I ran across Your Channel in my feed at just the right time. Your Patience and skill are just what I needed. I will Practise before I try it for real. Thanks Geoff.
I like this pairing block technique, good for precision. I've cut more hinges by hand than I care to remember, but never thought to support the chisel like that.
Yes this is important otherwise your hinge will bind and virtually destroy itself. If you notice the "knuckle" of the butt hinge should run parallel with the edge of your door. Good luck 👍

You’re an artist, my friend! Thanks for this, as I embark on my first-ever attempt with a chisel, renovating our 1928 home in Minnesota, USA.
Good on you, that sounds awesome I wish you all the best, thanks for watching and good luck 👍
I never knew about the pairing block. Thank you for sharing!!
Trade secret revealed…👍

Good job 👍👍👍
Great instructional video. Thank you. One question. Is the hinge placed at exactly 90 degrees the the edge of the door on every hinge type?

I love chiseling with wood though not alit of people can do it
For mortice depth, lay hinge flat - place chisel against hinge and wrap some masking tape around chisel, this takes away depth guesswork.
