My favourite part of this whole bit is that Luke had no idea how the song was used. He was just warned to have a song prepared and this is how it turned out
I'm waiting for the day that Dob fulfils his destiny as a true bard, and cheeses the entire epic Lilliana bossfight by attempting to seduce her and rolling a nat20.
That's not gonna happen even if he tries and gets a 20. I don't think Johnny is the kind of DM to go "oh you got a nat 20? They immediately fall in love with you"
I want him to play this again in their last fight with Liliana and prove himself the one true bard.

I once saw a Tumblr post on Katie's perspective.
Basically, she was (and is) full-on planning on killing him and taking the inheritance. He meant absolutely nothing to her, he was just something to be thrown away after he has outlived his use. She never ever loved him for one single second.
But... Knowing he never loved her _either,_ caused her more pain than anything she ever experienced.
I mean it's the principle of the thing, she was planning on killing him and absconding with the gold, but how dare he use her a rebound

I like to imagine Jane stayed in character the whole time. just picturing the dead silent audience with prudence just jamming out in the background is fantastic 👌
What really makes this for me, the cherry on top of the bow is Corazon going "Okay, I'm going to start making my way towards the door..." before the song is even finished. He is not sticking around to find out, and I respect it.

it is, however, still my favorite part of this song...
I absolutely loved this moment and I'm so glad they did it live. I love how Luke and Johnny have expanded on what was initially a joke about Dob trying to seduce the antagonist as bards as stereotypically expected to do and then it blossomed into this genuinely very sweet and funny dimension to Dob's character, and how that culminates in him pouring out his heart in this way!
The blank look of mental trauma on Johnny's face kills me every time I rewatch this. Thank you so much for making this incredibly replayable video.

I know we know that Johnny warned Luke that he was going to want to polish up that song for this adventure before they asked them to sing something on a live convention stage but do we know how much of the Dob and Katie Pearlhead plotline Luke and Johnny discussed between each other outside of the game outside of that? Starting with "Who's idea was it that when Dob returned to the party he and Katie Pearlhead would be engaged?"

I mean, yeah. They knew the wedding was coming up and Johnny asked Luke if he would write a song that Dob would write from the heart. I have no doubt the wedding was scripted to wrong, but I don't think this was the way Johnny expected.

That this moment truly was not scripted and just happened to work out perfectly makes it even more hilarious and great.
As I understand it, Luke was given a headsup beforehand to write a song "from Dob's heart", though he wasn't told why and none of the others knew about it. So it's not completely improvised, but the context and reactions are.
@@awmperry exactly this. You can see the panic on his face when he's given the context for those instructions. It works, because Dob should also be panicking in that circumstance
There was collusion, and preparation. The new lute is Luke's. Because the other one was too heavy to always carry around. I'm catching up now and had to rewatch this. But I caught all the idle champions interviews.
But I'm sure the rest of the crew didn't know what was going to happen. And Johnny didn't know what the song was going to be.

Based on the podcast, Andy says that Johnny told Luke to prepare a song, but there is little mentioned on what Luke was told to expect, and how much Luke told Johnny what the song would be about.
