You have to progress the story portion of Valhalla a certain amount forward. Once the Greece portion is opened up there will eventually be two challenge that are behind doors, one on each side in the “rear” of the Greece map. One is on a cliff side and is easier to do because of the time constraints each have. The cliff just is a long timer, way more than you need. The other on the boat from the original God of War game, has a timer that goes up as you kill enemies, so you need to be very quick on each one. Once you defeat one of these two challenge doors it will unlock this upper area where this particular arena is located. It will first spawn a different berserker and you have to kill that one before in another run you get here again THEN it will be the King.

Just some advice, it is a waste of time to charge the flame whiplash if you are going to end up using runic attacks.
One of the perks I picked up increased the damage of runic attacks after a fully charged whiplash, as well as cooldown each time so do it.
