people being "misinformed" to put it kindly so I'll try to explain a little bit. Basically Calli was getting red superchats telling her not to hang out with certain people, specifically CDawgVa, aka Connor from Trash Taste whom she is friends with. The reason they say that (or rather the most "reasonable" one) is that he "badmouthed Hololive" except he didn't. This was like from a year ago. Connor was talking to Ironmouse about job applications and lying on them. He used Hololive as an example, the biggest hurdle, the hardest part is passing the application part and actually getting the job but once you do you have basically made it because of the power of the Hololive brand. So even *if* you had lied on your application and didn't have the work ethic or talent you would still see success. The girls get thousands of subscribers and followers *before they even debut* and you don't even know if they're actually talented or entertaining. That's the kind of thing and brand recognition he was talking about. He didn't say anything like it doesn't require talent or that they were talentless. The problem was he fumbled his wording so it was a bit confusing. Another example I heard to explain it is getting drafted or signed onto a major sports team. You could be total a bust and suck but you're still getting major bank and thus success. There's also the fact she was on Trash Taste not that long ago and if Connor had actually said they were talentless etc and meant it, why would Cover allow her or want her back on? I hope that answered any possible questions. Oh and the other "reason" is some people (a hopefully extremely small amount) don't want them spending time with men, that type of thing.
@Vindicator It really is completely absurd, isn't it? On an unrelated note, nice pfp and name choice (I've been a massive Star Wars fan since the pre-Disney Legends days, and the tech, ships and weaponry were always among my favorite aspects of the franchise).
Someone is gonna twist this in a way where they send money to a calli making fun of a streamer, just so they have the chance, to see a Calli Donation in said streamer channel.
Her stream, her rules. She's been super professional from the beginning and the way she handles these situations is a top class act. She wouldn't even need to address this on her streams, she could just not read them and go and give the money to the people without having warned chat, but she preferred to be open and transparent about it, which is really a much healthier approach. People complaining about what Hololive streams should address their complains to management through an email. People who used money to hate on people who is not even related to the group, has been warned that they are not going to be acknowledged. Just be cool, guys, if they something makes you angry, step away. If something makes you bored, look for the content that entertains you elsewhere. If you you have constructive criticism, send it to management. If you want to support and share your thoughts with the streamer and ensure they would read it, then send the superchat, but only send positive messages, or funny ones, or entertaining ones, or helpful ones. But don't spread hate, anger, and toxic behaviors through with your money, that's just not healthy at all
Yeah I don't get it. Do they really not realise that, even though it has a negative message attached to it, they're still directly supporting her by giving her money? lmao. it's wild.

Part of it is just being a big streamer but I think that attitude also has to do with them being a hololive "idol" ... like for EN and ID thats not really such a thing but from the japanese side there are quite a lot of people that think the streamers have to behave a certain way because of their " job" as an idol an when they dont they do a bad job at being an idol. I think the western side just views them as normal streamers quite a bit more (obviously that is a generalization not fitting to individuals from both sides). I'm already planning to get a Kiara membership in the near future, because she gets so much pointless hate for things. I was surprised someone would use superchats just to force their opinion on Calli, it sucks that she has to deal with reading them during superchat... just let vtubers be themselves. It's just the way it is with any fandom. In any, every fandom there's a small, fringe percentage of people turning into "toxic fans." Toxic fans think their support and devotion and love to something/someone, means that something/someone is obligated to do things in the way the toxic fans want. It's a type of obsessive love that begins to want to dominate and control, instead of respect the subject's independence. I've seen it in literally every type of fandom ranging from pop stars.. actors and movie franchises.. games.. comics.. manga and anime. It's always there. The ones that think they have some right to intervene and control just because they're a fan. The ones that think deep devotion entitles them to do certain things. The types that think, "oh I've superchatted this much amount of money this many times, so she's gotta acknowledge me and listen to what I say." ... it's good that Calli decided to ignore it. That's the best. Don't address it, let the management know and let them handle it.

@@windhelmguard5295 I'd beg to differ. I can definitely see someone who worked hard to make a carreer, but who has neglected to build good and lasting personal connections with other people, using their hard-earned money to fill the gap of loneliness. This can also take the form of parasocial behaviour, where they feel they have the right to control the talent because they are such big supporters. In fact, a succesful carreer combined with a lack of social interactions seems like the perfect conditions for developing a twisted personality. @@ecyor0 It's perfectly doable to have an expendable income of a few hundred dollars/euro's every month with a decent paying job if you don't have big future expenses planned such as children or building a house. Of course it depends on where you live and on your education, but amongst my friends and family, it's not unusual for us to spend that kind of money on our hobbies. One friend in particular, who is single and still lives at home has so much money left over, he spend over 300 euro's in one go, just to get started with magic the gathering. He did not get his job through connections and his parents aren't particularly wealthy, but he's educated, works in IT and his job pays well. I'll admit that I am from arguably upper middle class family and most of my friends are also from middle class families.
This need more recognition tbh
Thanks for providing some context, I had no idea what this was about.
Thx kindly
The worst part is this is all just a conjecture because connor never rectify it

i thought the same thing. you know SOMEONE is gonna do it, just to try to be funny

Nah, taxes, yt cuts, company cuts. Not great.
Just send them SC's directly

Entitled man children really be crying out here over vtubers to this level
Part of it is just being a big streamer but I think that attitude also has to do with them being a hololive "idol" ... like for EN and ID thats not really such a thing but from the japanese side there are quite a lot of people that think the streamers have to behave a certain way because of their " job" as an idol an when they dont they do a bad job at being an idol. I think the western side just views them as normal streamers quite a bit more (obviously that is a generalization not fitting to individuals from both sides). The people that think like that are not really there for the person but just for the persona if that makes sense...
There is a reason they try to hide their true identities. And I think that is a good thing.

Toxic fans think their support and devotion and love to something/someone, means that something/someone is obligated to do things in the way the toxic fans want. It's a type of obsessive love that begins to want to dominate and control, instead of respect the subject's independence. I've seen it in literally every type of fandom ranging from pop stars.. actors and movie franchises.. games.. comics.. manga and anime. It's always there.

And working hard to get a carreer can often involve making personal sacrifices and losing touch with your social circle as you focus too much on work.
@@AricHaldan0782 Speaking as someone with money; success and money are rarely correlated with effort.
@@AricHaldan0782 I appreciate where you're coming from, but anyone who has enough expendable income to spend hundreds of dollars at a time for what amounts to a 5-minute thrill is at that income level where hard work and skill fade into irrelevance, and their position is primarily down to connections and generational wealth (and in the best case scenario, pure dumb luck). The idea that we live in a meritocracy that rewards effort is one of the more poisonous lies we get fed.
I'm happy that slowly vtubers are putting boundaries to their viewers (its not just the applied rules in their chats but through experience vtubers know some sneaky nasty stuffs some of their viewers can say or do, so they can add more rules, they're taking action and calling those people out
There was one time someone donated $10 to a female streamer playing a shooter game - he bets her to win 10 matches and donate 10$ each time she wins.
Then after she won he proceeded to insult her with the first donation, and that's when the streamer realizes he's actively trying to make her lose
"I'm gonna take SC money and send SC!"
Meanwhile, TH-cam is rubbing its palms at the double cut it gets...
that's why I'll never send a superchat in any of their streams
This is an excellent PSA from her. A few people still try to cause trouble on the Gura side but...well I pity them. Many don't even get any attention at all. It's the worst place to try to cause trouble.
Kiara has had an urgent need for active mods from almost the beginning, and probably will continue to do so. Calli, I think the tough-girl image just attracts a few special types of stupid?
Zero blame there, just that anyone with fans will probably find a small clump with some pattern of bad behavior. I am leaving aside trolls and tourists, they latch onto whatever catches their eye.
As someone who watches Gura most, I think she still has some fans who go and lobby other streamers instead of causing trouble in her stream directly. They can be overly devoted.
What kind of trouble concerning Gura? I haven't seen much
unfortunately kiara has had a somewhat large negative following for almost a decade, its died down much more now
@@DogratDavis I watch the chat occasionally while watching Gura and you'll see a few hate comments go by if you slow it down enough. Then there's also the political messages people demanding she take a stance for their various identity groups. Some can be pretty crazy but most just pass by quickly and aren't even seen by most people.
Gura's chat environment is already a mess anyway, trying to do sh*t on Gura's chat will earn you nothing lol. You can't mess a thing that's already messed to begin with.
@@Aegis--- Dang, a decade? That’s crazy to think about, she’s only a couple months younger than me.
What boggles my mind is that you yourself lose money just to say something mean. You're basically taking a double L at this point. Lost money and respect.
Is this about the connor thing?
Either way, I'm proud of her for being strong.
Edit: (some people already said it, but just in case) as far as I know, connor said that vtubers don't need to worry about being good at entertaining once they get accepted by an idol group, and some people took it as him calling them lazy. Cali then talked to connor and said that he should be careful in how he phrases things because people will take him out of context. Then someone who took that negative stance made a few superchats on cali's stream and she stood up to that user. If that's all true, then that's what she's following up with.
I could be wrong, but I think that's what it is. Thank you everyone for being chill.
what connor thing? did some SC mean things about him?
Is the "connor thing" calli giving him subs?
@@RafaAnto I know Calli gifted him some Twitch subs to celebrate him finally beating the Jump King dlc, but beyond that I have no idea what recent interaction they might’ve had that people would think justifies sending a superchat just to hate on him.
That is, assuming this had something to do with Connor in the first place; it very well could’ve been about someone else entirely.
What Connor thing? 👀
@@RafaAnto It’s about the misunderstanding about Connors opinion on vtubers, he was sharing his thoughts on the topic but vtubers stands decided to take it as slander.
Stuff like “ you shouldn’t associate with him” or “ why are you friends with a hater?” and some borderline nsfw really not OK stuff about her holo and irl friends
Basically she’s finally putting her foot down
Edit: i’m just gonna update this common every now and again when I find new info
"Like is it that hard to just be cool?"
Ouch.
Our dad is so fucking cool I love her!
People literally paying $100 to say something disrespectful when being nice wouldn't cost them anything.
The "giving back the money to the streamer they insulted" part is very big-brain, but EASILY exploitable and can be used as a manipulation. I hope she at least doesn't use her main account and just create a different throwaway that has 0 connections with her.
Wtf? People sending $100+ superchats to throw shade? Never knew that was a thing
Looks like, once again, some of the people who have the money are not the people who deserve the money.
@@shannonolivas9524 Well put and sadly, very true.
It's the most cringe thing you could do as an adult.
I assume most are males, which makes it even more cringe.
You seem to be under the impression that the people who would do that are rational normal people. Irrational controlling bullies don't care about the money, they care about being in control, so if that's what it takes to be the most visible and most controlling they can be over "their" vtuber, then that's what they'll do.
Mama Calli knows how to handle these situations , props to her
i appreciate her professionalism in this matter, in all honesty thought she should discuss this kind of superchats with her manager and her mods
Good for her, I'll never understand why it's so hard for some people to just be a civilized human being.
@Sindingbat Personally, I don't even consider people like that to be human beings at all. If someone wants to act like an inhuman creature with no concept of real morality or self-control, than I have absolutely no problem with treating them as such. And if I'm also in the wrong for doing that in return, then so be it. They've had more than enough time and opportunity to get their acts together, and whatever negative repercussions they face for their actions, they've brought onto themselves.

I doubt they’re even human to begin with
@@christhatcher2742 it takes zero effort to be nice, so no sympathy for those who choose not to. I can get down with it
