I'm in salon and working on speed. My clients love my work, but I get no breaks because of my time. Record yourself and play it back...you will watch in horror at how slowly you go through motions and see what the problems are. In the moment, I felt fast, but that replay had me lecturing myself through the screen.😂
I gave up for the longest time but I'm sure many ppl who succeed gave up at some point & got back to it eventually. I think these talks are good for ppl to hear because it's just real. Sometimes u have to give up to get that spark back & actually want to do nails rather than just feeling crushed & not wanting to do it at all but once again everyone is different too.
I work with gel, became qualified earlier this year and take approx 3.5-5 hours (incl removal, prep, application and art) I’ve had times when I wanted to cry at how long I’m taking
Just got my practice hand yesterday, and you’re absolutely right about the hand being more difficult! Side note: the hands are super realistic but also super floppy but I can’t wait to finally start doing nails on real clients! Thank you guys so much for your advice ❤
The practice hands… I don’t know how many times I’ve had people ask what I’m doing to that “thing” (my silicone hand) when they come through the door. I am always learning something new! If it’s not something on the hands, it’s something on the silicon feet. (Yes, I have a pair of those too! Very realistic and creepy looking 🤣) Or something on a mannequin head. We don’t keep our skills sharp or master technique if we don’t practice.
I’m have license for long time because of my situation I’m to work deferent job I’m just start to practice on nail I’m like to do nail I’m was to busy working never get time I’m just retired I’m going to practice that my gold for the new year thank you guys for motivation
I’m a licensed nail tech, 5 months of nail school, and graduated now I’m at the point where I’m looking at salons, and I still need practice with clean up (polish on skin) and polishing 👌🏻 and yes in manicuring school it was tedious and boring, but your practicing getting it down, muscle memory, but this was spot on 👌🏻 and yes the fake hands are creepy & harder to work on, yes a real hand is much better/easier 👌🏻
I practice minimum 10 hours a day. Probably my biggest practice error I keep making over and over again is drifting back and forth between gel, poly gel and acrylic. 2nd error is trying to learn how to do the fun art things…. I need to stick with one product line, basics until I perfect it. Then when I move on to a different medium, I need to add that medium without dropping the one I finally perfected.
Is there a specific video for discussing the width, and length in shaping where being sure that all the nails are consistent in look... any tips are appreciated. ❤
We don't have a specific video, but we can give some tips. When measuring length, keep the middle three nails around the same length and then make the thumb and pinkie balanced. Generally, the pinkie will be a little shorter and the thumb will be a little longer. When measuring, measure from the cuticle to the end of the nail, looking from the front of the finger. Do not look from the back of the nail and measure from the hyponycyium to the end. Every nail bed is a different length, so if you are only measuring the extended free edge, it may not be the same length when looking at the whole nail. As for width, you do have to work with the width of the nail, but can pinch a c-curve. If you have a wider nail, you can pinch a slight c-curve, but you may not be able to pinch it super tight without causing discomfort or tightness to the nail bed.
What would you recommend for finding time to practice & when a pro nail tech continually growing your knowledge and learning when you have young children? I’m looking to go in to this industry and I’m so passionate at making this a success. But I worry I won’t be there enough for my 2 1/2 year old. It’s for our future it’s just so difficult to try and find that balance. I’m in the UK x
It can definitely be challenging to go to school, practice and continue your education, but you will just need to find the balance that works for you. Here in the US, we have a lot of schools that will offer a part time/evening program for people who need more flexibility. You may try finding schools, or once working, a salon, that will allow you to be there part time, at least to start as you are growing your clientele. That's really a great thing about this career, you can make it work for what is best for you!
I’m in a salon where I’m not allowed to practice. It’s unprofessional according to the owners. I literally can’t at home. My husband is allergic to the monomer. It’s so frustrating because they won’t even let me do acrylic.
You can always practice on yourself or family, friends or strangers. Let them know it's a one time thing or however many times you want so they don't expect free services all the time. if working on strangers, we suggest people who are seen by the many people on a daily basis like bank tellers, bartenders or hair stylists. Those people can then recommend you when people ask about their nails.
Is it true that most clients are gonna want to get more basic nails with just 1 or 2 more fancy designs? That’s what I’m hearing but not so much what I’m watching on the tubes or grams…
It's hard to say because the types of nails that are popular or trending are going to change based on location, age and even timing. I would take stock of what you are seeing often on social media and if you want to learn it then do so. So that design on yourself or a model and post on your socials so your current and future clients know that that is something you know how to do. Also, keep track of colors or designs your clients are asking for often. If you don't know how to do them yet, let them know it's something you can work on (only if you want to) and maybe you can do it next time.
While trends can dictate what nail designs people are going to request, I feel like it also depends where you live. A place like California might be full of clients that want bling, bright colors and complex nail art while a place like Alabama might be full of clients who like more modest designs. The overall nail designs im seeing in Croatia, where I live, are very simple because most people arent that influenced by trends. It can also depend on the clients age. Younger generations are more prone to exploring trends.
Love these videos! Learnt so much. But being new in the industry I agree with everything you say, learn the basics first but you come across quite condescending 😒 ❤

Stay with it. My first set was 2.5 years ago. Took 6 hrs. Now, I do full sets in 1.5 hrs

This is awesome. I have Sally read to take to the salon. Now I won't feel embarrassed.🥰
I needed this video today. So perfect.

My practise Hands Name ist Olga … Olga Never scream, Olga Never blead 😂
How long should it take to do a removal of acrylic set and do a new set?
It would depend on how thick the acrylic set is and the speed of the e-file. Everyone is going to be different.
Need this one

I wanna go to your owc soo badly. 😊😢😅❤.
I have the opposite problem. I can create lovely work on the Prac hand. Not on the client 😢
I practice using dummy hand, but I am tired of using that. I need to practice on real hands but I don’t know how to get clients 🤔

You can’t stay in the same place … you won’t grow and soon enough your clients will be bored
Great advice!! Always room for improvement!! Great topic and information 👏 👍
