I'm learning so much about the tasting process by listening to your process of analyzing the pour! - how and where does it hit the palate (front, mid, back, roof, under tough, throat, lips, etc) - dominant flavors - secondary flavors - hints of flavors - mouthfeel - finish flavors - finish length - complexity So cool watching your process of evaluating. Thank you for sharing the process.
Thanks so much for this review. I got a bottle of GTS 2023 through our state liquor lottery at MSRP ($125). I'm waiting for the right time to open it, but your review is definitely tempting me to finally do it!
Fun to watch, my daughter and I got to try the 2019 GTS and it was so great. Haven't ever been able to purchase a BTAC but at least I tried one. Thank you as always for great reviews.
Had my first and only sip of Stagg couple months ago with my 2 brothers. One brother found one in Atlanta GA and brought it for a bourbon tasting we planned. Out of 10 or more different bourbons on the counter we sipped, Stagg stood out as the clear best. Only made me want one for myself more. This is some excellent sauce!
Go Pokes!!! Fred, come to an OSU Wind Ensemble concert in the future and we'll go for drinks after! I'm fortunate to be one of the music graduate assistants.
I see you, Mr. Minnick, with your OSU hat - you guys have been looking good the last three games! I know you have Cincy coming up, but I'm already looking forward to Bedlam! Oh yeah - great review and video BTW!
It may be good, but is it worth not getting 4 staggs, blantons golds or stfb store picks? I feel like GTS goes for $1000 on secondary but I can get 4 $250 bangers instead. I suppose if you have the money it wont matter, get them all, or if you somehow find one at MSRP which seems like winning the lottery.
Might have to find a pour at a bar for this one. Luckily some places near me fairly price pours even for "bar" prices. Just a matter of if they can get this lol.
just scan through past comments; you'll see plenty of complaints of me not getting to the review quick enough. i tell them i'm probably not the best channel to watch .LOL
I’m 31 and here’s my theory: the younger generation of whiskey drinkers browse TikTok and TH-cam shorts regularly. Based on my own experience and observing friends I’d estimate anyone under 30 years old most likely browses them regularly! I think regular consumption of that type of media reduces attention span towards media content. That being said creating shorts could be a good method to capture that audience’s attention. After they watch a few shorts they like they will mentally approve themselves to invest more time into your content. At that point they’ll also appreciate these full length videos
Nice review! Just scored 3 bottles today! Now my sons and I have a nice bottle on the bar top tonight! Cheers! Also grabbed a T H Handy and others from a great haul!
GTS is the only allocated bourbon that completely blew me away. I certainly wouldn't pay the crazy secondary prices but I would probably go 100% over msrp and have no regrets at all.
Don't know what Derby pie tastes like but it sounds good. However, I do know what cardamon tastes like and it's not a note I care for in my bourbon. Moot point since I'll never see a bottle of this.
I understand that the GTS 2023 is good, maybe great. What i dont get is: how is vodka useful for cleaning up dead cat, particularly a cat that has been “murdered” ? (Omg, did you just confess to a crime?) 12:58 Anyway, why is the sazerac rye (at 18 years), not a special part of the BTAC collection like weller and gts? Handy and ER17 may not be all that unique in terms of experience of either old bourbon or high proof 6-7 yr rye (unique is not same as “interesting”- one has mainly just age, the other just proof). I’ve had a few oler ryes, some 17-25 yrs old. Each is pretty unique, not like other experiences available. Idk if theres any other rye on the market presently thats close to the experience of the 2012 and 2015 Saz 18 ryes that ive had. I guess the current saz 18 might just be less unique, but the closest comparators are usu. 10- 13 yr old (or canadian).
After he talked about the tingling feeling he said “now I’ll tell you how it tastes”. I think he was just attributing the tingling to the feeling of drinking it, not the flavor
I had the choice between a 2020 GTS and 2020 Van Winkle Lot B and I foolishly took the Lot B. As good as it is, the GTS was definitely the better choice

That is the whole reason I started this channel. Thank you for the kind words. I hope your journey is fruitful
Man I dream of getting just a pour of this! Sounds amazing! And BTW Fred I love the background included in these tastings, thanks! Cheers!
I love watching your videos. The history lesson behind each bottle really intrigues me!

I'll buy it from you for $750 cash, and will pick it up in person.

Where did yall find that? I'm in ATL and always looking for a new hunting spot!
GTS is my all time favorite. With any luck I'll be able to snag a bottle this year.
this review made my mouth water . I loved last years GTS, it was my favorite pour. now this one sounds even more amazing. cheers thanks for the review
With every WOW the price doubles!
I tasted it once a few years ago. Been coveting it ever since. It's SO expensive on the secondary market in NY.
Cheapest I’ve ever seen it go for in NY has been 799
So happy to see this review. Just made a trade for a gts 23 today. Now I can't wait to Crack it
Love this review Fred! I was lucky to win a bottle in the latest VA ABC lottery system
GREAT video! Your reviews are the best.
Will you release a video ranking the 2023 BTAC's?
TYIA!
Could cardamom be akin to a green/wet grass hay with a minty turn. That's such a dominant note in my bottle
Go Pokes!!!
Fred, come to an OSU Wind Ensemble concert in the future and we'll go for drinks after! I'm fortunate to be one of the music graduate assistants.
I'm so curious about the difference between Geo. Stagg vs Stagg (Jr)
Great review. I agree that 22 is better than 23 GTS! 22 has more robust flavor and complexity.
What is better, this years GTS or the KoK?
Go Pokes!!!! Love the history lessons you give! Keep it going and thank you for sharing your knowledge!
how is it compared to last years release?
Thank you for the history and knowledge sharing. You’re like Alton Brown of the bourbon world. 😬
Refreshed and saw this lol. 40s after post
that is impressive
I see you, Mr. Minnick, with your OSU hat - you guys have been looking good the last three games! I know you have Cincy coming up, but I'm already looking forward to Bedlam!
Oh yeah - great review and video BTW!
I have a chance to get one Saturday morning I’ll be in line Friday night . At a krogers nevertheless lol 75 bucks!!!
Got one at Costco today for $99. First one ever!
wow . which state are you in?

Almost hazmat always makes me tingle😂

Where u at?
Love your hat!
GOSH ... seeing you taste this GTS and how you enjoy it makes me jealous. I'm a fan man.
It just from impossible to worse finding GTS 2023. Thanks Fred. 😂
I found one for $1,200🤣
@@PF-hm9uz what a deal 😂
Sounds spectacular! 😋👍
What true bourbon lover wouldn't want the history lesson?

@@FredMinnick Well I for one will take the history and thank you for it .

Gts always very good. Too bad about the wlw. I have a line on that one this year. Might not pursue it now. Cheers
I'll take the WLW 😂
GTS is one of those special bourbons that is almost always great.
Which batch number was this? 23A?
2023 BTAC George T Stagg review, not Stagg "Jr".
Better than last years?
Nice review! Just scored 3 bottles today! Now my sons and I have a nice bottle on the bar top tonight! Cheers! Also grabbed a T H Handy and others from a great haul!
Woot! Stagg for the win!!! UGH someday i'll be within a few country miles of a BTAC

Lime and brown sugar makes a tamarind substitute

@4:58 Clean up on aisle 5
Based on his reaction, this is a pretty good Bourbon.
This or WLW this year?

I think right now what’s popular is high proof stuff, and higher aged lower proof stuff is being overlooked.
I love how he tries to attribute the “tingling” to the flavor and not the fact it’s 135proof
I’d imagine he knows the difference since he, ya know, does this for a living.
After he talked about the tingling feeling he said “now I’ll tell you how it tastes”. I think he was just attributing the tingling to the feeling of drinking it, not the flavor

Better than 2016?
Go Pokes!
Derby Pie in a glass? MF, want that.
I hate how much I love George T Stagg. It’s quite simply the best bourbon.
👍😊👍
You need to do a blind test test vs less limited bourbons to make your review more believable. A lot of the experience is mental otherwise

My #1 Unicorn 🦄… I have low hopes of ever tasting it! 😢
