    You’re one of the few TH-cam gardeners that seem to
    grow in a colder growing zone. I live in a similar climate, so I really appreciate it!

      There are a few British youtube gardeners out there that should have a similar growing zone :) Other than the wonderful Project diaries there are a few other good ones: Charles Dowding, Huw Richards, Liz Zorab ~ and I'm in the UK and made a courgette video too :)

      Wanda Wizard Yeah. Im a complete noob. I dont know anything. Coronavirus has convinced me to start a garden. I fear the supply chain on fresh produce may get disrupted.
      Went to Home Depot to get some stuff at 6am - I got to go back tomorrow for stuff I didnt know to get.

      I've been growing my own plants too due to coronavirus and having the time now I'm stuck at home. I'm pleased the way they've all come along especially as I'm a novice and it's my 1st time growing plants. I'm growing green beans, peas, new potatoes, old potatoes (in a potato grow bag), carrots, onions, peppers, cucumber & courgettes all in containers as my back is slabbed. I've also been doing pots of green beans, peas, carrots and potatoes for both sets of parents as they are getting on and it's less hassle for them receiving them when they are almost ready and being in containers obviously makes them convenient to drop off to them. It seems that a lot more people are doing the same and I think it's a fantastic thing. I have really enjoyed growing them (which I didn't think I would as I did it to be prepared & to save money) It's actually very satisfying seeing them grow & quite therapeutic too. I'll be doing this every year from now on.

      @@ThePp12345678 Me also a novice at growing due to c/v, I found a nice company called urban sprout and the seeds are growing rapidly . They do boxes with an assortment of veg in and it seems like good quality /value , Best of luck with yours !

    We've just emptied out our compost heap after about 20 years!!!! and have the most beautiful, friable compost, and loads of it. We've just been given a free courgette plant, and I'm planning to grow it in a rubble bag filled with some of this great compost. Thanks for confirming that I won't need to feed the plant at all! I'm planning to put a cane in and try it vertically, as I've seen in other videos. Fingers crossed for a successful initiation into growing courgettes!

    My Zucchini seedlings are ready to be potted and I have saved some quite large pots for the job. Thanks for this video it was a help. I am sorry about your bad weather. We have been having a bit of rainy weather here in the US too, where i am in Michigan. Lots of rain and cloud cover. I am thankful for my sunroom. Had to get my trees planted though and I have gotten caught out in the rain doing it. I actually threw my lower back out digging holes so I am in my chair now on my ice pack. Hope to be in the garden soon though.

    Very valid remarks regarding weather - very pertinent now in 2022. The compost level had shrunk well down by the end of your film so that your plants were, in effect, in quite small pots. Was that acceptable, or were you tempted to add more compost? Perhaps under the plant?
    Thanks for such clear content.

    can you get row cover? i had to grow this entire season under row cover for the first time it was so cool at night all summer long. real weird. also used fresh grass around the plants bc it makes such hot compost and it saved all my plants having piles of grass around them and cover.

    Love your vids. I'm growing pot zucchinis for first time - think I've added too many seeds to the pot and they all are growing.
    Damn, I'd really worry if that was the colour of our rain water!

    Another very useful vid, my man. My courgettes are at the 5 week stage now and I am putting them out this week.I had a bit of slug/snail damage while they were in the small pots, but with your marvellous slug trap design, (Waitrose coffee cups (posh, eh?) and Guinness) I am confident of success. Keep on keeping on, chap.
    By the way, have you got any more of your own guitar work recorded?

      Not up to you to decided that! Fingerstyle sadly lacking these days ,sorry to say, so your skill is needed in music as well as in the garden. I am trying to make a Bass out of pallet wood, to see if low frequency vibrations will deter the voracious slugs. Works for snakes apparently: well I haven't got snakes here in Stamford, so maybe it does work.

    These are same as Summer squash? I sowed them in a 1 x 1 feet growbag thinking I can transplant them and only 3 germinated luckily. Should I transplant them to 1 per growbag or leave them as such? Would they survive a transplantation?

    Thanks for sharing. I have planted some courgette in this manner and put them on the windowsill. After sprouting it grew leaves in one day. The next day it closed its leaves. It's stem doubled in size in one day as well. Should I worry about the leaves closing during the day?

    I have some large containers im using to make homemade compost in so food scraps, leaves and cardboard are in there but not very broken down yet as only been a few weeks. Could you top these up with compost and grow courgettes in them or would this not be good?

    • @InkByt3
      @InkByt3 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Obviously your season has probably finished, but maybe you could use this for next season - yes! I do believe that that would be advisable, the half broken down material would continue releasing nutrients over the growing period, you should be able to get some nice courgettes!

  • @H2Dwoat
    @H2Dwoat 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, my courgettes are still in the conservatory, I have repotted them a couple of times and they are flowering. I am going to repot them again this coming week before moving them outside. I noticed you only filled the container about 3/4 full, is there any particular reason? I haven't fed them yet but as I have repotted them with fresh potting soil I figured they would have enough nutrients. This is my first year growing anything so I was really surprised at how quickly they established them selves but I went overboard and am now trying to find good homes for some of them with family. What do you recommend for food, I was just going to feed them with tomatoes good?

    • @ProjectDiaries
      @ProjectDiaries  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well done. Try not to transplant them too many times. I leave a lip from the soil for balance and it also allows the water to stay in the pot. I never usually fill any final pot to the top. Yes! Feed them like Tomatoes as they start to flower. They don't need much but like a boost. Could you share some photos on my gardening group? facebook.com/groups/projectdiariesHQ/

    Hi, winter here in New Zealand and I am experimenting with growing courgettes by wrapping the pots in bubble wrap. I perhaps should have started the seeds off in summer, but at least they all germinated. Guess I am going to find out if it is the soil temp alone that determines season or the leaves also need higher temps.

    • @ProjectDiaries
      @ProjectDiaries  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The whole plant needs warmth and sunlight in order to grow well. Bubble wrap is also made from a toxic plastic and can leach into your soil and plant

    • @kazzana9013
      @kazzana9013 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, just been watching news on single use plastics and decided I am part of the problem. Until we have environmentally sound products made from materials like Cannabis Hemp, I will do my best to avoid plastics in future.

    • @ProjectDiaries

      Try looking for Polylactic acid (PLA) Plastics. The only issue with these is that they need to be listed under the RIC code (7) which is also the same number so many harmful plastcis
