- Merry Christmas everyone. With the wood cabinet and power option this listed close to $700 in the day! HK was one of the first audio companies to recognize the unpredictable dynamic nature of music and designed their receivers w oversized power supplies ie duel supplies to respond to the dynamics! 👍
(Correction to my specs. The capture ratio of the fm tuner is about 1 db. The selectivity about 65 db. )👍
I say it has an effective frequency response of 4 to about 140 thousand hertz, because even at these extreams it’s still close to flat!👍
Half a century old and it can compete and beat most amplifiers today.👍
Upgrades include new output transistors (4) MJ21194G together w a complete recap w Panasonics for the dual power supplies, and Elna silmac II’s for all audio circuits. Along w NTE 199 transistor replacements for the phono pre amp. 👍
Order 4 electrolytic Panasonic 80v 6800 uF caps for the power supply. 12 each Elna Silmac II 20v electrolytic capacitors at 1, 3.3,.1,.47, and 100 uF for receiver preamp and phono preamp. Also 4 NTE 199 transistors for the phono preamp board.👍
Optional 6.3v led warm white fuse lamps (7) may be used for the dial area.
For those who have extreme courage!!! Try replacing all 8 transistors in the receiver preamp with NTE 199 transistors!!!! The receiver so modified will rip the paint off your walls!!! 👹👹👹👹

I got mine in college, 1973, with a pair of Large Advents and a Thorens TD-160 with a Shure V-15 Type III. I think the receiver (metal cabinet) was $495, total system was just over $900.
THE 930 IS A SMALL POWERHOUSE, SOUNDS FANTASTIC. 👍
Has roughly the same size power supply as the mighty Marantz 2325!! It’s really a monster receiver.
In 1973, my father paid $540 Canadian + tax, without the wooden cabinet. Bought at Layton Audio in Montréal. Paired it with a set of KEF Concerto speakers and a Thorens TD-160 turntable. Was very enjoyable!

I just bought one of these in October for $250 Canadian and its in t he shop getting a check up !!!! I also own a Harmon Kardon 670 which I just bought two weeks ago go it for $325 and I have a Marantz SR4000. I love them all. Getting excited to get the HK930 and give it a test drive.

I had two rooms full of vintage gear including quite a few HK's mostly from deceased estate sales however all have been sold now. My forever system has arrived and 2022 technology certainly blows the doors off of any vintage gear. Cheers.

2 sets of 8 ohm or 1 set of 4 ohm. Not sure w 6 ohm.

i have a sony 555 es av reciever 125 watts by 5 27 surround field plus reverberation settings,its a freaking nice solid av reciever..early 2000`s model
Completely wrong about the cabinet. The first iteration cabinet looks and is 100 times more beautiful than this "service friendly " veneer. The thickness of the solid wood and the attention to shadow lines and reveals put the first version so far ahead of the one in the video that I questioned myself " What is up with this wonky cabinet?". Not pretty or high -end looking. I kinda know about custom wood cabinetry and had my H-K 930 with the first wood surround from 1973 to 2004. The pitiful Florida power grid roasted my unprotected gem and I now rue the day it no longer could make glorious music!
