Addison's Disease and Corticosteroids (Part 1)

  • Corticosteroids are essential molecules in our body that regulate body functions such as blood pressure and energy production. Too little of these molecules will obviously lead to negative consequences, but what are they and why do they occur? Join me in this episode of Medicurio where we will discuss Addison's Disease.
    Cool websites to check out on Addison's disease:
    The Canadian Addison Society: www.addisonsociety.ca/
    National Adrenal Diseases Foundation: www.nadf.us/
    Note: This video mainly talks about primary hypocortisolism, which is a direct decrease in cortisol. Another cause of Addison's disease is secondary hypocortisolism, which is due to a dysfunctional anterior pituitary that does not produce enough ACTH. With less ACTH, the adrenal glands are not stimulated to produce cortisol. The same symptoms will occur except for hyperpigmentation. Treatment for secondary hypocortisolism is the same as primary hypocortisolism - replenish the corticosteroids.

    I thank God for the NHS service in Britain,I have addisons and pituitary tumour, my team are amazing.A lot of people here sound very scared,and yes it is scary,but if we learn as much as we can about it,the stronger we and those around us are.I believe knowledge is strength, I felt a bit hypochondriac at first,really concerned about what people thought,but now I dont give a bloody damn.Without boring the arse off people,I am evangelical about it.If u dont want to know,dont bloody ask me why I have so many bracelets,on.I have Addisons,A pituitary adenoma,(tumour on pituitary),diabetes,kidney disease, fibromyalgia,and osteoporosis, I am 66yrs old,I am a carer for my 90yrold parents, look after 2 boisterous grandchildren,sing in a choir,and next year celebrate 30 years as a fitness teacher.Just an ordinary woman, with extraordinary health challenges.I am determined not to be defined by these challenges,I want to live to see my great grandchildren ,so I kick ass every day,including my own.Be brave,be strong,we all get scared,there are arms here to catch you, if you feel you are falling,here for you all ,should you need it,love and strength, Teresa Thompson xxxx

    A previous dog I adopted had this disease it was triggered due to the animal shelter over vaccinating him causing auto immune disease which damaged his adrenal glands and he got very sick and the shelter and vets refused to help him in time as the valued money and profiteering more than animal lives and he suffered and died.

    Hi. Ive taken asmanex hfa (mometasone furoate, 200 mcg per actuation) for 3 days, and quit because of side effects. Its been a week now since i quit and i still having dizziness, anxiety, depression. I dont know if its cycled off yet or just its withdrawing effects. What would you suggest? Thanks

    • @Medicurio
      @Medicurio  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am not familiar with this drug so I am hesitant to give you any recommendations other than to speak with your doctor about your side effects and discomfort. If you are using this to prevent asthma attacks, please talk to your doctor immediately about possible alternatives because the longer you stay off the drug, the higher the risk you may have of developing an asthma attack.

    • @bahtyar
      @bahtyar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Medicurio , i dont have an astma, i had lung inflammation and i was prescriped this inhaler, was just wondering when it cycles off

    • @Medicurio
      @Medicurio  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry, I'm not sure when your medication will cycle off. Once again, my best suggestion is to contact your doctor as soon as possible about your symptoms and discuss possible causes and alternative drugs, since I am concerned in case your lung inflammation worsens.

    Any Cure of this disease Or Any Operation To remove it Completely please please answer me. Is there any operation To remove it completly Or any Medicine To Remove This Disease 🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁😓😓☹☹

    • @Medicurio
      @Medicurio  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unfortunately, there is no cure yet to remove the disease completely, but there are definitely medications that allow people with this disease to live relatively normal lives. Oral corticosteroids such as cortisone and hydrocortisone are usually the go-to treatment method. Perhaps one day we will be able to transplant or regrow adrenal glands?
