Best hand-tool hinge mortise video on TH-cam. I've come back and referenced it, before cutting out a high-stakes hinge mortise on a project. Thank you for your high-quality output!

Beautiful work. Your error was on the "good" side, where you still had some wood remaining to correct it. It would have been worse (although fixable with a shim) if you measured on the fat part of the hinge leaf.
I like your method of going to the depth around the mortise before removing the material inside. Sometimes I blow out the backside while paring it out.

Great demonstration! Well done. Can’t wait for more. What brand is your chisel? Thanks

Thanks. I really trashed a garden gate hinge mortice. Know how to do it properly now. Cheers

Great video! I was getting a bit nervous near the end. Any reason why you prefer using a chisel versus a router plane for the final fitting? A router plane would pretty much guarantee that you have a constant depth. You must have done quite a few of these as your confidence in using a chisel at the final cut was obvious! VERY NICE WORK!

As I explained in the video, normally I would use a router plane, but I realized part way through the demonstration that the thickness of the hinge leaves are actually tapered (thicker near the barrel), so the mortise had to be deeper near the edge than at the back. I hope that makes sense.

Good video really informative and I look forward to seeing what you have in the future.
One tiny bit of constructive feedback is your speech is a little quiet, but otherwise good video.
