2018 GOW to evade was used pressing X so I’ll stick with that as I’m used to doing that and interact with O. It was the same as 2018 so it’ll be odd for me to switch that up
Honestly the old classic god of war feel had it on o not x anyways, like when u had to have sex with Aphrodite 🥵😂 I'll forever remember the circle just from that 😂😂
Yeah also I changed the sheath button to the alternate one so I can press the weapon button to do it like the last game that I was already used to instead of pressing only pressing down dpad
I've never used X for my interact button. X has usually been my action or movement button. It's also closer to my stick so if I am moving my camera and need to hit a quick evade it's slightly less time to do it. Old God of War X was the jump button so it feels natural that it's now our evade button.
Totally agree with you, at first I thought it'd be better to change it but then I realised that you use more the evade button than the interaction button (at least referring to the amount of times you press it) so I left it there.
Survival gear, when maxed is an awesome set. Doesnt have perks like the other gear but I find the perks were too small or did so little it was not noticed...currently have 7 sets completely maxed. Tried multiple times with each set against berserkers, i like the survival set best. 310 str, 400 def, 160 vit, 250 luck, 270 rnc, 270 cld are my stats...I compared this set to sols courage, dragon, giptumaors, fate breaker, guiding light, raven tears, steinbjorn and recently fallen stars. I got best stats and results wearing survival set. For the amulet. I use asgard set , jotunheim set and three singles. This is just my experience.
@@ReaktiveTM Radiance set i tried but "to me"... the loss of 60 to rnc, cld, luck and vit was too much. There is a small loss to str and def also. If the realm shift was a bit longer so i could apply more damage, maybe. For me the total loss of stats is not worth 2 free hits with that much lower damage.
Luck also affects chance based ability activation so it's not just for early game, but going heavily into luck would require a specific build vs focusing on Strength or Defense.
At 9:04 Using sonic arrows to drop the critters off the woodwork. Nice tactic. Didn't think about that. Just blew them up indiscriminately irrespective of whether a critter was about!
0:38 Because in the earlier series then 2018 gow O was interact X was jump and R stick was dodge/evade. Now you do it all with X dodge and O for vault/interact
As someone who’s 100% the game on GMGOW setting here’s a tip. Get good with parrying. My build runs off stun/ poison build up mainly running just fists and if you’re consistent with your parries you just melt through bosses and enemies because of the stun build up.
So my tips would be go to settings and change the colour to collectables to red (you won't miss anything) Next luck is super important to critical hits or basically any bonus effect. The higher the luck the more common you'll see bonus effects
I just finished Ghost yesterday, before picking up Ragnarok. It was truly one of my favorite games in the past few years, I really enjoyed it. Such a great game!
My key learning: understand power levels and health bar colors. The single most important factor that defines how much damage you do (and take) is your power level. It's not your skills, your stats or any other character tweaks. The game doesn't tell you that it grants huge attack & defence buffs if you are at a higher level than your enemy (green health bar). Likewise, it'll give you a huge debuff if you're fighting a higher-ranked enemy (orange, purple or red health bars). Yellow means the same gear level, these enemies are usually quite easy as well. So much so that it actually doesn't really matter what kind of build you have, what matters most is that your equipped gear is leveled up. It's a bit of a workaround by the Game to manage difficulty progression, but also cheapens the whole character progression imho.
5:20 the dew will increase one of your stats by 2 not just cooldown. That means strength, defense, vit, runic, cooldown There are 5 dew trees in total and each increases only one of those
GOW never disappoints. Every one better than the last. This one gave us more Character development wich I liked. We got actual emotions from Cratos instead of grunts and 1 word sentences
I would actually say, only do main objectives because it is impossible to 100%an área before the end of the mais story, you will end up like a headless chicken looking for undiscoverable staff, a lot of time wasted. Explore after campain because you gonna need to do that anyway, even if you do every thing u can from side quests, You don't lose anything. Cheers.
Yeah same, it took me forever to beat Thor in the like intro part of the game! :D Few mobs have also given me a little bit of trouble, its been tough so far for sure and im only a few hours in, but think I am going to keep at it :)
A cool tip as well poison actually temporarily lowers the combat level of the enemy so if you have a skill that applies poison that would a handy thing to use
from what i hear, luck increases the chance of anything chance based. for example, if the equipment says "chance on axe hit to cause health regen" then luck will boost that chance. how much? i dunno. i would hope a % of the chance. so slight chance i think is 10% chance, so with a 100 luck i think it goes to 20%? i think. not sure how much it increases, but seems reasonable to me. personally i will go high luck anyway for EXP. and even if i get all the skills early, chances are we can sell EXP for hacksilver again, which will be useful.
I wish they'd be specific about what those "chance" perks actually give because using words like low, moderate and high don't tell me much at all. I'm a decent number of hours into the game and my luck is still at 16. I just haven't come across much to increase that yet. All of my luck comes from an enchantment I just got that gives 10 luck and the darkdale handles I got with the digital deluxe version of the game which right now gives me 6 luck. Hoping my luck changes soon! lol

Even after playing 270 hours of the first GOW, I still felt like a noob when I first started playing Ragnarok. SM completely updated all of the equipment mechanics, and I'm loving it.

The Dew you get that hangs off trees actually gives you 2 bonus points to a different state each time!! My first dew was also 2 for Cooldown as well so the order of this probably stays the same!! I know you get 2 defense and 2 vitality as well and just 2 of something different every time!
This is my first play with God of war, and I'm loving it!! Frustrating and fantastic at times, so glad I figured most of these things out just exploring and pumping in hours of gameplay, but great video, and awesome game. Thanks!
I dont mind the O vs. X thing because i am accustomed to it, Ive plated with the default well, and did good in GMGOW, but i did try it on a rerun, with also trading, R1 with □ and R2 with Δ, and then traded R1 with R2. And it made it weirdly easy to remember. A friend recommended that.
It's going to be the same playthrough for me start easy then normal then hard. Just like the previous game those valkeries are so insane no matter the difficulty. Took me more than 20 tries to defeat the queen in hard mode
Starting on easy? If u were good enough to beat Valk Queen on hard then u can start on at least normal I think. The difficulty scaling is more forgiving in this game as well.

You gave some great advice, and I would like to point out what means the most to me. Concerning your suggestion to choose in the stats that keep Kratos running all the time. When I started, I didn't like this, so I changed to walk and L3 run, I found it more satisfying for exploration and enjoyment. My gratitude is that I realized your advice would be incredibly advantages if one eliminates the L3 in Boss fights and especially berserker fights. Thanks so much K...
I don't know how serious you guys get in maximizing your combos... But You do *NOT want to auto sprint, as dash gets triggered to a roll, and unless you delay the time before triggering, your better off just remapping. There are running moves that you will not want to perform, and forward moves you will mess up... For the Casuals maybe... It might still frustrate you, not getting proper inputs out... I have a feeling most of these "Must do before playing Ragnarok" vids no offense, were copied and pasting from 2018's experience and/or rushed... This is a Toootallly different combat experience, and actually falls into perfectly divisible frame data (i.e. your options to dash/ dash roll/ and enemies extending combos based on difficulty, as well as what is now allowed to cancel into block and evade and none the less the invul frame overhaul) if your spacing out and not maxing out your offense, cool.. But if you are... ehhhh.... I might make a video soon explaining the differences. Not something I'm too good (editing nice and clean) but I'm on that combat knowledge train....nobody has mentioned it yet... Pro's like GBG, SmvR and the like playing in a way I know they're caught up w/ the differences... Just have an open mind, die to an enemy to see how crisp doing 1 of 3 *correct choices at any given time attacking, but not stealing too much offense, is incredibly tuned, and rewarded.
That was the first settings change I made with many more after that. And he showed in the video changing it in the remap controls settings but it's right at the top of gameplay settings and all you have to do is highlight it and press X and confirm the change. Everyone should get in the habit of checking out all of the settings before or immediately after starting a brand new game because these days the settings menus are huge, especially on Sony first party games. You're pretty much guaranteed to find things you can change that will make gameplay more comfortable or more enjoyable for you. And there can be things in the accessibility settings that a lot of people may want to use like the auto pick up loot. Every time I get anything new, a phone, a game or an app, the first thing I do is go to the settings to make things the way I want them. Back when the settings menus in games were tiny it didn't matter much but that was a long time ago. Always check the settings 1st. Enjoy God of War: Ragnarok!
I knew the first ones (the ones from the buttos no), but the last ones, those were really important, I'm having trouble with the powers and stats. Thanks!!
As someone who just 100%/Platinum GMGOW, I strongly disagree with elemental focus. Stun and momentum are both far superior. W/out the skill mods, your elemental build up is too low to make much use of it, and the difficult bosses rarely give you enough of a damage window to both apply the effect and make use of it... and by the next time you can do any real amount of damage the effect has worn off. Also, stun damage is a MUST for harder enemies, at least on the higher difficulties. Momentum is also very powerful and can be devastating in the late game with the right build.
All were helpful besides number 1 I usually don’t mind the dodge button being x because I’ve played some games that have it as the default I believe that’s more of a preference thing than a setback.
I highly recommend not putting aurorun on. You don't always want to dash attack, sometimes just walking up and doing damage to an enemy that has quick attacks is better.
After playing through Elden Ring I will never get lost in another game. Remapping X/O were the first thing I did as a Souls vet 😂 Hel Tears give you the Frozen flame spark. Also, hanging Dew doesn't just affect cooldown. It affects all stats and it's kinda worthless.
I’d add that after finishing Svartlheim you should go to Nifleheim before Alfheim. There you can both practice your moves/combos as well as leveling the tiers of all available skills to allow mod slots which you should have the xp to put on your favorite 2-3 combos.
I'm probably around 13 hours into the game doing all side quests and stuff. I'm wondering when I get to go to muspelheim? I feel like I didn't do something or missed something 😕?
One that I totally missed in my first playthrough was with the spear using and holding r2 will thrust the spear into an enemy infusing it with a status effect based on what you using it on grim will apply poison to it elf’s apply light the asgardian enemies apply bifrost to it and so dragaur fire helwakers ice
Your first tip is a great one wish I’d have seen that sooner when starting god of war a few months ago in prep for Ragnarok … but I do think that the way you command atreus’s arrows with square lends its hand to dodging with X because it is proximal to square and thus quicker to command arrows while evading and evade when rapid firing arrows … 🤔
For those who don’t know yet maybe you haven’t played in a while but it also has a new game plus now in that every nonir chest has a upgrade dew in it so you get a permanent stat upgrade for each on you open
luckily i got so used to default with the action button my muscle memory is set specifically just for this game… i’m good like that tho , play enough fighters nothing becomes problematic with just few buttons Also if people played the 2018 game then these all should be known already… or maybe i just play games so much i’ve learned how to understand these mechanics :b good video nontheless !
I just want to know best method overall, I am going to play the game twice once for story experience than second for trophy and max build. Curious if it’s best to just play through story get what I can and finish story. Than unlock most things and than do a new game plus?
The best method is whatever the best method is for you. My method is totally different than what you said you want to do so if I give you my method it won't do you any good. I love exploring, collecting and doing everything I can as I slowly work my way through games like this. I feel like this helps build suspense because I'm not just speeding through the story to find out what happens. And the more time you spend with your companions the more you learn about them and the lore and it's really interesting to me. I never saw the point in racing through the story and then doing side missions, getting new armors and having the materials you need to upgrade gear only after the story is done. If you're going to play new game plus then you'll probably want to have all the upgrades on your favorite gear but new game plus isn't coming for a while. I'll probably play through this game a 2nd time before new game plus arrives. Also, you need very specific materials for all the upgrades and so far there have been a lot of things I only found enough of because I was off exploring so I feel like you won't be able to do many upgrades only playing through the story other than the axe and blades. And trying to hunt down the materials for upgrades after the story would be a major pain in my opinion. But play it how you want to play it. That's what's great about games like this. It's all up to you! Enjoy the game!
The best aspect of this game is the amount of content. The worst aspect of this game is the amount of content. With no instant fast travel it’s a chore to to clean up side quests because of having to retrace through the linear paths in the world. The best realm for side quests is alfheim and midguard since they’re more open. Vanaheim is pretty sweet when you open the new area but the rest of the realm is insnalely linear with fast travel points being incredibly sparse.
In game I'm basically an Pathfinder. The problem is, some place you need some skill or upgrade to pass, sometimes I have to leave the place and come later because of that.
Nice man just preordered last night I can’t wait to dive in love the god of war series , god if war 2018 was so good can’t wait to see how they expand on thst
Started doing sidquests. In most areas, there's something you can't access until you get the specific tool.. that specific tool is tied to the main story, so now I find myself advancing the story only to get that tool, which for me takes away from the story.. and I frickin hated the muspelheim trials.. found out there's more 😭

Meanwhile Atreus and Mimir both kept saying "we don't have the tool for this" and "we should come back later". lol When they tell you that you don't have the tool, it's because you really don't have it. Trust them!
Should mention to sell Shattered Runes too, despite being under resources, as they sell for a lot (50=5k hacksilver)... you get them everywhere and are useless otherwise.
Yeah, I really don't get why these things even exist. I googled to be sure that they are indeed useless otherwise. Seriously, how do they provide even the slightest improvement to the gameplay?
@@Tilmann5138 The answer to your question was in the original thing you were replying too. "as they sell for a lot (50=5k hacksilver)". They are source of income. Almost every game like this that useless resource which is really just easy income.
@@zarathos4666 I'm not sure if you understood my comment. I'm not asking what I can use them for, I'm asking why the devs implemented it like that. How do Shattered Runes improve my gameplay experience? They don't. It's just annoying that I have to go to the sell section at Brok and Sindri's to thurn them into Hacksilver.

2018 GOW to evade was used pressing X so I’ll stick with that as I’m used to doing that and interact with O. It was the same as 2018 so it’ll be odd for me to switch that up
True I’d you’re used to it there’s no point switching. That being said, it takes just a couple of hours to get used to it
Honestly the old classic god of war feel had it on o not x anyways, like when u had to have sex with Aphrodite 🥵😂 I'll forever remember the circle just from that 😂😂
Yeah also I changed the sheath button to the alternate one so I can press the weapon button to do it like the last game that I was already used to instead of pressing only pressing down dpad
@@mycelium1456 Same.
I think after playing Elden Ring and using O to evade is easier for me. Lol
Appreciate the settings tips.
One note. The “dew” is a different stat with each drop. It’s not always cooldown.
I was about to comment this also, glad I saw yours first haha. But yeah, each dew will give a small boost to all different basic stats.
I'm playing survival chest with the slowmo arms/legs and will never take off the arms/legs again. Slow motion ist way too good
@@ReaktiveTM Radiance set i tried but "to me"... the loss of 60 to rnc, cld, luck and vit was too much. There is a small loss to str and def also. If the realm shift was a bit longer so i could apply more damage, maybe. For me the total loss of stats is not worth 2 free hits with that much lower damage.
I need to get the armour set that makes you a tank against berserkers. I competed the story in 3 days so haveant a rest now😅
Yep I agree, I did the same thing. Plus maxed out u can change the appearance of the armor to previous ones u unlocked.
@@ukamericanmusic6321 Seems about 3 days or 30ish hours , is the standard finish time. I actually almost platinum the game in 36 hours.
Thanks for you videos so far. Ive been using them as I progress.
Do you know what the pillars loki shoots are for? They don't fall and Idk if it just meant to stop the frog men
Well, I didn't learned a single thing I didn't knew but still watched it fully, great video for beginners!
As someone who’s 100% the game on GMGOW setting here’s a tip. Get good with parrying. My build runs off stun/ poison build up mainly running just fists and if you’re consistent with your parries you just melt through bosses and enemies because of the stun build up.
Some of the combat encounters remind of Doom eternal, where you constantly traverse the area and also switch weapons.
So my tips would be go to settings and change the colour to collectables to red (you won't miss anything)
Next luck is super important to critical hits or basically any bonus effect. The higher the luck the more common you'll see bonus effects
I don't see color for collectable in settings
@@bushisback112 Accessibility settings, highcontrast display, change target colour and interact colour to red (stands out the most
I haven't been this pumped for a game since Ghost of Tsushima
Gear level matter less once you've maxed it out but I hate that it's a problem for most of the game
5:20 the dew will increase one of your stats by 2 not just cooldown.
That means strength, defense, vit, runic, cooldown
There are 5 dew trees in total and each increases only one of those
So I bought the digital edition with the extra stuff and armor should I focus on upgrading one armors every time or all the armor?
GOW never disappoints. Every one better than the last. This one gave us more Character development wich I liked. We got actual emotions from Cratos instead of grunts and 1 word sentences
I love it except for Freya's Incessant complaining early on. HAHHA
I would actually say, only do main objectives because it is impossible to 100%an área before the end of the mais story, you will end up like a headless chicken looking for undiscoverable staff, a lot of time wasted.
Explore after campain because you gonna need to do that anyway, even if you do every thing u can from side quests,
You don't lose anything. Cheers.
I'm playing on No Mercy mode and boy howdy it's a challenge. Very fun about half way through the game so far
Tell me about it. First time I found a drauger mini it took me forever to beat it 😩
Yeah same, it took me forever to beat Thor in the like intro part of the game! :D Few mobs have also given me a little bit of trouble, its been tough so far for sure and im only a few hours in, but think I am going to keep at it :)
A cool tip as well poison actually temporarily lowers the combat level of the enemy so if you have a skill that applies poison that would a handy thing to use
Hey, does luck also increase the chance of specific boosts? Last game, Luck boosted chances of enchantment/armor perks.
from what i hear, luck increases the chance of anything chance based. for example, if the equipment says "chance on axe hit to cause health regen" then luck will boost that chance. how much? i dunno. i would hope a % of the chance. so slight chance i think is 10% chance, so with a 100 luck i think it goes to 20%? i think. not sure how much it increases, but seems reasonable to me.
personally i will go high luck anyway for EXP. and even if i get all the skills early, chances are we can sell EXP for hacksilver again, which will be useful.
@@godsplayingfield thanks that was what i was asking
I wish they'd be specific about what those "chance" perks actually give because using words like low, moderate and high don't tell me much at all. I'm a decent number of hours into the game and my luck is still at 16. I just haven't come across much to increase that yet. All of my luck comes from an enchantment I just got that gives 10 luck and the darkdale handles I got with the digital deluxe version of the game which right now gives me 6 luck. Hoping my luck changes soon! lol
@@died4u525 def gotta level up your gear early to see the results. Ive only freed tyr and almost lvl 3 due to fighting everything and doing side missions. If you explore, you get a ton of matts to upgrade
They actually specify exactly which trait can cause certain boosts.
Even after playing 270 hours of the first GOW, I still felt like a noob when I first started playing Ragnarok. SM completely updated all of the equipment mechanics, and I'm loving it.
i platinumed it and yeah these tips are good, but one more tip: if you see an Odin's eye (aka. green raven) always throw your axe at it because if you collect enough you'll be rewarded with some good stuff.
Thanks!
The Yggdrasil dew isn’t just for cooldown….each one is for a different stat

Can you change skill buttons too like instead of holding square button you smach the button like the this skill of the blades chaotic rampage ?
Wait. The ice/fire symbol next to an enemy’s health bar is the one you should attack with or the opposite ???
Opposite. So if an enemy is frosted you need to use the blades and vise versa if they are fire enemies.

The good is new, being 5 hours in I knew some of these already, but not all so thank you!
my ps4 doesnt have your setting menu (must be pc?), mine is very limited so i cant use all the setting changes...
That circle and and X swap was so smart. I keep pressing O to evade
It really was throwing me off
That was the first settings change I made with many more after that.
Thanks!!
Where do I find the 2nd runic slot or weapon ability slot ??
Disagree on the last part
I’d add that after finishing Svartlheim you should go to Nifleheim before Alfheim. There you can both practice your moves/combos as well as leveling the tiers of all available skills to allow mod slots which you should have the xp to put on your favorite 2-3 combos.
You always give great tips and builds.
I appreciate that! 😊
I'm probably around 13 hours into the game doing all side quests and stuff. I'm wondering when I get to go to muspelheim? I feel like I didn't do something or missed something 😕?
Is levelling up still tied to armour stats?
Cool tips but I am B lining main quest tomorrow as I always do on first playthroughs :)
Though I’ve already played the game, he avoided spoilers like a legend
One that I totally missed in my first playthrough was with the spear using and holding r2 will thrust the spear into an enemy infusing it with a status effect based on what you using it on grim will apply poison to it elf’s apply light the asgardian enemies apply bifrost to it and so dragaur fire helwakers ice
I have 100% on every Realm and this game is so good. Got me Emotional!! Worth Exploring every inch of the map!!
jesus man how 😭 i’ve been playing since launch and just finish the story last night but still have a good amount of side stuff
God of war ragnaroks camera angle seems off, turning to the enemy behind you is difficult. Don’t remember this problem in the previous game
Great content...👍
Cam you unlock all the armour without buying the deluxe edition?
Your first tip is a great one wish I’d have seen that sooner when starting god of war a few months ago in prep for Ragnarok … but I do think that the way you command atreus’s arrows with square lends its hand to dodging with X because it is proximal to square and thus quicker to command arrows while evading and evade when rapid firing arrows … 🤔
Yeah the ydrasil drops are a pemanent stat increase by 2 stat pounts but they dont just increase your cooldown its a random stat each time
For those who don’t know yet maybe you haven’t played in a while but it also has a new game plus now in that every nonir chest has a upgrade dew in it so you get a permanent stat upgrade for each on you open
Hitting enemies in the back fills the stun meter way faster. I wish I knew this way sooner.
luckily i got so used to default with the action button my muscle memory is set specifically just for this game… i’m good like that tho , play enough fighters nothing becomes problematic with just few buttons
Also if people played the 2018 game then these all should be known already… or maybe i just play games so much i’ve learned how to understand these mechanics :b
good video nontheless !
The yddrassil dew doesn't just increase cooldown, it can increase all stats
People need to learn to just take their time with games again. Don’t rush, and just do what you want. It’s more satisfying that way.
No question
I put my light and heavy attacks as square and triangle as well. I think it's dumb af that the preset buttons are r1 and r2 for his attacks
Thank you for the video. Swapping X and O didn’t quite work for me. X makes more sense, but maybe that’s just my personal preference.
Hey man, I found out that kratos gets a spear in the game as a weapon. How long does it take to get to that point ! Is it end game stuff ?
Thanks great job
The best aspect of this game is the amount of content. The worst aspect of this game is the amount of content. With no instant fast travel it’s a chore to to clean up side quests because of having to retrace through the linear paths in the world. The best realm for side quests is alfheim and midguard since they’re more open. Vanaheim is pretty sweet when you open the new area but the rest of the realm is insnalely linear with fast travel points being incredibly sparse.
In game I'm basically an Pathfinder. The problem is, some place you need some skill or upgrade to pass, sometimes I have to leave the place and come later because of that.
I love your info. It’s some of the best. I wish my face was your gaming chair.

Started doing sidquests. In most areas, there's something you can't access until you get the specific tool.. that specific tool is tied to the main story, so now I find myself advancing the story only to get that tool, which for me takes away from the story.. and I frickin hated the muspelheim trials.. found out there's more 😭
i just did the trials, and found the first set of 6 pretty fun, havnt done the 2nd set of 6 yet tho
Definitely do the side quest. That's where I got almost all the runic attacks.

Luck isn't only for hacksilver and xp. You can use it to trigger effects that say luck chance to do etc.
