That's a mighty professional looking form/base/rebar setup. Looks like something you'd expect to see on a construction site where a licensed contractor is working. You guys really know what you're doing, and that's going to make the finished building a terrific product.
For your time lapse images, I'd suggest picking one or two places around the site and building a semi-permanent mount of some kind. Maybe stick a post in the ground, or attach something to a roof, to allow you to pop the camera into the exact same place, pointing the exact same direction, to get daily photos of the build and create a time-lapse of the whole build.
My company did that a few years ago when they built our new offices; they mounted a webcam on a neighboring building so we could look at a time-lapse any time we wanted throughout the whole build. The finished time-lapse was really cool to watch.
I think with all your build experience, you might also consider whipping up some outfeed rollers for your table saw, to help when you're cutting large pieces. There are lots of TH-cam vids with great designs for portable, adjustable outfeed rollers, and they can usually be made in an hour or two with scrap materials that you already have on hand. They'd really come in handy, especially when you need to cut eight-foot sheets of plywood, which you know you'll be doing a lot as the build progresses.

I hope you know this. The rebar has to be lifted up off the ground. It has to be in the slab, not below it. Chances are , the crew pouring the slab will know and take care of that.

you hope they know it but usually they try and pull it up after the fact because they hate walking in the raised rebar. typical it a 2" clearance also rebar is flexural strength.....

There is Tiny Shiny Home (TSH) YT channel too and they know MLH and they are building with hyperadobe bags that are different from earth bags, They get filled with dirt like earth bags but there is no need for barbed wire between the courses of bags and the bags are UV resistant so the sun doesn't destroy them as fast. I just thought you'd like to know about another way to build with dirt. I don't know where you are but the Arizona desert makes this a good way to build.

If you are concerned about the cinderblock wall you could place a couple pieces of rebar in some of the voids and then fill with cement. I wouldn't think you need to fill all of them just a couple.

  • @darthceoloc8350

At the start of the video I was concerned because the anchor stakes were on the wrong side, but later I see they were fixed. Good use of the wood anchor extensions where the old foundation is.
You will want to raise the rebar off the gravel by a couple inches to get the strength from it. They sell concrete squares for that.

all the rebar I've ever watched being installed is up on a spacer at each joint, so where ever the rebar crosses the other rebar there should be a little spacer so as to elevate the rebar into the middle of whatever concrete you pore. That leaves a little space between the dirt and the rebar which would be about 1/2 way in the middle of the concrete. I know i'm about as clear as mud but I hope you get the idea before the cement trucks get there. I love your projects

Piece o advice! Place the rebar off the ground by a few centimeters, like in the half of what the thickness of the slab would be( all the rebar) that would give the best tensile strenght! Also another piece of advice, before you poor the concrete mix, damp all the foundation area in water( i know that in that part of the world water is scares, but the water will act like a fluidisation agent that will make all the sand/dirt and gravel settle and be more compact!
I would have suggested to dig up trenches at the perimiters, and 2 in the middle of the slab to act as foundations ( as you previously made for the 2 sheds) i am mentioning this because concrete in time even if you poor it on a clean slab of another already settled concrete slab or foundation, in time they will split apart because they will not have the full adesion as a slab poured all at once! I am mentioning this bescause in the past 20 years i've been working in the construction area, and also in our country houses are made from the bottom up with concrete and bricks!

@@gheaflorin you are basically right, but ... you gotta give them a thumbs up for trying, and also... frate noi ca si popor/cultura am invatat sa folosim alte materiale de constructie fata de ei datorita conditiilor de utilizare( in principal clima) plus ca peste "lac" nu o sa vezi o casa construita ca in RO, cu fundatie adanca, egalizare, pereti caramida/bca, stalpi de rezistenta, centuri placa etc, 1 ar fi foarte scump la ei, si 2 in zona centrala poate o casa de genu ar ramane in picioare si doar cu acoperisul luat de vre.o tornada, dar.... in sistemul lor este mai ieftin sa reconstruiesti peste lespedea de beton care o numesc ei fundatie decat sa reconsolidezi o casa ca a noastra care sigur ar avea structura afectata dupa un eveniment de al lor!

If you want to save that broken block wall, without relaying it, I'd stab some rebar into like every third hole, block cell, and fill the cells with grout. Cut your bar so it comes within a couple of inches from the top, some may end up shorter if the bar is obstructed from going clear to the bottom. Keep your bar all next to the hole it goes in if you end up with different lengths. For grout you should be able to use ready mix, Quick-krete or something where the aggregate (rocks) aren't too big. Poor each cell, then put in rebar, shaking and plunging to make sure cell fills. Keep your grout kind of wet - not soup, but thick gravey. You may check for level and plumb of the wall first and if you think it needs fudged a little put a few shims in the crack first. On the other cells without bar, you could either just pour them full too or wad some paper to plug the holes and push it in tight a ways below the crack and fill those to 8" or 10" above the crack or fill it to the top. If you have extra cut off short scraps of bar, throw them out here across crack. You don't need to worry about the holes between rebar for structural, 95% of the strength in a block wall comes from rebar and grout, I just added the second part of these instructions to fix the crack to stop light and/or water. When you're all done, I'd stucco or at least paint it with heavy block filler primer to make the crack disappear.

also could surface bond it the whole face...works with dry stack, don’t see how having mortar will hurt it. Do use mesh or hw cloth in the surface coat...

@@killcrazyvegan Yea, that would probably hold it, you could probably even phony stone it to look cool if it' just to be a free wall. I'd still stab at least the corners with some bar, and fill em with grout, especially if any of it is going to be structural - I'd put all the overkill on it I could while I was already there working on it if any of it is structural.

If the wall is center block and it hasn’t been filled with concrete yet to strengthen it you can fill the holes with concrete and revar so it doesn’t level and won’t come down as easy again

Looks lovely guys, I haven’t watched in a while as I broke up with my partner for 9 years and all the ladies getting married triggered me. So took me a while to come back. This is awesome as it was just fun and peaceful.

They are going to build the walls with earth bags and they do really well when they are stacked in a rounded wall rather than a square wall. I think they'll put the bags right along the edges of the concrete slab they are going to have poured. I'm not sure where they are going to put entrances. I'll be fun to watch it get built.

A little off topic, but I wanted to ask. A few years back, before the aquaponics project, there was talk about a possible walipini (partial underground greenhouse). Spring is coming soon, is this still an idea? I'd love to see your take on a project like that.

So do you not need a footing along the perimeter? In Oklahoma we have to have 18” minimum footing because that’s the frost depth.

    • @Tomcatt817
      @Tomcatt817 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Depends on how they build the walls. If it is earth bags, then based on paste performance, my guess is a trench around the outer rim of the foundation at least that deep. Only a guess.
