Just came back from a Royal cruise went to Coco Cay, Grand Cayman and Falmouth I completely agree with everything you say about this place! My mother in law my wife myself and our 16 month old that was a lot with very young child. We went outside the port gate and didn’t make it 5 feet and we had 4 “tour” guides from the area all over us pressuring for a walking tour around the area. Although the man was very respectful and nice just very pushy. We politely declined many offers walked around the block and my anxiety hit the roof because of the protection of my child so we decided to return to port and had a good time actually but as you said in the video it’s all the same stuff. And as you mention we came across someone who said they hand carve all the material their selves and I thought the same exact thing why aren’t you carving right now to replenish inventory? However we did have a wonderful time due to it being my son myself and my wife’s first cruise ( not my mother in law though she goes ALL the time practically lives in cruises ) but I would definitely suggest anyone going to this port or any other really buyer beware. I also agree with your statement about doing excursions like how much time do you really have? I know just the walking around and going to the beaches at each island we went and shopping took up most of our time so doing excursions is cool but in my opinion takes up the majority of your time. A lot of the people that did excursions on our trip this past week weren’t very pleased or satisfied with their experience. So I would suggest to heed any advice you receive and do your research before taking a cruise.

There are lots of shops in this gated area where you can shop souvenirs or enjoy some drinks at Margaritaville and smaller venues. If you do venture out of the port gates, there are plenty of local eateries and a very colonial village to enjoy. Do your research BEFORE you leave the ship and learn why Falmouth is a very special part of Jamaica! The mayor’s office is one of the historic buildings right in front of the port gates. I have to agree with much of what is being said. My wife and I walked about for 30 minutes scratching our heads at this stop. I’m of Indian descent and I’ve been over on the subcontinent many times and have seen how they do things over there so I have a very strong sense for these things and knew straight away that the shopping in the “port” was a hustle. We thought at first that you aren’t allowed out of the port but we ended up on a bicycle ride on one of the three wheelers. I must say the people we met outside were great, Sandra who owns Kimbo Pot was is lovely person, the food and atmosphere there was great. The poverty in Falmouth is obvious though and reminded me of a lot I’ve seen in India and Pakistan. In actual fact, the situation in Falmouth was actually much worse than over in those places, at least in India there are temples who tend to the poor and will feed anyone for free etc. Royal Caribbean was a very different experience for us this time. The overall service was massively diminished and the stops we made were all just extensions of the boat, ie there was nothing much you could experience out on an excursion that you couldn’t get some similar feeling with being on the boat apart from a few sports related things but not everyone is into screaming around on jet skis etc. I would have much preferred to see a lot more history but when the real infrastructure of the places you’re stopping in is minimal at best and in a decaying state of repair, there aren’t many options. I think this has now put me off cruising. I just felt I was in a bubble, there we were safe on our side of life and on the other side there were people who didn’t have two cents to rub together. The main thing RC achieved for me on this cruise was to affirm my desire to go down a much more philanthropic route in life. Perhaps if RC go down the route of helping to invest and build on the real side of these stops then it would make for a better overall situation in the future ie for “real” tourism and not this bubble tourism situation they have. Perhaps that is actually one of the aims? I don’t know. For now I don’t think I’ll be going on a cruise again but we’ll see.
Of course the cruiseline keeps you in a “bubble.” When people feel safe and comfortable, they spend money. The cruiseline is an expert at keeping your money and enticing you to spend more. RCL owns the port in Jamaica and they vet who gets to conduct business there, and take a big cut of the income. And if India did such a great job of taking care of its own, why the hell is half of India in Canada now?
Seems like a lot of people had a good time doing excursions. I suppose, if you’re going to enjoy yourself, you’re gonna have to spend money and go somewhere otherwise, you are going to be bored.
dont hear me wrong, im absolutely not averse to spending money. i just should have done more research into the options at this particular port. nothing really appealed to me
I am a Jamaican living in the US. I would like to add my two cents to say that the government of JA along with the big corporations on the island of which many are foreign-owned, have sterilized the tourist offerings to "so-called" keep tourists safe. I would not go to Falmouth mainly because if appears very boring there. Unfortunately, the government has not made the rest of the island a safe place for every human being to enjoy. Information is beginning to unfold that the high crime rate propaganda on the island is being PUSHED by corporations on the island or off-shore to keep ALL TOURIST into these MAN MADE areas so they can BUY the stuff provided by the corporation, The same thing can be said for the ALL-INCLUSIVE hotels they keep the propaganda about high crime rate and robbery to scare the tourist from venturing out of the hotel compounds and so tourist stays on campus and only SPENDS money WITH THE CORPORATION. The scheme is very well thought-out PLAN to keep the tourists from traveling AROUND the island, keep the money flowing in the corporation's pockets, AND keep tourists from seeing the real Jamaica.
Hi so agree with u 💯....I'm from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 and it's the same exact thing....u can get anywhere in any country...but they always like to class the Caribbean as they worst countries in the world....I went to Turks and Caicos in 2023 and I ventured out of the resort and saw the real Turks and Caicos... just like anywhere else just be mindful and do your research.... Be Bless.
Why you living in the US if it's not that bad there? In 2022, Jamaica had 1,508 murders, for a murder rate of 53.34 per 100,000 people, the highest murder rate in the world. The US State Department says don't travel there "Violent crimes, such as home invasions, armed robberies, sexual assaults, and homicides, are common. Sexual assaults occur frequently, including at all-inclusive resorts."
I’m a Canadian who travels to JA often and I lived with my husband’s Jamaican family in a town where I am literally the ONLY white person and am the ONLY white woman. Other than a lot of stares from the locals, no one has bothered me. That said, if a black man showed up in the white small town I grew up in SK, Canada, the locals would stare at him! I own a home in Jamaica now. I used to live in Mexico - the same precautions I took there that kept me safe for 5 years also keep me safe in JA. Common sense but it’s not for everyone. There are plenty of things for visitors to see and do in JA but they don’t need to be everywhere. There are few things a tourist even needs to obtain outside of an AI resort so they don’t need to be all over the place. With this, I agree. There are many tours and things to see once they leave the resort but they don’t need to be wandering around clubs and such either. Tourists need to stay in the hotel zone and they won’t have an issue. No different in Mexico. Not everyone wants a shipload or airplane load of foreigners bombarding their town and videoing everything then spreading lies in the internet.
This man is miserable 😂 Please don’t listen to him.. while he’s correct saying that beyond the port (food and shopping) there’s not much to do in the town. It’s a living town, we shop, conduct business and do our thing.. there’s no attractions in town. It a cool place to walk around and see the historic buildings, buy some fresh fruit, porridge or just enjoy the hustle and bustle of the people. I literally laughed out loud at his “I can’t leave the port because I’ll be robbed comment.” You can get robbed anywhere.. not just Jamaica. 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ I guess he doesn’t realize the number of people we have that do visit the town and have a great time.
it was cool. we just spent the day on the beach doing nothing. theyve done a good job designing the area and theres a surprising amount of activities to do, depending on your price point. they have like 3-4 different areas for different intentions. we went to nellies beach and it was very relaxing and chill. they serve like burgers and jerk chicken and it was a good day. there is an entire craft area that is just like falmouth and the vendors are aggressive as well. but you can avoid it by going around it. overall, i think theyve done a good job with labadee. lots to explore and its very scenic, you feel like youre in a very tropical place.
@@fluffytail6355 You cannot leave or explore beyond Royal's sealed off area within the Labadee peninsula. Ships haven't been going there since the complete government collapse and still won't be returning for months (or years).
Can’t disagree with what you say. We had to leave the port area to buy some diapers, there were cops advising us not to go too far as it wasn’t safe, when we found a shop they immediately bumped up the price so we left and decided to buy some at the next port. The place is a shit hole, either do an excursion or stay on the ship.

The only thing you should pass on is this bozo’s narrow minded opinion. I’m a white woman living in Jamaica now and have NO issues going alone to Falmouth to conduct my banking and shopping. He’s a gigantic Murican chicken.
You absolutely can! There are many shuttles that can carry you to local beaches. Doctor’s Beach (Montego Bay) near it all or Burwood Beach (Falmouth) are great choices.
You do have some valid points. And yes I agreed with you. Cruise ship should only go in the town of Ocho Rios where there are many excursion to do in that location
Nope. RCL bought the pier in Falmouth and totally screwed over the Jamaicans in the deal. Falmouth is a peaceful place of about 7500 permanent residents and is a hub for many activities nearby.
@@Pochi1why does ANYONE live in the USA is my big question! Same crimes occur in the USA as in Jamaica. Wake up.
The town of Port Royal is very safe and a beautiful fishing village. Visit the actual town. What a miserable person afraid of Jamaicans

This man is miserable 😂
Please don’t listen to him.. while he’s correct saying that beyond the port (food and shopping) there’s not much to do in the town.
🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ I guess he doesn’t realize the number of people we have that do visit the town and have a great time.
far from miserable but you lost me at porridge….😂
What was your experience in Labadee?
it was cool. we just spent the day on the beach doing nothing. theyve done a good job designing the area and theres a surprising amount of activities to do, depending on your price point. they have like 3-4 different areas for different intentions. we went to nellies beach and it was very relaxing and chill. they serve like burgers and jerk chicken and it was a good day. there is an entire craft area that is just like falmouth and the vendors are aggressive as well. but you can avoid it by going around it. overall, i think theyve done a good job with labadee. lots to explore and its very scenic, you feel like youre in a very tropical place.
He is scared of Jamaica but is willing to travel to Haiti, which is notoriously worse, without any hesitation
@@fluffytail6355
You cannot leave or explore beyond Royal's sealed off area within the Labadee peninsula. Ships haven't been going there since the complete government collapse and still won't be returning for months (or years).
It’s a real shame. 50+ years ago there was none of the pestering anywhere. Everyone was so friendly.
yes, it is
Everyone IS still friendly. Unless you’re an idiot. Idiots get picked on.
Can’t disagree with what you say. We had to leave the port area to buy some diapers, there were cops advising us not to go too far as it wasn’t safe, when we found a shop they immediately bumped up the price so we left and decided to buy some at the next port. The place is a shit hole, either do an excursion or stay on the ship.
thats what im screaming 😂. hope you found some diapers eventually though. thanks for the comment
@@dietsausage1 We did, a CVS in San Juan. We just made sure we didn’t feed Jnr any fibre for 24 hours!
😂😂 well played
I bet the cops said be careful, not that it wasn’t safe. No one jacked the price of the diapers.. they’re expensive here.
Ty for your honest review!
you are most welcome 😁
It’s NOT honest. It’s one chicken’s opinion. Take it as such.
Pass! Rather stay on the ship and enjoy all of the nice things that I’ve paid to enjoy
That’s an option at ANY port!
Authentic Jamaican restaurants???
if you venture outside the port and its not exactly safe to do so
@@dietsausage1
What about if I do an excursion. I want to SEE Jamaica
@@BlackPanther-yv7ib the excursions are kind of milquetoast from what i gathered from those who went on them. of all the excursions ive been on, most of them are overpriced and not that value worthy. id just as soon do my own thing and, unfortunately, theres just not a lot to do in falmouth.
You’re asking if there are AUTHENTIC Jamaican restaurants in Jamaica?? 😂😂😂
@@fluffytail6355 Mind ya business. 🤣
Thank you for your honest review I'm searching for a cruise in Dec lol I think I'll pass on this port
you are most welcome
The only thing you should pass on is this bozo’s narrow minded opinion. I’m a white woman living in Jamaica now and have NO issues going alone to Falmouth to conduct my banking and shopping. He’s a gigantic Murican chicken.
So you can’t go to the BEACH?????? 🏝️
if you pay to go to a resort
You absolutely can! There are many shuttles that can carry you to local beaches. Doctor’s Beach (Montego Bay) near it all or Burwood Beach (Falmouth) are great choices.
@@dietsausage1you NEED to stop posting when you don’t even know what you’re talking about 🙄🤦♀️
You do have some valid points. And yes I agreed with you. I believe that they should stop having cruise ship docking in Falmouth, because the tourist are being disappointed.for sure, a d nothing to do in that location for that short period of time.
Cruise ship should only go in the town of Ocho Rios where there are many excursion to do in that location
couldnt agree more, thanks
We had a very similar in Labadee. At least there they openly admit what it is. We will be in Falmouth January 24.
Nope. RCL bought the pier in Falmouth and totally screwed over the Jamaicans in the deal. Falmouth is a peaceful place of about 7500 permanent residents and is a hub for many activities nearby. No need to eliminate one port of call just because you don’t like it or are boring and don’t find it “appealing.”
A friend of mine said the only thing to do in this port is to stay on the ship.😅
thats about as accurate as i can say it 🤣
Your friend is wrong. Is your “friend” also paying for your cruise and makes all of your other life decisions too?

This Port is basically a compound with no access to the Island. I suppose its closed in for safety, no?
best i can tell, yes it is
You could say that about ANY port!! What port have you been to that just ANYONE can get near the ship without a ship card. You must be new to cruising.
