    Dancing Rabbit is an ecovillage and intentional community of about 70 people set amid the hills and prairies of rural northeastern Missouri. Our goal is to live ecologically sustainable and socially rewarding lives, and to share the skills and ideas behind that lifestyle.
    In addition to being a wonderful home for us, DR is a model for social change. Outreach and education are integral to our mission. Rather than isolating ourselves completely from the mainstream, we promote DR as a viable alternative. We enjoy sharing discoveries and ideas of sustainable living with people who have a wide variety of lifestyles.

    This is absolutely fantastic--what I've been looking for since I was a little girl! I seriously got choked up while reading about this ecovillage. I've always wanted to live this way, and have felt so frustrated, sad, and powerless at trying to do so by myself while surrounded by modern American society. I will have to schedule a visit, for sure! I seriously cannot describe my excitement!

    Oh my gosh!!! Everything you say is what I've been visioning to live. This is it!! I'm so glad such community is already existing!! This community will definetely be a great example of the lifestyle we all should be living in the very close future. Thank you so much for sharing this and hope you will keep influencing people for future generations. I'm a girl who's from Tokyo and caught up with the lifestyle always crowded and busy and chasing money everyday and not really seeing life in a bigger picture. It's sad. A lot of younger generations started to realise this is not going to last too long. What we need is love and care. The community support, and sustainable life connecting with mother Earth. Caring planet, people, animals. That's what I'm seeking for my life. You guys brighten the future. Thank you so much!

      Dancing Rabbit's land includes 280 acres, and just a small portion of that is occupied by human housing and buildings. Thanks for your curiosity and you can learn more at: www.dancingrabbit.org/about-dancing-rabbit-ecovillage/

      It's probably a bit more than that at DR. They have a similar visitor program at Twin Oaks, but it is not so much for making money as it is for providing free labor to the community. This is especially true for garden work, which is really labor intensive. Without the visitor program at Twin Oaks (and also at Eastwind in Missouri), the garden and other aspects of the ag program would hardly function at all. They REALLY DO want you to visit. Your labor is important to them. A $700 fee, however, seems pretty outrageous. What do you actually get for that money? And it should be said that $700 can be a big expense for the types of people who are attracted to this lifestyle: basically those who have no interest in a career of any kind. Accounting, engineering, teaching, owning your own business, being a professional musician .. you can pretty much forget any of that if you choose to live in a commune.

      Of course. The only limitation is that members are not allowed to own personal vehicles. We have a co-op with a fleet of vehicles that people can use for short-range trips, or to get to the airport/train station.

    • @drecovillage
      @drecovillage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Travis, we do have tiny homes on our land. For the time being at least, there are no county or other building codes that restrict what we can do when it comes to building, but we do have a variety of internal community agreements that are designed to ensure that new construction in our village is both ecologically sound and safe to occupy.
