    Bro, i feel you on the touch screen, and you don’t have to battle the glare when finding the touch buttons either

    THANKS a lot for sharing your experience with this radio. Your review of it is far better than other videos who really don't say much.

    I would've expected it to have a full dot-matrix display. The character segment display makes it look like something from the late 1990s, at least until you get close enough to see that it has HD Radio, Bluetooth, and USB.

      I don't know why they ditched full dot matrix displays. I have an older model Pioneer DEH-X8700BS that has dot matrix, and PS RDS, SiriusXM, and BT. But later models ditched it. Only guess it costs.

      that's what I'm going for.... something that looks from the late 90s ..... hence no one will want to steal it

    In one of Techmoan's recent videos, he reviewed some shoulder speakers, and some of them (namely the JVC) has Qualcomm aptX, and he talks about it better than I can. It's essentially a high-bandwidth (not certain), low-latency protocol, which makes it very good for watching videos with bluetooth audio, without any latency between the correlation of events on screen with sound.

    Thanx for the good review. I'm with you on the whole buttons vs touchscreen argument (I wish I could convince Crutchfield to add a "no touchscreen" filter to their search). I'm looking for a new radio for my '07 Saturn and was 90% sold on this radio. I pulled the trigger today.

    You're lucky, most newer cars have integrated car radios that also include stuff like Air Conditioning, thus almost impossible to replace.

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They sell aftermarket boxes so you can keep and use factory settings and stuff on aftermarket stereos.

    I am with you on touch screen in cars they really don't belong in the name of safety anything like HVAC etc touchscreen is not safe

    This was very helpful. I'm looking to upgrade my HU in my old truck and touchscreens are way too expensive! Plus I like the simplicity of this!

  • @s8wc3
    @s8wc3 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool, wish I could change the HU in my mitsubishi but changing the stock radio causes everything else to shit itself. The stock radio works flawlessly and the sound quality is great but being a 2006 it lacks bluetooth and an aux jack, though there are provisions for both substantial internal modifications would need to be done to get them to work especially to a modern standard, which hell I might just do.

    I was thinking of this radio for my 2008 Hyundai Entourage minivan. concerns were buying the right adapter harness that would retain use of steering wheel volume control and rear seat entertainment DVD player connection to sound system. , BTW thank for quick answer. nice video..

    I recently updated the system firmware and my Bluetooth connection constantly keeps dropping, any idea where to find the stock firmware for the system?

    Hey buddy! I am just upgrading a new double din kenwood in to my 2014 forester as well.. Could you tell me which surround you used to make the until flush with the facia?
    Was this an aftermarket part? Many thanks

    • @lmull3
      @lmull3  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a surround that got bundled with it when I bought the unit in Crutchfield. Check with them and see if they have it still.

    Does this support Spena/Spectrum Visualizer? The previous model did visa lower segment dot matrix display. However it's predecessor had a dim display.

    I have the KMM-BT518HD that I use as a home system. I like using the kenwood app on Android because I can get the RDS when HD takes over but either doesn't transmit info or doesn't lock. I assume this works the same?

  • @KSLTech4
    @KSLTech4 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good upgrade, although the display quality on that radio looks awful. The JVC KW-XR810 in my family's Nissan Xterra (even with its own flaws), has a much better display resolution (albeit still being a black on backlight dot-matrix LCD). I too share your opinions regarding touchscreen displays in vehicles; I find it to be an over-computerization of an area that does not necessarily need to be computerized. My favourite radio design in newer vehicles would have to be the stock Nissan radios with the color LCD display (but not a touchscreen); crisp graphics with RDS and a rear-view camera without the distraction of touchscreen based controls.

  • @XMguy
    @XMguy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Imull3 Have you tried the app remote yet? I am wanting to revert to RDS data when HD isn't strong enough or pad data isn't transmitted in HD but is in RDS. Does this model pass RDS to the app?

    In audio stuff,I prefer Clarion
    My dad's Peugeot 406 has full Clarion set in it,and it actually sounds good
    A bit too deep on the bass,but hey,better than nothing

      I would imagine their own products are a lot better than the OEM stuff made for car manufacturers.

    how well did it connect to your steering wheel controls? what brand plug and play wiring harness did you use?

    • @lmull3
      @lmull3  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't connect it to my steering wheel controls. I used whatever adapter crutchfield had.

  • @mikehernandez1511

    Why would anyone waste so much time doing a review of an old radio they are replacing. People don't care what came factory in your car, we want to see what your replacing it with and how it looks/works.

  • @rexnhogz
    @rexnhogz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Agree totally even the new Subaru radios are garbage. Get you a 4 channel amp under the seat and thats where kenwoods totally shine. And its easy to do in a subaru. The maestro is cheap for the steering wheel controls.
